This accommodation is actually based in Pescia, not Pistoia as per a previous review. We stayed in “The Lodge” and although we knew that the place was going to be basic, we didn't realise that it was going to be THIS basic!
The farm is located up a windy “hairpin” bend road, and then after that is the hair-raising slope down to the place where you leave your car. From here it is a 10 minute walk up a steep rough track to the farm itself. If the owner is around they have a motorised cart to carry your luggage to the top which is invaluable.
The farm itself is rather messy and untidy, still looks like a building site from when they renovated 5 years ago. This hap dash-ness also applies to the accommodation though, and although the lodge was clean, it also had a few unwelcome visitors, like ants in the shower tray, a huge slug and a snail over the course of the week.
The kitchen area had most of the basics, but obvious things like washing up liquid, a washing up brush/cloth, salt and even olive oil to cook with were missing, which considering they produce their own oil for sale on eBay was a bit off. We even had to take out own rubbish down to the bins at the bottom of the road (about 2 miles away).
The bed (which was an Ikea double bed bunk bed) was comfortable and with good pillows, but other details like blinds being too small for the windows or broken could have been easily rectified and contributed to the overall feeling of cheapness and lack of attention to detail. The bathroom was clean but you had to plan your showers for 20 min intervals to wait for the hot water to heat up.
This self catering accommodation is based on a working farm. The farm can sometimes be noisy and there are a few friendly animals around such as the dogs, cats, chickens, etc. All of which often roam freely around the grounds. This also goes for the owners three small children who would often have play sword fights on our decking when we were trying to relax!
