“A Must See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Many of the artifacts found at Paestum are in the Museum across the street. Be sure to go to the second level in order to get a good look at the friezes.

“Worth the trip!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

The museum contains a wonderful collection of ancient painting not found anywhere else. These include the so-called scenes on the panels forming the sarcophagus known as The Tomb of the Diver and a plethora of similar painted sarcophagi panels of slightly later date. The magnificent vase painted by Asteas has unfortunately been related to a side wall and is easily overlooked. The bronze and single ceramic vessel found in the "shrine" in the sanctuary are on view, all lined up in a row exhibited with two samples of the honey which they contained. The metopes from the temple erected alongside the nearby Sele River illustrate a wonderful assortment of Classical myths, but the lack of labels renders many incomprehensible to the average tourist.

“Better than the Naples Archaeological museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Lovely modern building, showing none of the decay we notes elsewhere. Not a lot of English, but enough to piece together the displays. The famous diver and his entire frescoes sarcophagus are here. The other panels are interesting for the slice of life of young men. Some of the various styles of pottery are fabulous in the intricacies of the figures drawn on them, as well as the different styles of the kraters, kylixes, amphorae, lekythos etc. themselves. Bronze artifacts as well. Nice museum shop, but should have looked in stores for better souvenir selection.
