“perfect bolthole”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

I stayed here for 3 nights in July and it was a perfect trip. The staff were kind, helpful and couldnt do enough for me to make my stay enjoyable.

The room was clean, big enough and the bathroom was lovely.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014 via mobile

Lovely little hotel, recently renovated with a nice mix of modern and traditional. We had room 201, Tuscan Suite, which had a separate dressing room with wardrobes, dressing table, mirror, TV. Bedroom was large with a fridge which was handy. Lovely high ceilings, all freshly plastered and painted and a beautiful large bathroom with a great, powerful shower. Fresh towels daily, bed linen changed a couple of times in a week, nice toiletries and a good little hair dryer. Breakfast room was really nice, lots of tables for two, good selection of yogurts, fruit, bread, croissants, cheese, meats and a few hot things. Coffee was made to order and it was lovely too. Location was perfect, not far from anywhere in Montecatini and quiet at night. My only negative was the air con was inadequate for the high temperatures of +30. I would certainly return however, despite the air con but may choose a slightly cooler time of year.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2014

We just got home from our first trip to Italy, visiting Florence, Tuscany and Rome. To make our base in Tuscany, we chose to stay in Montecatini. It is central to other places like Lucca and Pisa, and not as costly as Florence. It seems that many tour companies put groups up in this small town also which has numerous other hotels.
Smart Hotel Bartolini is new/recently remodeled. Currently the street in front is closed for construction. We had rented a car and driven in from Florence but GPS could not direct us around the street closure. We called the hotel and the gentleman understood what was happening. He stayed on the phone with us directing us where to drive and then to our surprise, came out from the hotel (about a block away) and met us on the street. From there he helped me take the luggage to the hotel and directed my partner as to where we could park the car in a free lot which is only about 2 blocks from the hotel.
Our room was ready for us, so we were able to get everything in and get out to enjoy the rest of the day. For dinner that night he recommended a great place that was about 3 blocks away called La Cascina which had great atmosphere and food.
We asked about breakfast for the next morning to see what time the breakfast was offered. He asked what time would we like it? We were heading out early for a day of wine tasting, so we figured at 7 AM. Coming downstairs the next morning, everything was laid out in the breakfast room like it had been prepared especially for us. The lady in charge of the food prep asked what kind of coffee we would like and brought those to us right away. She also inquired if we would like eggs, which she prepared especially for my partner.
Although I am not posting pictures, the "disco" shower you can see on their website and booking sites looks exactly the same in person! I have to say though, BEST shower experience that we had in Italy! An American style shower that is not open to get the entire bathroom floor wet! Wonderful rain shower and hand held spray. Heaven!
What was so enjoyable about the hotel was, although we saw tour groups coming into town on their buses and checking into their hotels in herds, it appears that Smart Hotel was not catering to these groups. At one point we thought that we were the only 2 in the hotel! But, then the next day we did see that there were other guests there. However, such a quiet and peaceful couple of nights!
Finally upon checking out, we had already turned in the car, so we requested a taxi to the train station. Although it is located within a very easy walking distance to the hotel, we did not care to drag our bags down the street all that way. Bear in mind that the street in front of the hotel is currently closed, so the young lady at the desk who called to order the taxi, accompanied us down to the end of the block to assure that the taxi found us.
This was such a wonderful experience. Best service and not to mention, the most reasonably priced room of our trip!
