“Best of the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2015

We stumbled across the website for this boutique, seven room hotel in Montepulciano, Italy a few years ago. Since then, we have visited several times, referred countless people to visit and already planned three visits June/July 2015. The rooms are hospital clean, the location convenient and the breakfast out of this world. But the best part by far is the Banini family who own and run the hotel. Niccolo, Amerigo and Vanna have become our Italian family! They are so amazingly sweet and hospitable, you feel as though they are related. Niccolo is willing to do anything you request, from restaurant, winery and places to visit. In addition, he helped me arrange a surprise wedding vow renewal surprise for my wife and me in September 2013. His help and participation were invaluable for one of the most memorable and wonderful experiences of our lives. We cannot say enough about these wonderful people. Our trip this summer is with a couple who have never been to Italy, a group of 14 friends and a few days to ourselves. We cannot wait.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique. Ask Niccolo what he recommends. We try to stay in the room on the right side...

We spent three nights here in September, using Montepulciano as our base for a driving tour through Tuscany. Received a friendly welcome from Amerigo the owner, who offered us a glass of prosecco in the hotel’s lovely little garden. He also gave us lots of dining and sightseeing recommendations, which we appreciated.

I don’t want to be too critical of the Il Rondo but it wasn’t really to our taste. In hindsight, it probably wasn’t a good selection for the types of travellers we are. Amerigo and his family are omnipresent, to the point that you feel a bit like you’re being watched the whole time. Some people may like this close attention but it didn’t really suit us. There were a lot of rules, e.g. no food in your room, you must sit at your designated table at breakfast. It was all done in a friendly way but was just a bit too much.

The hotel is well-maintained, in a fairly good position by Montepulciano standards. It’s right on the fringe of town but the distances are all short – you can walk to the old town in about 20 minutes.

If you’re comfortable with a small hotel that is not far from being a B&B, then the Il Rondo could be a good choice for you. If you like your space, it might not be.

What a welcome we received after our long trek from Pienza! We were shown to our beautiful suite and brought a tray of steaming coffees! The rooms were just perfect and the sumptuous 'salon' linking our two rooms provided a touch of luxury, as well as convenience.Niccolò and his wife were charming and the breakfast buffet was delightful, especially the home made cakes! The location was perfect for exploring Montepulciano on foot. I would love to return to this hotel.

We selected this hotel as it seemed easy to get to by car outside the walls, but within walking distance of the old town, and this proved to be the case. While it's a slight uphill walk to the park just outside the city walls, it's a lot less than what's required to properly explore Montepulciano on foot. The road to the hotel passes by non-residential properties that aren't particularly attractive, but this is of no great importance since the accommodation is within a garden setting that creates its own relaxing oasis.

We had a spacious downstairs room that included a walk-in wardrobe - rather nice to have our suitcases out of the way for a change. The room also had a sitting area shared with one other adjacent room. The rooms are personally and perhaps even eclectically decorated, but our room was comfortable and well-equipped.

On arrival, we were given a friendly and helpful greeting, breakfast was easy with good options, and checkout was straightforward. The hotel delivers particularly good value for money. We'd certainly recommend staying at Albergo Il Rondo.

My adult daughter and I stayed at Albergo Il Rondo for 4 nights. It is about a 20 minute walk to the main piazza in the centro storico. We enjoyed walking to a different restaurant each night. Our room was clean and spacious. There is a garden area where you can sit outside and relax. Upon arrival we were offered prosecco or a glass of wine. When we checked out, we were given a bottle of Rosso di Montepulciano to take with us. The owners could not have been more helpful. They made dinner reservations for us, and gave us information on bus schedules and maps. The buffet breakfast was very good with lots of hot and cold selections. Our stay could not have been better.

Our only regret is that we only had 2 days to stay here. The couple that owns Albergo Il Rondo were extremely gracious and helpful. It's a charming little villa with lovely gardens to relax in. The breakfast is typical Italian and atmosphere very friendly. Our room and bathroom was clean, we had a double room and it was nicer than I expected. The walk up into Montepulciano takes about 10 minutes and it is all uphill, which I had read from other reviews, so we were prepared for it. The location is a great base to explore the lovely Tuscan Hill towns in the area. In the evening, it is very convenient to be in a Villa like hotel, but able to walk into Montepulciano and avoid night driving around Tuscany. Having said that, there is parking at the bottom of the entrance to Montepulciano if one wanted to drive up the hill rather than walk.
