“Memories in Montepulciano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

When planning our stay in Italy we knew we were going to spend at least 5 days in Tuscany. After making a list of the hill towns that we wanted to visit, reading countless reviews, and watching some Rick Steves, we made the right choice and booked 5 days at iL Riccio.
The hospitality was the best. The rustic charm and most amazing views from the roof top patio were memories we will keep for a lifetime.

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

If you read nothing else in this review, just know that you'd be making a huge mistake not staying here...First of all, Montepulciano and the surrounding area are amazing. I'm hesitant to even write this review because I don't want a million people to ruin this perfect town and hotel. When we arrived at the hotel, which was originally built in 1218 and has been immaculately restored, my wife and I were in awe. When Gio said, "Welcome to my home" as we walked in the door, my wife was almost choking up because she was so taken aback with it all. I was about to cry as well because I began to think I missed an extra zero in the price. The breakfasts were great, especially the cappuccini. The view from our balcony was unbelievable and hearing the cacophony of churchbells ring through the windows throughout the day was very cool. I would not change a thing about this hotel. The price, the location, the hosts, the food, views, the history, and the room were absolutely perfect. Off all the places we stayed on our trip throughout Switzerland and Italy, this was our favorite.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony, it's worth it.

“A Gem in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

A great place to stay with good breakfast, convenient car park, comfortable rooms, wonderful roof top terrace and GREAT HOST! The freshly made muffins and tarts in the morning are worth getting up for. It is a family run hotel with great service. You can not find a better hotel in Montepulciano.

“Will definitely be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

All the wonderful reviews are true, this place has old world charm and is located right next to Piazza Grande. Why would you stay anywhere else?

My husband and I were on our honeymoon and made several stops throughout Italy. Montepulciano as a town, and il Riccio were our absolute favorites from the trip and we are already talking about when we can go back. We did not rent a car since we stayed 4 nights and found a driver for 2 days when we wanted to travel out of the town to wineries in Montepulcian and Florence. The only con is the expensive taxi ride from the Chiusi train station (40-50 euros), it is cheaper from Montepulciano train station if you're going in that direction (~25 euros).

Gio and Ivanna greeted us and even gave us some leftovers of breakfast (she makes all the tarts herself and they are DELICIOUS) and coffee since we had been traveling since early in the morning and hadn't eaten. They are so helpful and made us dinner reservations everynight and directions (make reservations to all the restaurants early, they fill up fast!!)

We stayed in the Superior Room on the 1st floor with GORGEOUS views over the valley. It is definitely worth it to get a room with a view here, it is absolutely breathtaking. I read that rooms on the 1st floor are renovated, I can't speak for the upstairs rooms but ours was definitely updated very recently. It was spacious and clean, with a fairly large sized bathroom for European standards. There is also wifi in every room. We had originally wanted a balcony, but they weren't available (and we booked months in advance), but lucikly the hotel has a rooftop with tables that were lovely to sit at and drink wine and eat cheese, while getting to meet some of the other hotel guests. While we loved walking around the town and visiting wineries, we really enjoyed just sitting in our room overlooking the views or drinking wine on the roof. It was such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay.

Definitely recommend staying here, its a relaxing and charming place that's worth all of the good reviews it's gotten.

Room Tip: Superior room with a view of the valley or balcony if you're splurging

“Room 34, AMAZING view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We recently stayed at Meuble il Riccio for our honeymoon. Simona, one of the owners, was amazingly helpful and kind throughout our stay. When we were shown to our room, we were amazed at the view. They have under 10 rooms in the entire property, but you are close to many of the restaurants and attractions Montepulciano has to offer.

Driving around the town can be tough, but they offer you a parking permit a couple hundred feet away from the hotel. Try to pack light if you drive in, wheeling your luggage down cobblestone streets is tough!
