“Manager in hot water”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2010

Dear Manager/Proprietor,
I am concerned that you replied to a fellow traveller with Great Rail Journeys that no-one else reported a lack of hot water. That is just not true.
1st. complaint Tues.28th. Sept. 8a.m. Again at 4.30p.m.
Two further trips within the next hour to reception as I had no way of contacting them by telephone since there was no hotel information within the room.
2nd.complaint Wed.29th.8a.m.
3rd.complaint Thurs.30th.8a.m.
I was told that it was because earlier risers from another tour group had used all the hot water. I do not consider this to be an adequate answer.
Yours sincerely,
R.A.Garner(Mrs.) Room 330

We stayed at the Hotel Tettuccio for seven nights with Great Rail Journeys. The hotel is in an excellent location, and looks beautiful. However there was rarely any hot water in the bedrooms, it was understaffed, and the food was dreadful. We watched the other hotel guests eat obviously to a higher standard in the conservatory restaurant whilst we felt like second class citizens eating in a high ceiling annex. The breakfast was no better than dinner, plates were left uncleared and the fruit juice was watered down. Not good, and certainly not what one would expect from a 4* hotel.

Good Moorning i'm the manager of grand hotel tettuccio, i would like give my opinion on this complaint.
first of all it's impossibile that in the room there isn't hot water also because nobody client tell us this problem and we have got 74 rooms.
i'm sorry if the food is not good for this client , but i would like explain tha this type of menu are concordate with a chef of great rail journeys the agency of this group.
In the breakfast this agency by the contract have fresh fruit, italian cornetti, coffe milk tea, orange juice cheese ham and we give to us aso fresh bread so i think that this type of breakfst it is no so this bad.
For the conservatory , it's a restaurant for our client , and the trattment it's no different like the client says , and for this agency when its possible one or two times they have dinner in the conservatory.
So i think that i and my staff we are doing everything to give a good stay to all our clients.

This beautiful hotel with high ceilings has well equipped rooms and bathrooms. Brownie points for that. We travelled to Tuscany with Great Rail Journeys, based on a 7 night stay at this hotel. Unhappily we watched other guests eating well but our meals were simply terrible. An understaffed restaurant served us 1960s style food as if we were in a zoo. Not until the last night did they produce fresh vegetables and fruit not dried or frozen. Monticatini is a beautiful spa town and all the lollipops, Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca and Viraggio are within easy reach by train or bus. We shall return again but certainly not to this hotel or with this company.

god moorning i'm the manager of the hotel, and i would like asnwer to this client.
i'm very sorry that our restaurant, it's not good for this client, but the client that eat vegetables or other food is indivudal client with a rate more high than a client that arrive with group of person and pay less more individual client.
but apart of this at this griup we give all vegetables fruti or other thing taht they request, so i think that my stuff do the maximum for give a good holiday for this group of person.
i think that our restaurant it's not so bad also because we make a lot of weddings and elegant dinner.
and also the other client of this group with his tour leader don't make any complaint to the direction.
so i0m very sorry for this client but we are here to do the maximu for give a good holidays to our client

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2009

Just returned from a 7 night stay in Tuscany, making our homebase the Grand Hotel Tettuccio. From this small town we used the trains to see Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Cinque Terra, and other small Tuscan Villages along the train line. The hotel looks just like the website, however they must have used a wide angle lense! That's okay, rooms in Italy are small. Room was clean, house keeping very excellent. Front desk staff, professional but not friendly. Morning breakfast was awful and after 3 days we stopped going down. Not much food to choose from and what was there was poor quailty and cheap. What was odd about this hotel is there is nothing in the room! No clock /radio and when I asked for one I was told "no". (we forgot ours!) No directions on how to use the phone, no book on the hotels offerings, no phone book, no directions on the TV....nothing. Very odd. I would have thought they would have had a book with everything about the place in the room, but they don't. Room was very clean, and view out to the main street was nice. I know we were there off season, and I have a feeling all the guests staying were on the same floor, which was the 3rd floor. Location perfect and this is a great little town if you don't have a car and just are going to use the train system, which is a perfect way to fit in and live like a local.

The mini refridgerator never real cooled the drinks down and they do have some items in there, but don't buy anything from there. 3 euro per soda!! We stocked up at a store about 1/2 mile away on the main street called Conards. Soda was .44 euro and water was .33 euro, so we had a stash in the room.

Excellent restaurants in this town, put on some nice shoes and go out and explore!! Best meals we had (4 dinners) was directly across the street at Cucina. Open until 0200 hours and the best pasta I have ever had. Staff there not friendly, but so very professional. Other excellent "Must eat at's" are Enoteca Giovanni, & Monte Crisco. All wonderful.

Monticatini has a great tourism information office on the same block as this hotel, use it!! Staff very nice and helpful with trains and recommendations. Also, they have cheap internet ports if you don't travel with a computer.

Two beautiful movie houses down the next block, first run movies but dubbed in Italian with no subtitles. Excellent Piano bar also close. Train station is 4 blocks away and remember that the staff is there only M-F, but they do have ticket machines only in Italian, but easy to figure out! Stamp your ticked after you get it as there is a huge fine if you don't, we always did but saw several tourist get hit with a $15.00 fine for not stamping the just purchased train ticket!

Mixed feelings about this hotel.
