This is a difficult one! Thank you to Giuliano for being very accommodating and always very obliging with a smile! The rest of the staff could learn a great deal about customer service from you! Apart from the gentlemen on Reception, the Spa staff and the Lady Who offered us a hand with our bags on departure the rest of the staff we met in breakfast and by the pool should be removed as they are frankly rude and have no idea of 'Internationally acceptable levels of customer service'. The Hotel Is definitely tired and is ready for some TLC, the owners should take a serious look at what is on offer and ask themselves whether they feel they are offering real 5 star accommodation and service with Italian flair and finesse. We stayed for 2 nights and had a deluxe room which was of a decent size and had some nice traditional Italian furniture mixed with a not so great 80's style 'ying and yang' headboard. The beds were 2 basic single beds pushed together, the mattresses were fairly cheap domestic type mattresses, not what I would class as 5 star hotel beds at all! The bathrooms in contrast were very nice modern style with twin bowl sinks and bath with shower over and glass screen. Head of Housekeeping - Please go around a selection of rooms and check for dust! The cleaning was not thorough and after complaining about unacceptable levels of dust on the dado rails and beside lamps, it still had not been cleaned and I ended up dusting it myself (sorry about the dirty wet towel!). Also a fabulous balcony let down by dusty and rickety old wooden shutters and the floor covered in bird dirt. The mirrors in the room are opulent guilt framed type but the mirrors themselves are clouded and have seen better days. We used the Pool which was a good size and the water was clean, the pool boy and his accomplice should be sacked as they were most unhelpful and have not got a shred of customer service in them. I had to collect our own sun-lounger cushions on 2 occasions, once when both of them stood watching! The stone flagged area around the pool was disgraceful with debris that had not been swept in a long time, cigarette butts on the floor and chewing gum stuck to the actually quite nice sun lounger furniture. The gardens need a good pruning and the lawn requires a good cut. It's so frustrating when you can see such potential in a well established and important Hotel but no-one seems to care about it! The hotel has some amazing pieces of antique furniture and paintings to match the equally opulent grand rooms with high ceilings and chandeliers but upstairs it is scattered about with huge areas being left bare with big gaps and minimal furnishings on the landings and corridors and thread bare carpets and rugs. Having said all of this I do hope that the management taken note of the comments and those left before, even without a grand budget I do feel that this hotel could once again be very nice, it just requires some strong management and leadership and a good old scrub and polish and some clearing out of some staff who cannot provide the level of customer service that a Hotel of this standing requires. Would I go back, definitely yes, in the hope that next time there has been a big improvement and I can shout from the rooftops about it!
