I almost don't want to write this review for selfish reasons. But Palazzo Seneca deserves 10 stars. To begin, I should clarify my perspective. I own Culture Discovery Vacations, a cooking vacation company that operates in Italy. We used to come to Norcia on some of our day trips, and one day we found ourselves talking with one of the owners of this hotel. He showed me the place, and I was taken back by the beauty and the energy of the owners. They invited me to come back in the winter of 2011 to discuss the possibility of basing some of our cooking vacations here. I took them up on the offer, and found myself staying here in February, 2011. I was absolutely thrilled with the attention to detail, the beauty of the hotel, and the absolutely amazing staff they had assembled. As such, we went forward and developed an itinerary with this hotel as our base.
We hosted our first group here in June 2011, our second group in June 2012, and I write this from my room in Palazzo Seneca with our third group here right now. So far, we have had 40 of our guests stay here, and they have all been absolutely thrilled with this place to the extent that I believe I speak for all of them... and so much, that we have booked a block of rooms for five weeks here for our groups next year!
So why do I feel so strongly? Because they "get it". And when I say "THEY", I mean the entire staff. From the owners, to the front desk staff, to the night staff, to the waiters, to the girls cleaning the rooms. Every person here operates as though they are family. They are friendly, attentive, professional, and warm. You don't have the feeling that you are in a hotel. You get the feeling that you are part of their world, in their fold. It is amazing, but very difficult to describe in words. It is something unique and truly special.
That is the service, but the hotel... BREATHTAKING. CHARMING. STUNNING. It is small, but not too small. The rooms, while all different, are absolutely beautiful with every little touch treated to perfection. The public areas are lovely, charming, personal, and feel like home. It all makes you feel truly special.
All wonderful, but the true test of any company is how problems are dealt with. Naturally problems can happen anywhere, but how a company reacts to them is where true quality is measured. And in my casse, I have had enough of my guests here that I have had the opportunity to experience a few problems. Last week we had a major heatwave happen suddenly, and there were some air conditioning problems with a few of the rooms. As the representative for my group, I was the conduit between my own guests and the hotel. When I brought up the problem, they jumped. They had techs there right away to fix it, and when the techs didn't completely fix the problem, the owners of the hotel were on the phone immediately and got the techs back here to fix it late one night. They jumped, fixed the problem, and were more professional than I ever would have expected. It was a fantastic experience to see how much they cared.
The Food. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant called Vespasia, and they also own the "Granaro del Monte" restaurant across the street. Both are absolutely amazing. Fantastic food that is just off the charts, amazing staff, incredible service. I cannot think of a bad thing to say.
In short, if you come to Norcia (AND YOU SHOULD!), this is a 1st class place to stay. I cannot imagine that anyone could have a negative word about anything here.
As an ancient palazzo, each room is unique. The balcony rooms are truly wonderful, and there is not...
