“All the character and charm of Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Through a guidebook recommendation, my wife and I contacted Gio, who was kind and helpful in directing us from our home in Pisa (US Gov't employees) to a parking lot at the edge of town. There, Gio picked us up and our luggage and took us to the Meuble. Gio helped us settle into the Riccio Suite and provided us with helpful information on Montepulciano's best restaurants and wine tasting areas. Gio even helped us with reservations.
The hotel itself is steeped in history, several centuries old and restored to its former glory. We stayed in the Riccio Suite, easily the finest room in the house. The comfort, views and amenities are all spectacular. With a bottle of local wine and some bread, there really is no need to leave this room as the balcony offers a wonderful view of Tuscany and an interior loft sitting area (accessible via spiral staircase) offers additional charm. However, I do encourage all to take the short strolls from the Meuble into Montepulciano. This room is more expensive than the others but worth every cent. Exiting this room takes you directly to the breakfast area. Breakfast is European style but easily satisfies an American appetite.
A 1-minute stroll through a historical district from the Meuble took us to Montepulciano's Piazza Grande and the center of this city. The hotel location is as good as it gets in this area.
The only recommendation for improvement that I could find was that the television did not work well. This is by no means a negative; looking out the balcony is far more entertaining than any show on television.
This is among the finest hotels in Tuscany.

Room Tip: The Riccio suite is worth the extra cost!

"Welcome to our home" is the way Gio introduced us to this beautiful palazzo that has been in his family for generations. The hotel is situated near a central plaza at the top of a very steep and winding road. (We admit to getting lost and having Gio come find our car and lead us up to our little parking space). The rooms are comfortable and unique and the hospitality is fabulous. We awoke on May Day at 7am to the sounds of a marching band that wound its way through the streets, waking up the town for the annual town celebration and marketplace. It was a treat to wander along behind them as they wove through all the winding lanes. Don't miss the Talosa wine shop/Etruscan tomb and make sure you dine at La Briciola.

Ivana and Gio are wonderful people, they both make you feel warm and very welcome...my husband and I enjoyed our stay, loved the home baked cakes made ny Ivana for breakfast and the smiley face cappuccino...I will definitely come back here to stay when I come here again.

Great location right off Piazza Grande. Everyone we encountered, especially the owner Joe, was friendly and welcoming. Beautiful terrace with a view of Montepulciano, perfect for drinking wine and taking some pictures. We did not choose to have the breakfast for an extra 8 Euros/person, which we regretted once we saw the spread! Rooms/bathrooms had enough space and were private and quiet. Rates were very reasonable. Loved our visit and our stay, can't wait to return!

Last year we stayed with Gio and Ivana, who took great care of me during a bout with the flu. I was so humbled by their caring that we had to go back and see them during our most recent trip. It was like coming home to family. Their B&B is charming, comfortable and welcoming. Ivana makes the most delicious breakfast and cappuccinos with a smile. We brought a small gift of a hedgehog (or Riccio) statue; I will never forget the look of joy on Ivana's face. We know we can always come back and visit and feel so welcomed. This is a great property, well run with an incredible location and Ivana's pastry. If you're going to stay in Montepulciano. don't stay anywhere else. If our travels take us back to Italy again, we will certainly stop to see our friends!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the valley...the views are incredible.

We could not have been happier with Meuble Il Riccio. The view from our room was incredible, and the town was wonderful, the staff friendly and inviting. I could not recommend the "Superior" room more highly!!!, highlight of our trip so far, it will be hard to beat!

I strongly recommend Meuble Il Riccio in Montepulciano, owned and operated by the Carota family. Signor "Gio" Carota is a jovial, gregarious gentleman; his wife la Signora Caroti is the embodiment of quiet graciousness and natural refinement. Together they manage this gorgeous small hotel with efficiency and skill. The hotel is perfectly located. Although the hotel lacks a restaurant for lunch and dinner, there are many places to eat within a short walking distance.
