“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Good location, we arrived by train and it is only a short walk, maybe 5 mins, from the station. Shops and restaurants also very close, but hotel always seemed quiet with very little noise from either cars or other guests. One night were noisy family on next floor down but once we closed our door couldn't hear a thing. Rooms were a little small, but lovely balcony helped. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and we ate dinner once in hotel, which was fine, but there was plenty of choice in the town as well. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and spoke excellent english.
We stayed just after easter and much of montecatini was shut! Good base for exploring round and we really enjoyed florence, lucca and pisa - all of which we went to by train (although an odd lack of late morning trains to lucca/pisa!). Highly recommend montecatini alto which we thought beautiful.

The hotel is conveniently located and is walking distance into town. We went in winter and used Montecatini as a base for day trips in Tuscany including Pisa, Cinque Terre and Abetone Ski Resort. We had two rooms - one large for two people and another with a double and questionable bunk bed. We ended up moving the matress from the top bed onto the floor as we were worried the bed frame would collapse. The rooms were clean although we had some difficulty with the small shower. The beds were comfortable. The availability of bikes was a plus. Breakfast was decent but we struggled with the lack of choice in the restaurant at night. Saying that the hotel did offer value for money, was clean and the staff were very helpful. It was nice to be able to sit in the lounge and foyer area and enjoy a drink. The only negatives were the hotel can be noisy at night (we even had a man knocking on our door late one night trying to get into our room) and the 'lovely' old lady at the front counter would not acknowledge us at all no matter how many times we said bongiorno! For a budget hotel, Hotel Montebello ticked most of the boxes.

Room Tip: Higher floors would not have the same amount of traffic we experienced. If getting a room with a bal...

My wife and I spent two nights at Hotel Montebello. The hotel is conveniently located somewhere between the main station and the terme park. Everything including the major shopping area, restaurants is within a walking distance. The breakfast was also included and was very decent. The staff was very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

The location, food, cleanliness, etc. were all excellent, as noted by others. But I wanted to add that we had the bad luck of some trouble with our Hertz rental car. Having rented in Rome, we had distance, and obviously language, as a barrier to finding help. The young people working the desk at the Montebello were amazing. After my gf and I spent several futile and time-consuming efforts at getting help, in desperation we asked if the staffers could briefly help translate. They did far more than that! They made several calls to both Rome and closer Hertz locations, and other places that could assist, basically adopting our problem as if it was their own. All the calls were seemingly done on their own cell phones. We were truly appreciative. They helped save our vacation time in that beautiful area!

We stayed 4 nights in October, 2012. The Montebello Hotel was perfect to use as a base to explore all of Tuscany. We used Siena the last time we were in the area, but Montecatini is less congested, lies on a convenient rail line, and puts you within reach of almost all of Tuscany's many delights. Montebello is very well managed, clean and the staff treats all guests well. There is a computer in the waiting area for complimentary internet access as well as free wifi. Breakfast was excellent and we tried dinner there a couple of times. The veal chop was one of the best I have ever had. All-in-all a great find; large rooms, clean, walking distance to the 2 nearest train stations and very affordable. What more could you ask for?

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony, although from what I saw all rooms seem nicely decorated and comforta...

I just got back from 5 nights at this hotel. My partner and I thought it was really nice.

The rooms were modern, clean, comfortable and great value for money. The location is perfect for exploring the town and reaching the public transport links.

The breakfast buffet served each morning was great, lots of choice and tasty.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

The only downside would be the lack of any English TV channels except BBC World News. Obviously it wasn't a major issue as we didn't go on holiday to watch TV but a movie in the room 'the day after the night before' would have been welcomed.

There is a restaurant called Cibus just near by which serves lovely food, we recommend a visit.

Overall we were really, really happy with the hotel, excellent value for money.
