“Wow! Luxury hotel in an amazing location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2015

What an amazing hotel! The room was very luxurious. We chose the room with the steam bath . . . a GREAT choice!
The breakfast was very good and there was plenty of food. The staff was very kind and helpful. Do take into consideration the you'll have to go up a flight of stairs, so be prepared to carry your luggage.
Montepulciano is a great place to visit. The parking is a bit tricky since it's just outside of the city, so pay attention to the directions you're given by the hotel over those from your GPS. There are some great places to visit in town and a ton just outside too. The parking area is a quick walk from the hotel if you do want to drive anywhere out of the city.
A day trip to Montalcino is a great idea.

Room Tip: Loved the room with the steam bath though from the looks of it, they're all great!

We stayed at the Albany Suite for two nights and we loved it very much. The view from the balcony (and the bedroom) is breathtaking and it has to be seen to be fully appreciated. It is far better than any photos.

The bathroom is huge and the disco down lights in the jacuzzi area are a nice addition. We all liked them, but my 9 year old son loved them so much that we had them on all the time.

Both the living room and the bedroom are large and beautifully decorated. The living room has frescos in the ceiling.

Breakfast is served in a beautiful lobby.

Parking is outside of the old city walls and it’s free. When you first arrive, I recommend parking in the hotel designated area outside the city walls (drive there as per their instructions), leaving the large luggage in the boot and then walking to the hotel to check in. It is much easier than trying to find the hotel while driving. When we checked in, we got a permit to drive through the old city and a map, and we drove to the hotel with no problem. On the way back to the car find and remember the position of the parking spots that are located on the street prior to reaching the hotel. Then, when driving with your luggage to the hotel you see that they are free, park there and take the luggage up the street. All streets are one way only, so if you pass the hotel and the short term parking spots are occupied, you will have to do another round around the town.

The minibar is free.

One thing we didn’t like was that the cleaning staff threw away our favourite plastic water bottles, which were drying to be used for the next refill. The same happened to the 50 ml bottle of their body milk which we hardly used and wanted to keep. It’s not a big deal, but the water bottles traveled to many hotels and no other cleaner thought them to be rubbish. Regarding the body milk, our experience is that an extra bottle is added without throwing away an almost full but open bottle.

We came across this beautiful walled town when doing our research and just had to visit. Palazzo Carletti was right in the heart of town and in a beautiful old building. Melania made our booking easy and promptly responded to emails. Once we arrived we were greeted by Melania and given details of the town of where to eat, drink and do some wines tasting.
The tables were laid out beautifully for breakfast and there was plenty of food
Palazzo Carletti has nice spacious rooms.

When we booked we had no idea that the Bravo festival was to be held for the 3 days we were staying. The parades were magical the race with the wine barrels looked exhausting and this turned out to be a once in a life time moment

Location, location, location! There may be a couple minor details that almost made me give this beautiful hotel a 4 out of 5 but location trumps all. A true Palazzo right in the center of the most stunning town in Tuscany. We changed our itinerary 2 weeks before our trip and added a night in Tuscany (we were based out of Siena the other nights) and this turned out to be the highlight of the trip. First, the very minor flaws; our personal icemaker never worked and that was the only source of ice. Which is pretty scarce in Italy anywhere so no big deal. The breakfast was probably the lowest on the scale of all that we had on our trip but it was in a magical room in a Palazzo!!! The convenience of staying right in the center of town can't be underestimated. To be able to head out in any direction and within a few steps find a winery or tasting room and have a once in a lifetime experience! We especially loved all of the charming wine caves that every establishment in town seems to have. Don't miss Gattavechi at the "top" of the town. We had a charming time with Senora Gattavechi who poured us a few of her wines, let us explore the wine caves and also cut us a little board of cheeses as we chatted. She didn't speak a word of English so it was all pretty much pantomime but we believe she told us she is 88 years old! I must mention Melania at the Palazzo Carlotti. She was so sweet and charming and was very helpful.

The Palazzo is extremely well placed in the old town, with rooms that are nothing short of breath-taking. Stayed in the Lepoldo; however, all of the rooms appeared large and comfortable. Each has a sitting area, vaulted ceilings and spa like bathrooms. We also found the service superb, with Melania providing most direct interaction. Free coffee, snacks, beer and water give it a very home like feel. Many great restaurants nearby. Some common room noise, but only once breakfast being served. We would definitely stay again and would pay the extra for the Albany suite, as its view is extraordinary. You would not regret the visit.

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra cost, Albany Suite has legendary view.

We stayed at the Palazzo Carletti for 3 nights while traveling through Toscana. What a beautiful, historic hotel! Staying at the Carletti really a accentuates the entire Montepulciano experience. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by our hostess Melania and introduced to the property and our room. We choose the Deluxe Carletti which was beautiful. Extremely high ceilings with beautiful fresco's throughout. Well accommodated, comfy bed with lots of pillows, and a very nice bathroom with separate steam room. We also had a balcony overlooking the street. The complimentary well stocked mini-fridge and complimentary 15 international call minutes were really nice touches. Breakfast in the common area was also a very nice touch with many breakfast items to choose from. Melania will even make you a cappuccino if you like! And the view from that room, (and other areas of the hotel) over looking the countryside is truly stunning. This is really a fabulous place and I would not hesitate to return.
With all that being said you may wonder why I only gave this 4 stars and not 5. Well it's as close to 5 stars as you can get except for really only a couple of minor things. For such an old property it has many new high tech features, even WiFi. Unfortunately I was not able to access the WiFi from our room even though we were told that we "should be able to" or "they were working on the system". I had no trouble accessing it in the common room where we had breakfast. Also, they really need to identify the building a little better. We were told to look for the Blue and White Palazzo Carletti flag hanging out in front of the building. Unfortunately the flag had blown over the balcony (which happens very often) so we drove by it twice.
Lastly- this is a very beautiful hotel and they have done a great job with it's restoration and in keeping with the original design. So please- lose the "disco lights" in the bathroom and steam room. True you don't have to have them on but you don't need them and they distract from the beauty of the room and location.
I still would not hesitate to return or recommend this hotel. It is beautiful, the location is perfect and the staff are wonderful!

We spent five nights at the Carletti and found the room beautiful, location perfect and a great place from which to explore Tuscany. So why good not great well there were a couple of things that just took away from the experience a bit being, 1- our shower leaked and took four days to fix, 2 - the breakfast was disappointing I know it is a boutique with only five rooms but it can't be that hard to at least have a toaster somewhere, 3 - we found the bed really hard and the pillows really thin and soft.

Dear Guests,
thank you very much for your review and we are sorry that something didn't fully satisfy you .
I would like to assure you that as soon as you have reported the breaking of the topping of the shower we intervened in such a way, and it was not easy, that the piece, sent to us directly by the manufacturer, was available for repair in a few days instead of several weeks.
The breakfast, which sure is limited for reasons of size of the structure, provides different types of coffee, tea, chocolate, cakes, croissants, cereals, yogurt, local meats and cheeses, juice, etc., there would have been no problems to meet your specific requirements.
Really hope that you can come back to visit us and, as we ask all our guests, let us now their desires and if there's something not adequate to the expectations. We will try to do everything to satisfy you.
Thanks again and we look forward to your visit again. Ezio
