Owner description: Pozzo della Cava is more than just a well... ...it's one of the highlights of a historical and archaeological tour of Orvieto...it's a place where the past and the present combine with respect for twenty-seven centuries of tradition...it's an invitation to discover Etruscans, Middle Ages and Renaissance, because Orvieto is not only the Cathedral...it's a fascinating underground itinerary located in the heart of Orvieto, through caves full of recently discovered archaeological finds...it's an unusual way of discovering the history the city known as Urbs Vetus and the customs of its people...it's an original opportunity to retake possession of a disinterred heritage

“Informative and Well-Displayed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

If you're in Orvieto for a day or two, this cave is worth a visit. The artifacts were artfully displayed and well-explained in English. We didn't make it to the other big well in Orvieto so I don't know how it compares, but it was closer to where we were staying and open into the evening when most other places were closed.

“Beautifully presented”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This is a privately owned cave system and is so well laid out. We appreciated all the notations and explanations in English, which is unusual in this area.
We did not try to restaurant, but it certainly looked very nice.

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Blink and you would miss this little gem costing 3 euros. Refurbished by the owners at their cost this attraction, with English translations, shows pre Roman wells, pottery, kilns and caves. After tour you can have a espresso and a local wine for the amazing cost of only 2.40 euro for both, on the lovely roof terrace. A rare find.

“Cool history overview, although a little strange”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

At 3e, this is worth it because you get to see a little of the caves beneath Orvieto, as well as signs detailing the lifestyle of the Etruscans, especially their potterymaking skills. The wells themselves were alright, but the strangest thing were the pseudo-lifelike mannequins used to illustrate the lifestyle.
