“Great fun at Cristallino”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2010

I stayed in this hotel for a week in August with my Mother. The hotel staff were very polite, patient, helpful and friendly. The rooms although a little dated were very clean (cleaned every day) and fresh towels were provided every day. The hotel is in a lovely setting close to a spa, a park, a market, various cafes and shops.

This is not a large modern impersonal hotel; it is a friendly small establishment with a lot to offer those wishing to experience Tuscany and its spectacular sights. The train station is within easy walking distance. There are some lovely restaurants. Montecatini Alto is worth a visit.

If you go on holiday to find something to complain about I’m sure you will find something. If you go on holiday to meet new people and soak in the local atmosphere you will really enjoy your stay. Thank you everyone for a great holiday. We will be back in the near future. I hope!

The water in the swimming pool remained murky for the whole holiday. Admittedly a front facing room was acceptable...but it was complete with plastic glasses and plastic garden chairs which, in my instance, completely gave way on the balcony surface causing real problems. They even refused to serve tap water! How any chef could produce such unappetising food is beyond belief. There was generally a total lack of caring for residents which makes one wonder why this hotel was ever given any rating! This real problem does no justice to what is a lovely town

The hotel is some what dated and appart from the public areas on the ground floor is in need of updating, The bed rooms can be divided into 3 different groupings those at the front with balconies are alright, those to the rear of the hotel with balconies overlook a small car park and the lower room look at a large wall topped with trees etc very little sun. The rooms at the side particulary room 106 & 206 face onto the entrance lane way to adjacent hotels where buses park loading and unloading passengers late at nignt and early in the morning given the nature of the guests at these hotels who seem to be young and energetic this can be a noisey affare. Neither room 206 or 207 have balconies which is in total contrase to the nice picture of the hotel shown on the web site.

In fairness to the staff they were very friendly and helpfull and the ground floor was kept clean and tidy. The hotel is within walking distance of the town centre which is very safe even a night due to the number of people moving around the area.

The hotel can be recommended provided you ensure that you are given one of the front rooms with a view of the pool otherwise you views are going to be somewhat restricted. Dont let them stick you with room 206.

We stayed at the Cristallino for a week and whilst disappointed on arrival the staff made up for some of the shortcomings of the building by being helpful and hardworking.
The public rooms had obviously been refurbished and were generally good - check out the chandeliers!!

The dinners were ok - could have been much improved by not being plated - would have preferred to serve myself with vegetables etc. Breakfasts were bland and required more choice, fresh fruit and definitely better fruit juices.

The bedrooms certainly require refurbishment - particularly the carpets which were quite dirty - the rooms are generally tired but the bedding however was changed daily which was a plus.

The staircarpet was extremely dirty and worn to the point of being dangerous and should be avoided if at all possible.

Greatly enjoyed our stay -lovely town and very convenient to be able to use the local train station.Hotel was fine.We had a room at the back which was quiet and shady. Also very clean with bed linen changed every other day.Polite ,friendly staff and food good. The Hotel appears to have been purpose-built in the 60`s and as such is a little tired looking but as a base it is excellent and does not cost the earth.

I can only say good things about this hotel. Both my wife and myself were very happy with our room and the standard and quality of the food that was served to us. I would like to thank the friendly staff for thier help.

Staff at all levels were friendly and helpful. Ground floor facilities reception, lounges and dinning rooms in good shape. It appears some of the bedrooms made have had a make over in recent times but not room 206. We should have asked for a move. This room was tired with 70s decor and 70s threadbare and stained carpet and a out look on to a communal bus park. late arriving coaches reversing in through a narrow entrance was very noisy. Again early morning coaches starting up engines to keep air conditioning on was upseting.
