On a rainy, cold night in Montepulciano, there we were at about 6:45 p.m. -- shops closed up for the day and restaurants not yet open to serve dinner. Thank goodness, we found Sax, Wine, Bar well-lit and pleasantly open. We ordered aperitivos off the menu (wine and bruschetta) and the owner suprised us with her full assortment of vegetarian bruschettas and cheese -- my goodness, the taste of the mushrooms, the tomatoes, the herbs, the cheeses were all simply delicious. We then tried the ribollita (local Tuscan soup) and the white truffle pasta -- both were superb. The food was among the best we'd had in our four days in Tuscany, yet this restaurant had not been written up in our guide book. I don't know why. Their food and hospitality on that cold, rainy night really warmed our hearts and our spirits. Thank you for a wonderful meal and for some very enjoyable conversation.
