“Pulcino initially great but frustrating in the end”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

My wife and I visited Pulcino in October of this year. We had a fantastic meal, truffle and porcini pasta and the wine was very good. As other reviewers have stated this is a very large place however our service was very good the day we were there. There were very few guests the day we visited.

We enjoyed it so much we had wine, cheese, pasta, truffles and olive oil shipped home. We paid around $200 for shipping and expected to see the same kind of service we received in the restaurant in what we had shipped home. That was not the case. Our shipment arrived soaked in a broken bottle of wine, which ruined several bags of Pasta. On further inspection of the packaging it was easy to see why this had occurred. Extremely poor packing and it was actually amazing that additional bottles of wine weren't broken. As we've opened bottles of wine its clear that the shipment was exposed to extreme heat as each of the reserve bottles we've opened have been bad.

We've attempted to contact Pulcino to rectify the situation on several occasions but have not gotten a response in roughly 2 months since we've been home.

Moral of the story, enjoy it while you are there but forget about having anything shipped home.

“Great hospitality in Tuscany”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

First of all the path to reach your table will whet your appetite, as you'll walk through magnificient products of their farm, like marmelades, oil, wine, cheese and so on. We ordered fiorentina rinsed down with an honest montepulciano wine, but before the great piece of fiorentina meat (1,3 Kg) arrived to the table, they let us taste some cheese, salame, bread rinsed down with tuscan oil. All has been really good, and when we went out from there we were reaaly happy with the complicity of the red wine. RECCOMENDED !!!

“very nice owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

The place is large but taken care by a couple of sisters who own the restaurant. The wine is beow average for the area but the sausages were wonderful and so was the chickpeas and beans. The pasta was average but what impressed us was the way the owners welcomed us and treated us. Two thumbs up!

“Good but feels touristy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Pulcino was located close to our hotel and was a quick stop on our first night in Italy -- we wanted something nearby so we could go to sleep early due to the jet lag. The setting of the restaurant is appealing since it evokes the idea of farm-to-table, and it was featured in both of our guide books. We had flavorful pasta and pork sauage along with some good house wine, so overall the food was fine. The restaurant entrance was also nice, as they have a shop featuring their wine and other products. It was the ambiance inside that was a little lacking. The restaurant is very large inside, which gives the impression that they may cater to large tour groups. Since there were <10 other people there, it felt a little impersonal, which was not helped by the slightly disinterested, rushed service. All in all, there were no problems, but it was unremarkable. “Good but too expensive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We were in this place by chance while looking for a restaurant in the area. The place is very attractive from outside because has very fine appearance and it really looks like a farm; it has to be said also that the place is on the street, very visible also during the night (not so common in the area around) and is one of the very few places where you can go and have lunch or dinner, out of the little towns around (Chianciano, MontePulciano, ....). It has not only a reastaurant inside but also a big shop with typical touristic articles and even a museum..... The restaurant is in a very big room that has a big number of tables and it seems while seated more to stay in an office mess instead of a restaurant, the atmosphere is not really attractive. Waiters are very kind and fast but prices are huge (9 euros for a tomatoes' plate!!!!!........). They give to you a paper menu with a strange ordering system; you should write (they do not give to you a pen unless you ask for it ...) on this paper what you would like to order so that .....I suspect...... some english-speaking interaction problems could be overcome in advance. We just had two "ribollitas" (special "Tuscany" recipe for a vegetables' soup with tuscan bread) and mineral water, the price for each "ribollita" was 9 euros... ,I can say that the dish was very good but anyway in other places I had had the same for two/three euros less for each dish. They offer you a complete menu for 26 Euros (2 main dishes plus drinks) but you can choose between only 2 options for each dish. I didn't taste any wine but in conclusion I can say that this place, although the food I had was very good, seemed to me a "tourist industry" very much over the average of the area in terms of prices and more oriented to get your money instead of offering good service and fair prices.
