We stayed for a full week in Agriturismo Ardene in May this year for our 10th year anniversary. We were a little apprehensive at first, because the communications during the reservation period with Benedetta, the property manager, was not easy. However, we wanted to stay in a strategic location in Tuscany, in the wine region, with easy access to all the key cities/areas. We also wanted an authentic Tuscan farm, with natural beauty, privacy, and nicely appointed. Agriturismo met all of our criteria. It is just outside the walls of Montepulciano, while you can't easily walk to Montepulciano, it is literally less than a 5 minutes drive. It is pretty much 1 to 1-1/2 hour from most of the cities/towns we wanted to visit, including Sienna, Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Cortona, Arrezzo, etc. It is also within driving distance to Florence, but we didn't go since we had recently been there. While the location is great, we had trouble finding it, the directions on the website, or from Benedetta, are less than perfect. We got lost and took us almost an hour from Montepulciano to find it, when it was literally less than 5 minutes away. The unit we were at LE MILLE E UNA NOTTE, is simply beautiful, with a lovely porch in the front, and gorgeous outlook of the valley and Montepulciano through the bedroom windows. The unit was furnished beautifully and tastefully. The only criticism I had of the unit was that the kitchen was not well appointed. There were no good knives or pots/pans to cook with. However, when I asked Benedetta for a knife, she did provide me with a couple of good ones. The breakfast was a little boring, pretty much the same every morning, some rolls, cheese, and fried eggs. There's always fruit, but nothing too exciting. They did have cherries from the farm a couple of mornings, and they were yummy and sweet. The staff are all very helpful and kind, but ZERO English. We didn't really have any problems (we speak no Italian), but I imagine if you want to have your host/hostess/staff to help you to make local arrangements for dinners, directions to sights, you may be disappointed. I would definitely consider going back to Ardene if I were to return to the region for another trip.
We recommend LE MILLE E UNA NOTTE, which has great vista from the back, or any of the rooms that hav...
