Based on reviews here in Tripadvisor, we booked an afternoon tour of Decugnano de Barbi.
It was an intimate tour with just me, my husband and another couple friend of ours. The drive to Decugnano is beautiful. Although there are no clear signposts, it was relatively easy to find.
On arrival we were greeted by Anna Rita and we were immediately taken to a spot with a great vantage point of Orvieto. From there she gave us a brief history of the town and a background on Orvieto winemaking etc etc. The wine tour was relaxed and knowledgeable. We didn't feel like we are being herded from one spot to the next.
The whole experience kicked up a gear when wine tasting started because they truly have great wines. A wine tour with bad wine is pointless. A wine tour with good wine and a huge antipasto spread is totally fantastic. That is what you get a Decugnano de Barbi. You are not getting a measly bread with olive oil or nuts to go with your wine but a carefully selected assortment of meats, olives, cheeses, bread to pair with the sparkling, red and white wine on offer.
If I have regrets, I wish I didn't have a big lunch before the tour coz the antipasto is really more than enough and I wish we bought more wines to take home. They are reasonably priced and much better than what you'll get at your local wineshop.
If you are still looking for a place to stay in Orvieto, stay at Misia. You will not regret it.
