What a beautiful town to visit. Great shopping, Magnificent views and wonderful Renaissance art. Taking the fanicular (cliff cable railway) was also quite an experience up the hillside. Enjoyed this town emensly.

“Awesome place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

The city of Orvieto was a great stop on our way to Bucine. Orvieto is visually stunning from the first moment it comes into view and we couldn’t wait to explore. It is an enchanting city that sits astride a volcanic rock above fields streaked with vines, olive and cypress trees. As soon as you enter the town you can feel the history that hangs over the cobbled lanes, medieval piazzas and churches. We did not stay overnight, only spent an afternoon exploring. We had no real plan and just wandered the maze of tiny streets filled with staircases and doorways that led us deeper into city and to great little shops and cafes. The locals here were so kind and helpful and love their city a lot so are happy to share bits of its history with you. We climbed the Torre Del Moro which gave us great overview of the city before we started exploring.

“Great Easy Day Trip From Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

Orvieto is an easy 90 minute train ride from Rome and well worth the effort. The Romanesque Gothic Duomo and Capella di San Brizio is the headline attraction but there are many more interesting historic sites to visit and explore. I'd advise that you obtain a map from the Information Office on the main square as your first stop. This map has an extensive list of "Monuments & Tourist Resources" that are most helpful to identify which sites you might want to visit. The location of each site, opening & closing times and prices of admission are detailed. Allow yourself plenty of time to stroll along the narrow streets to optimize a day away from the hustle & bustle of Rome.
