“Umbrian medieval Masterpiece!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Orvieto lies between Rome and Florence, a magical city in Umbria whose origins date back to the Etruscan civilization, over 2,000 years ago, before the Romans. The historical center sits on top of a hill surrounded by a wall still standing, and the view of the Umbrian Hills is breathtaking. There are tunnels and caves you can explore, the world famous Orvieto Classico white wine you can drink, and of course the churches you will marvel at, some dating back to the BC era. The most spectacular of these is the magnificent Cathedral Duomo, a Gothic masterpiece that takes your breath away for it's magnificent architecture and massive size. Walk everywhere on medieval cobblestone streets, eat fabulous food on every corner, shop at beautiful stores, and wonder at how easily the modern world meets the archaic. It's worth every moment spent here. enjoy!

“Avis car rental Orvieto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

What a fantastic experience hiring our car from Maddelena from Avis car rental accross the train station at Orvieto. She made our day, paperwork was easy and service fantastic. Upon our return to handback the car the whole process took 10 minutes and we were ln our way. Madelena was a bright star adding to our wonderful italian experience, we can highly recommend the avis car rental at Orvieto.

“Beautiful city to wander in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

Loved all the cobblestone alleyways, mideval walls, vistas.
It's a city built on a high hill, at the very top! I accessed it on a feniculare.
I spent 4-5 hours walking, taking lots of pictures. Great city to spend a day.

“Beautiful Orvieto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

We were in Italy for 2 weeks with a bus pilgrimage tour and stayed behind a few days on our own before going home. Orvieto was quick and easy to acess by train from Rome, and a great place to experience the centuries old type of Italian town with all the quaint, pretty little lanes and shops. The Duomo has great art and history and is amazing to see when the sun hits the mosaics and the carved, curly marble columns on the front side - it simply shines! We had great food at all the places we ate at, but we chose the RS guidebook ones, so we knew they would be. The owners were friendly and we had fun chatting with them. One of them was the Enoteca al Duomo across from the side of the Duomo. We asked to eat outside for lunch even though nobody else was, and within 10 minutes nearly all the tables were full. We bought a bottle of beer about the size of a wine bottle which had an english description of it being "meditation" beer. It was pretty good and I could see that imbibing much would induce "meditation". We stayed at the B&B Gardibaldi and it was perfectly located, really clean and best bed I had in Italy. And quiet! It was great that David picked us up from the train. His english is quite good. I really liked the location towards the "back" of Orvieto which made it seem much more local than tourist but only about 5 minutes walking to the Duomo. Orvieto is a lot easier to walk around as it is not steep like towns such as Assissi are. The B&B was also really convenient for us to do the rampart walk. We did it near sunset and it was spectacular. The views of the valley below were amazing and is one of our favorite memories of Italy.
