“Villa Poggiano - Extraordinary!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2010

My wife and I are frequent travelers to Tuscany. We have had the privilege of staying in many beautiful hotels and villas. None however have been more beautiful or rejuvenating than our recent stay at Villa Poggiano. From the moment of our arrival we knew this was going to be an extraordinary experience. Stefania and her staff have perfected the art of hosting guests at the Villa. She had seen to my request for flowers in our suite (absolutely beautiful) and, of course, a bottle of Vino Nobile di Monetpulciano! One feels as though they are staying in the family's private palazzo. The Villa has been lovingly and masterfully restored and the results are nothing short of magnificent. The suites are sumptuous, the bathrooms large and luxurious, the gathering areas are plush and welcoming, the grounds are beautiful and the views are nothing short of stunning. The breakfast room is elegant and one can enjoy a wonderful breakfast while listening to Andrea Bocelli or Alessandro Safina. Stefania was always eager to make suggestions for dining, shopping or touring. She was even enthusiastic about helping me with my struggling Italian. That alone should qualify her for sainthood! Our stay here was extremely rewarding and we will be repeat guests at Villa Poggiano! Brava and grazie mille to our new friend, Stefania!! Cheri and Tom

My wife and I wanted a Tuscan countryside setting, but all the services of a high quality hotel and reasonable access to shopping, dining, etc. Villa Poggiano was perfect. Stefania was extremely helpful; she set up private tours, suggested a few itineraries, and made all of our dinner reservations. The room was spotless and spacious. If I have any criticism, it's that there is no WiFi in the rooms...but that is understandable given the thickness of the walls in the estate. We loved our stay and would definitely go back.

We stayed in a "junior suite" for two nights in mid-October. We were surprised at how close the complex is to Montepulciano (literally five minutes drive), so it was easy to bounce back and forth during the day. (Parking in Montepulciano was plentiful and free.)

The Villa is a complex of buildings. The photos on the website do not do justice to the splendor of this place! There are beautiful planters and fountains everywhere, a nice pool and clubhouse, walking trails, and stunning views in every direction. Our suite had a small sitting area in the foyer, a large bathroom, and a nice-sized bedroom with king bed and small television. If we were to return (which we'd like to), we'd splurge on a full suite.

Service was warm and personable. The included breakfast was simple but adequate, and served in a very comfortable and elegant breakfast room. Bicycles are available (complimentary) during nice weather.

Overall, I highly recommend Villa Poggiano.

My wife and I stayed three nights. Everything about this place is first class. Upon arrival, we were diven advise on places to eat by type and price range, with clear directions. The quiet of the night was a nice change of pace after a few days in Florence. It's extremely close to Multipulciano (less than 10 minutes), and not far from Pienza. Great base for touring the area, especially if your looking to sample Tuscany's Vino di Nobile Montipulciano or the Brunello's of Montalcino, or visiting Sienna or Cortona. A limited room service menu was offered, which was nice after a long day of driving/sightseeing.

We returned once again for the 3rd year in a row spending 9 nights at this fabulous Villa. It is starting to feel like a second home as we feel just so comfortable and relaxed in this wonderful place. The peace and quiet, the discreet service and attention to detail, the superb breakfasts and Stefania just keep us going back. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with a view to die for (Room 9 or 10) with a pool large enough to have exercise in if you could be bothered to get up off the loungers!
And yes we have booked for 2011!!

During our 4 weeks in Italy this year we had the pleasure to spend 4 nights at the Villa and were sorry to be leaving. The internet pictures of the Villa do not give full justice to the beauty and size of the property. The main house, where the reception is located, has three large sitting rooms available to the guests (with wi-fi access), are beautifully furnished with antiques and make you feel you are staying at a friends luxury villa. The Villa's grounds and surrounding countryside are stunning and peaceful.

We had upgraded our room to a deluxe suite from a junior suite which was well worth the 18 euro extra cost as we had our own small cottage with three spacious rooms, all spotless, nicely furnished with high quality interior architectural details such as paneled solid hardwood doors, painted frescoes on the walls and ceilings, etc. To top it off, each of the rooms had superb views over the neighboring Tuscan countryside. Details included a custom iron umbrella stand at you entry (which we fortunately did not need). A lovely breakfast room is central to all the cottages and the buffet and personal service was outstanding. The only negative on the room was no English speaking channel (that I could find) on the TV. I believe if you ask reception in advance, they can connect those few channels.

The staff were very gracious and helpful. The owner, Stephanie and her husband bought the property some years ago and completely restored and refurbished it following all the Italian rules and regulations for Historical properties. She is there daily to be sure the entire large property and grounds are always kept in impeccable condition. We heard she may offer one day a week of dining at the VIlla in the future, which would be the cat's meow for us. Although the pool looked inviting, the weather was not warm enough for us to use it. Next year!

The Villa is located just a 5 minute drive to the well known and very picturesque village of Montepulciano, where one finds lots of good restaurants and shopping. The Villa Poggiano location is extremely quiet, which makes for sound sleeping.

I am just now checking on a potential upcoming trip to Italy, and this little gem and its most gracious owner, Stefania, always makes us feel welcome. On our last visit in May 2009, I tried to find a place on Trip Advisor to comment, so now it appears possible. First, Montepulciano is a great location. The town affords great views and architecture, ample good restaurants, and quick trips to Le Crete and places like Monticchiello, San Quirico di Orcia, and Pienza. Stefania gave us directions for a secret little drive through the countryside enroute to Asciano, and was always happy to make reservations as places like La Grotta. But the real story here is the villa itself. Nowhere is there a more elegant home with all the right touches in the rooms and public spaces. Last spring a new breakfast room had been added with a courtyard for outdoor seating as well. Each morning, there were different items on the breakfast buffet (itself a work of art, with custom cabinetry) such as little egg salad sandwiches, cheeses, and the best onion marmelade found in the Basilicata region. How do I know this -- Stefania is always there to tell you. Its her place, and her story that she created with her mother along with their apartments in Montorio closer to town. And the best thing of all? Its the pool. Dramatic in its travertine marble, the pool sits in one section of the garden grounds, surrounded by towering cypress trees. Secret niches are scattered throughout the lovely grounds. Villa Poggiano is a destination in itself, situation in a wonderful part of Tuscany -- easy from Rome and Florence, at the doorstep of Umbria, and some of the most glorious country on all of Italy. I told Stefania on this visit we would always come back, and I feel I have never really left this place.
