“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

Just back from a weeks stay in the Grand Plaza. A stand out feature of this hotel is its location. It is a two minute walk from the rail station with Florence, Pisa and Lucca no more than an hour away. It is also centrally located with the town of Montecatino. The main square was undergoing work during our stay and there is no doubt when that is finished it will look great. The hotel and rooms we had were clean, smallish with high ceilings and functional. The beds (and pillows) were comfortable. Our room was over a courtyard and early morning sounds tended to be amplified louder than intended. We only had breakfast and the buffet was ordinary. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We used the pool area and it was spotless. The sun loungers and deck chairs were comfortable but not that plentiful. Not the fault of the hotel but the tall buildings that surrounded the hotel meant that a lot of the pool area was in the shade from mid afternoon. Overall I would have no problem recommending the Grand Plaza

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from main square and street

An Old Dame! With many flat screen Tv 's.
Rooms sparely furnish. Clocks, tissues not available.
When we arrived air conditioner was not working. The first night the AC was shut
Rooms walls are paper thin.
Excellent location, helpful staff provided you have simple request.
Our Dr staff was very attentive.
The Wi Fi was slow and could not connect
Tried to go for a mud wrap and it was a requirement of the SPA that should get $70 euro medical clearance. (This has. Nothing to do with the hotel)

Room Tip: Not sure what that is

Have just returned from a fabulous Shearing's Grand Tourer Coach Holiday to Montecatini Terme in Italy and stayed 7 nights in this Hotel. I had Bed and Breakfast and Evening Meal. Fantastic waiter service, wonderful food, excellent selection, superb hospitality, and a great location, Views from back rooms over Montecatini Alto so relaxing .A bit noisy at the front, at present, as the Plaza is being renovated but will be finished soon.Thoroughly recommend to others and would return without hesitation.Central for trains and buses.

We were in a fairly large group (52) who, for the most part, were strangers to each other on arrival. Very soon the friendly staff at reception and in the restaurant had us all feel at home and chatting to each other like old friends. The bedrooms and public areas were very clean and were maintained in that condition by a very helpful team. The restaurant meals were served by a delightful group of waiters who went out of their way to ensure an enjoyable experience, and ensured an alternative for anyone who had a dietary need or who wanted nothing on the menu. Breakfast was self-service, with a large variety to choose from. For evening meals we got the starter and the main course we ordered at breakfast time. Although those were a choice between two options, they did form part of the 5 course dinner. There was variety in the menus during the week we stayed. Portions were generous, and for those of us who are coffee drinkers the breakfast coffee was excellent. There is a small roof-top swimming pool which is well worth using. The only down side was the noise from a bar below our balcony, but even that stopped at midnight. I really do not recognize the "conditions" a previous reviewer made about some aspects of the hotel....maybe you get what you pay your tour operator for!

This has been a most difficult review.
I met some people travelling with another company who had paid a similiar price to me and ate in the "American" dining room and were "wowed" by the choice !!!
I travelled with Shearings and an otherwise super holiday was marred by the dining experience.
Breakfast was served in an alcove off a larger room with appalling accoustics, windowless and extremely hot. Conversation was deafening.
The breakfast choice was abysmal.
Coffee served in open kitchen type jugs.
Paper table cloths.
All I wanted was an egg BUT my holiday company had not included this !!!

Dinner - The starters and salad courses were delicious.
The main course appeared to have prepared quite a long time before being served.

Point of interest: The Shearing Drivers dined in the "American" dining room .

My bedroom was spacious and in need of updating.

The maid service was excellent.

A sad review as I feel that if I had enjoyed the "American" diningroom experience my review would have been so so different.

Room Tip: Choice your holiday company with great care !

I spent 7 nights at the Grand Plaza as part of a tour group. Breakfast and dinner were included in our travel package. The food was sooooo much better than the usual tour food. The wait staff was nice and very professional. They "presented" some of our entrees like a whole roast pig and a salmon. Our room was spacious including a bathroom with a great tub and shower. There was a very active cafe in the courtyard that was load for those light sleepers in the group. The location was great with easy access to Montecatini shopping and theater. The train to Florence, Lucca etc was a 5 minute walk.

Room Tip: For light sleepers, be sure to get a room away from the street noise
