“A wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

My mother and I had such a relaxing 3 days at Antica Olivaia. We highly recommend it! With the wonderful food and amazing service we have already started talking about coming back! They even took us to see local cheese being made because it was one of our interests! What a peaceful and delicious place to be!

We wanted 3 days to adjust to time change before starting a tour with early rising and full day schedule. Antica Olivaia was a relaxing nest while surrounded by many interesting destinations within easy 1 hour drives. Daniella and Macro were the perfect hostess and host. Our friends who were staying at another B&B joined us for dinner prepared by Marco and Daniella. The food was delicious and the conversation with old friends and our host was even more enjoyable. Our room was just perfect- facing the rising sun with a view over stunning landscape. We were there a few days before Easter as they prepared for a several guest. I saw wild boar and deer on short walks on local farm roads. We used their's recommendation for local sites and eateries; we were very satisfied at every place and treated as special guest. We hope to see more of Umbria and the Adriatic side of Italy. Antica Olivaia is less than 2 hours from Rome airport. We will use Orvieto's Antica Olivaia as our "welcome to Italy" rest and relaxation retreat in a restored farm villa with two special people doing something that they really love to do and share with their guest.

My wife just enjoyed three delightful days at this B&B. The owners, Daniela and Marco went out of their way to make our stay most memorable.
We had our evening meal twice while we were there. Marco is a great chef and prepared fantastic meals. Daniela provided excellent directions to local attractions. Both are proficient in English. This place is a real gem.

We'd heard great things about Antica Olivaia, but our recent experience there was even better than we expected. Daniella and Marco were the perfect hosts and their restored farmhouse is beautiful in every respect -- clearly a labor of love on their part. What was particularly nice were the personal touches that Daniella and Marco provided -- wonderful meals (including wild boar -- a special request), and lots of helpful information for places to go -- including some that were off the beaten path but worth every minute we spent there. Perhaps the most satisfying thing of all was the zeal and energy Daniella and Marco put into it. They obviously love what they're doing and it adds a great deal to what was already an outstanding experience.

Room Tip: There's no bad room there!

We are a family of 5 and we staid in Antica Olivaia for 2 nights. All of our family enjoyed very much the hospitality of Marco and Daniela. It is not only their warm welcome and very nice place, but their attitide to help us to make our visit better. We enjoyed our dinner together that we watched and helped to prepare with a lessons about italian food in the country. They guided us to visit nice places in Umbria and in Orvieto. We recommend their hospitality with all our hearts.

The many positive reviews of Antica Olivaia are right-on. This is a very special place to experience another side of Italian life, with great hospitality, a charming farm house, unbelievable views and terrific food. The experience is "just like home" - you're welcome in the kitchen, dining is a family affair and conversation about Italy, with advice from Daniela and food tips from Marco, make your time spent in this beautiful section of Italy even more worthwhile. Except for those who want 5 star resort amentities or to be in the middle of the action, Antica Olivaia should please every visitor. As previous reviews indicate, this house is off the beaten path, with the closest neighbors a long distance away. Getting there on back roads, with hairpin turns, may be intimidating. We preferred to make the drive back and forth in the daylight only and to spend the evenings at the inn - Marco's cooking was, of course, an added incentive. Read on - this review is short only because other TA reviewers have described Antica Olivaia so well.

My husband and I stayed at Antica Olivaia for 3 days back in September 2013. ( It's taken me a long time to catch up on my reviews for our Italy trip.) You can not find more gracious hosts than Daniela and Marco. They are eager to help with anything that can make your stay a memorable one. Whether offering second or thirds on morning coffee or evening wine, helping plan a full day itinerary around Umbria, or suggesting a deli for where to find excellent wild boar sausage - (an Umbrian specialty), they are at your service. But, the highlight of the stay are the evening meals. No matter what you do, stay for one of Marco's meals. For us American's, the meals do start late, but they are well worth it! Most, if not all of the food is local. We had 2 dinners with them (and I think all the guests staying there did the same). I can't recall the exact price, but I believe it was around $35 (US) a person. Well worth it! It was fun to sit out in the open air patio with 10 other guests, drink wine, and talk about your travels. Most, if not all the food is local. In fact, when we were checking in, the "Boar Man" from "down the way", arrived with the wild boar for the evenings meal. It was in the back of his truck in the cooler! The wine is from a neighbor. Marco even went out of his way, to visit a neighboring cheese maker to purchase me some cheese to take home, as I had remarked on how much I liked the cheese he served during the prior evening meal. On the day we arrived, in mid-September, the weather was still warm enough for a swim in their beautiful pool. The next few days were a little too cool as the wonderful fall weather began to set in. The rooms are simple, but warm and welcoming, and plenty big, with enough storage for luggage, clothes, and purchases!!! The property is a bit out of the way and can be a somewhat difficult drive if you are not used to driving an automatic. The drive is a little steep and has some tight turns. Just make sure you get the kind of car that you are used to driving and you'll be fine. This has nothing to do with the property, just a tip for those driving. Another tip, plan a visit to Civita De Bagnoregio, while you stay here. Its about a 1 hour drive from what I remember, but it was the highlight of our entire 9 day Italy vacation! Daniela and Marco can give you directions!
