“Work in progress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Just back from a week in this very stylish town - though many shops and attractions were closed due to the August flight to coooler climes. On the face of it, the public rooms of Croce di Malta are achingly stylish (as part of an ongoing refurbishment) but populated by stylishly aching septagenarians. Probably a different clientele entirely in the cooler months. Our room (not yet refurbished) was clean, the bathroom was monumentally marbled and it had a whirlpool bath. However, as a family of 3 we would probably book a junior suite next time so we wer not The hotel is almost impossible to find in the Escher-inspired local traffic system, but the recepton staff were kind enough to email the traffic cops twice to save us a ticket when crashing the on/off pedestrian areas. As late risers we didn't get full value from the breakfast buffet, as it was not fully replenished after a certain time - and the small waiting staff seemd a tad frazzled by the end of service. Half of the room was given over to the large party of elderly folk, which meant a bit of a scramble for the remaining tables, which (perhaps understandably) weren't always cleared from previous diners. We ate out each night, and would heartily recommend a trip to Montecatini Alto for an al fresco meal in a beautiful square - but don't expect to park after 8.00pm. The Funicular railway is a good alternative at 7 euros return. The pool was lovely, but suffered from the usual staking of claims to loungers by towel. We will certainly return to Croce di Malta, and by then maybe all of the rooms will match the loveliness of the public areas.

Room Tip: Go for a refurbished corner room with a view towards Montecatini Alto over the park.

“Ideal location, loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

We found this hotel very clean and comfortable with plenty of seating around the hotel for relaxing. Our room on the top floor was lovely with a large bathroom and balcony with lovely views over the park and town, but very quiet. The only downside was that your need to be up before dawn to locate a sunbed around the pool area, as towels were on the beds at 6.30a.m., and feel that this is a policy the hotel should remedy as we were there for one week and were never able to locate a sunbed until very late afternoon . We would however recommend this hotel and location for convenience of exploring the nearby tourist attractions.

“Beautiful Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

The hotel is beautiful. The Foyer is elegant and very clean. The pool is magnificent. The breakfast is magnificent. The staff are extremely helpful. I have to be honest but there is a fine line between being helpful to the tripadvisor users and helpful to the hotel, but I have to be honest. We were given room 611 in what appears to be the old part of the hotel. The room was poor but I decided not to complain because I did not know what the rest of the hotel looked like however on the second night a noise started coming from the vent in the air coditioning system. I had 2 young kids and my wife. I rang reception and they said they would move me tomorrow. I said ok but as the noise went on it got worse so I walked to reception and told them I could not put up with it. Immediately they brought me to what I can only describe as the best hotel room I have ever stayed in. It was on th 3rd floor overlooking a beautiful park and the old town of Montecatini. So our holiday changed dramatically. So I hope you can understand my dilemma. I had a problem and they dealt with it so how can I complain. I want to tell Tripadvisor users that there appears to be an old part of the hotel and a new part. Montecatini itself is beautiful and very safe with lovely wals at night. A great base to see Tuscany. €4.60 on the train from Montecatini to Florence for what can only be described as the most beautiful city in the world especially for Art lovers. My kids loved the pool with the push button fountain. There is a big supermarket 15min walk away where all the locals go. Be careful with the taxis. They are expensive. Make sure you ask them the price first. The hotel is walking distance from the train station even with 2 kids.

Room Tip: There is an old part of this hotel. Make sure you specify a room in the new part. When you are at th...

“Loved it! Checking out today and desperate to come back....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012 via mobile

Fantastic find in a lovely spa town. Perfect introduction to Tuscany for the whole family. Staff were wonderful especially Chiara and Ivana. We were very lucky to have one of the new refurb'ed rooms that you couldn't fault. Fab quiet location near the park but minutes from the town or station and free bikes to explore Montecatini. Food was really good with no chance of going hungry! Loved it...

“The pool/spa!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

The pool and spa area is very nice (and they are expending and refurbishing).

The rooms in the old part of the hotel (we had a double with (two rooms with a balcony) are like a east - european style. But it was big, and clean.

The lunch was great, but dinner at the restaurant was a disaster.

It has a great location, and is good for families.
