“Enjoyable Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

We spent three nights in this lovely hotel as part of our Gate1 tour of Italy. The staff in this hotel was excellent. They were all smiles, eager to please and after first greeting us, recognized us upon subsequent meetings, remembering preferences and going out of their way to please. Service in the dining room was excellent. They must us feel as though they were glad to have us. The lobby decor and dining room decor was lovely. We had an extensive breakfast buffet each morning. I noticed 2 other dining areas off of the lobby so it may have been that our breakfast buffet was part of our tour package and other guests ordered breakfast or partook of buffets in the other 2 areas. Our tour included 2 dinners in the dinning room and again, service and food was wonderful.

There is a nice little outdoor courtyard off the hotel bar and dining room where my husband enjoyed a drink. I don't use the bar so cannot really comment on it.

Our room was adequate. It was average size, clean, the decor was older and bed was ok. The mattress and pillows were firm and ok but not cushy or anything I would call "really nice" or extra comfy. The bathroom was a nice size and had been renovated. Again, it was adequate. The shower's water pressure was pretty weak. Good enough to lather up and rinse off. There were 2 nice closet spaces with hangers and a room safe in the closet. There was a t.v. we never turned on and a stocked mini fridge which we did not use.We spent very little time in the bedroom so it was fine for the 3 nights.

I have rated this hotel very good because of it's staff, food, location and ambiance.I would rate the bedroom and bath as average.

We stayed at this hotel for seven nights. We were on a package holiday with Travel Department on a half board basis. This tour company was absolutely superb from beginning to end. The tours from Montecatini and the rep, Max, we're first class.

The Grand Plaza was perfectly located for easy access to everything in Montecatini. High quality shops, restaurants and bars all surround the hotel. A short walk to the funicular to Montecatini Alto mustn't be missed.

The hotel itself was very impressive. A very spacious reception area full of character greets you on arrival. A grand staircase leading to upstairs. The bedroom was large with high ceilings. There was modern furniture with plenty of space for clothes. It also had a safe and a fridge. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was large with shower over the bath. Most importantly, it was extremely clean. The rooms were cleaned daily and the towels were changed daily.

The restaurant also was very impressive with lots of character. The breakfast was Buffett with something for everyone. It also had bacon and egg. The evening meal was a four course waiter service dinner. The food was excellent quality and good portions. On the last night we had a five course meal with champaign. The waiters were very polite and helpful.

To summarise, Montecatini is an excellent base to explore Tuscany. The Grand Plaza is an excellent hotel to stay in Montecatini.

Just back from a weeks stay in the Grand Plaza. A stand out feature of this hotel is its location. It is a two minute walk from the rail station with Florence, Pisa and Lucca no more than an hour away. It is also centrally located with the town of Montecatino. The main square was undergoing work during our stay and there is no doubt when that is finished it will look great. The hotel and rooms we had were clean, smallish with high ceilings and functional. The beds (and pillows) were comfortable. Our room was over a courtyard and early morning sounds tended to be amplified louder than intended. We only had breakfast and the buffet was ordinary. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We used the pool area and it was spotless. The sun loungers and deck chairs were comfortable but not that plentiful. Not the fault of the hotel but the tall buildings that surrounded the hotel meant that a lot of the pool area was in the shade from mid afternoon. Overall I would have no problem recommending the Grand Plaza

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from main square and street

An Old Dame! With many flat screen Tv 's.
Rooms sparely furnish. Clocks, tissues not available.
When we arrived air conditioner was not working. The first night the AC was shut
Rooms walls are paper thin.
Excellent location, helpful staff provided you have simple request.
Our Dr staff was very attentive.
The Wi Fi was slow and could not connect
Tried to go for a mud wrap and it was a requirement of the SPA that should get $70 euro medical clearance. (This has. Nothing to do with the hotel)

Room Tip: Not sure what that is

Have just returned from a fabulous Shearing's Grand Tourer Coach Holiday to Montecatini Terme in Italy and stayed 7 nights in this Hotel. I had Bed and Breakfast and Evening Meal. Fantastic waiter service, wonderful food, excellent selection, superb hospitality, and a great location, Views from back rooms over Montecatini Alto so relaxing .A bit noisy at the front, at present, as the Plaza is being renovated but will be finished soon.Thoroughly recommend to others and would return without hesitation.Central for trains and buses.

We were in a fairly large group (52) who, for the most part, were strangers to each other on arrival. Very soon the friendly staff at reception and in the restaurant had us all feel at home and chatting to each other like old friends. The bedrooms and public areas were very clean and were maintained in that condition by a very helpful team. The restaurant meals were served by a delightful group of waiters who went out of their way to ensure an enjoyable experience, and ensured an alternative for anyone who had a dietary need or who wanted nothing on the menu. Breakfast was self-service, with a large variety to choose from. For evening meals we got the starter and the main course we ordered at breakfast time. Although those were a choice between two options, they did form part of the 5 course dinner. There was variety in the menus during the week we stayed. Portions were generous, and for those of us who are coffee drinkers the breakfast coffee was excellent. There is a small roof-top swimming pool which is well worth using. The only down side was the noise from a bar below our balcony, but even that stopped at midnight. I really do not recognize the "conditions" a previous reviewer made about some aspects of the hotel....maybe you get what you pay your tour operator for!
