“Warm and welcoming proprietors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Misia is a beautiful property located 10 mins or less drive from Orvieto town. It is situated in a quaint village on top of a hill with a huge rock as a backdrop. If you're an avid photographer, the park on top of the rock provides a breathtaking view of Orvieto town. Perfect for afternoon landscapes shots.

Misia is not your run of the mill property where you are holed in a room in one big building. Nope. It is instead a collection of village houses that were beautifully converted into hotel suites by it's remarkable owner Giorgio. Our suite (village house) in particular which is situated right in front of the main building has a sweeping view of the valley below. Brushing you teeth while enjoying the view - priceless!

We have stayed in many places, big and small. And for me the mark of a great stay is the warmth and genuine welcome you get from the proprietor/owner and that is what we got from Giorgio and Alexandra. Upon arrival, they served us yummy spritzers which were definitely welcomed after a long afternoon drive. We had a nice leisurely chat during which they got us a dinner reservation in town, made tonnes of recommendations on where to go and what to do to make our visit memorable.

If you are visiting Orvieto, this place is where you should stay. You won't be disappointed.

Additional info:
* You'll need a car to get here.
* Misia is the name of the owner's grandmother. I think it is a lovely way to honour her.
* Dine at the La Rocca restaurant nearby. It is pricier than your average fare but the food will not let you down. It is slightly formal and a bit on the quiet side which is perfect for a romantic date. But if you're after a more lively dinner affair then maybe try something in town.
* Try to do a wine tour. We had a private tour of Decugnano dei Barbi and that was awesome.
* Do an underground tour of Orvieto. There is more to Orvieto than meets the eye.

Room Tip: Suite 8 is very beautiful.

We had to escape from a previous place where we stayed, and found Misia on the day we arrived. It is outside of Orvieto, so need a car. Very nice rooms, modern, very well done. Pictures represent the rooms accurately, although perhaps rooms a little smaller than I expected. Easy 10 minute drive to Orvieto parking lot where you can take a lift up to the town. The resort may be a grand name as the property is actually a small boutique hotel, but a few rooms had little very nicely done decks, and generally pleasant, very nicely decorated and modern.

Something seems to have got lost in translation here. This is not a resort but a group of old village houses which have been beautifully renovated with fabulous views to the Umbrian hills. Run by a charming, helpful family, we understand they have plans to build a spa and restaurant eventually. Meanwhile there was an an outstanding agriturissmo restaurant 1km away and lovely Orvieto is a 6km drive from here.

Room Tip: We had a large spacious room at top of house. Beware lots of stairs.

We think this hotel is the perfect way to experience Orvieto. We wanted relaxation and quiet after a hot day touring and found this hidden gem close by. Giorgio is amazing...visionary architect and decorator who imagined and created this resort. Rooms are elegant with the best linen sheets, air conditioning, Sky TV. Baths have good showers and thick towels and robes. The bar is relaxing and inviting--and a restaurant is in the planning stages. Breakfast is good and served in a lovely room. Magical.

Room Tip: We would like room 8, an amazing suite, next time.

My wife and I planned to stay around Orvieto for the bulk of our trip. When finding Misia through trip advisor we were very excited to get to this part of our trip. We book for 5 nights but ended up staying an extra night because we loved it so much. The resort is gorgeous. Each room has a comforting contemporary feel to it. Our room had lots of room and light plus a organic yet modern bathroom. We spent hours relaxing in our room between our adventures in the area. The staff at this hotel was very friendly and helpful with any issues or questions we had. there is a great look up a small walk behind the resort. When we stayed at the resort we thought we were the only people there due to how quite it was. The breakfast was average and could have used some more attention to freshness. this was one of the highlights of our trip and we will be back one day. If not soon I know some family members who we are urging to travel to Orvieto and stay at Misia.

Misia Resort is a very modern feel. They have renovated an old property into the 21st century. However, the Resort and Spa is not in yet finished, which we were disappointed with. The hosts are sweet and kind...and there is definitely a trendy vibe.

I think this is more suitable for couples or adults traveling without children.

My husband and I spent 1 night here and we wished we would have stayed longer. The resort is in an old family property that was entirely re-done with high-end finishes and decorated with an incredible vision which makes all rooms of the property luxurious and cozy. It's the perfect mix of modern and antique: beautiful. The resort is owned by a young and extremely inspiring couple. Our room was spacious and filled of delicate attentions. The free breakfast in the morning is perfect. There is free parking literally 30 seconds away - very convenient. We were delighted by this hidden gem - thanks again!!
