Really enjoyed our stay at Al Vivit. Great to return from the very busy lanes of Venice to the local square in Mestre. The hotel is comfortable, the breakfast excellent but what really makes it are the staff. Both the reception staff were extremely friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. The restaurant staff for breakfast extremely friendly which gave the hotel a lovely vibe. If we returned to Venice we would stay here again and really can't give a better recommendation than that.

We stayed two nights with our young child (on the third floor) as we were visiting Venice for a day. The hotel staff at the front desk during the day was great and so was the breakfast staff, however at night the person in charge does not speak English and was not very helpful when we requested assistance with the Air Conditioner that never worked. It was over 90F in the room, so needless to say we slept very poorly and sweated like crazy! Nothing was done regarding the AC and no options were given to switch rooms and they said they did not have fans. The beds are of very low quality but had nice linens. The location is nice and the plaza in front of the hotel has good places to eat. The parking lot is far and you have to carry your own luggage and the spaces are very small for a large car. If you decide to go in the summer, make sure to NOT stay on the top floor or you'll suffer like us!

Room Tip: DO NOT get rooms on top floor if it is the summer!

Our family of four, including two children ages 14 and 10 stayed here from July 14th - July 17th. We had read all of the prior reviews in Trip Advisor before making the selection. After hitching a ride by public bus #41(?) to the hotel we found it to be a very short walk to the hotel through the public square. The hotel is very much a "botique" hotel.

We arrived an hour earlier than check-iin permitted so we dropped our suitcases off and explored the square. The employee at the reception desk was somewhat helpful in orienting us with maps. We then grabbed a quick bite at the Pub Restaurant next door which had slow service and so-so food but perfect for what we needed to relax.

We went back into the hotel at 2:00pm and we were given the keys to Room 202 which is on the 2nd floor facing the square - when looking at the pictures of the front of the hotel, the windows to the room are to the immediate left of the hotel sign which is quite bright at night.
Since we were staying from Thursday to Sunday, based on other trip advisor reviews, I was really concerned about the potential late night noise and church bells.

Well - put those fears to rest. The square was not busy at all until Saturday night but even then, with the room windows closed and air on - none of us heard any noise. On Sunday, we heard the church bells and they do go on for sometime but they were not disturbingly loud (rather like faint background noise).

Our room was very small by American standards but standard by European standards. There were three beds in the room - a small twin, a good size double/queen and then a 2nd small twin which was a murphy bed. The room had a small closet with a table, small tv and small refrigerator which was stocked with expensive goodies. We walked to the Simply Market about 900 meters away, stocked up on supplies, and put those in the fridge to consume - MUICH MUCH CHEAPER!

The real challenge for us in the room wasn't so much the space but the bathroom. It was certainly very modern in design but the shower stall (again - typical for europe) was super smal to the point that l I could not turn around in it without bumping into the knob for the water, and turning it off or bashing my elbows when I tried to bend my arms. The towels were were very small and course as well.

There was a small alcove in the hallway on the 2nd floor that had a computer with free internet access, however the computer was so painfully slow I simply used my Smart Phone. My oldest child enjoyed it for keeping up with his friends on Facebook.

We are not big breakfast people but there was plenty of selection at the eating room. Again - do not expect a Marriot Courtyard/Embassy Suite type of buffet. This is Europe so it's an assortment of cheeses, meats (ham, salami, etc.), juices, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, jams and breads - what we would consider a continental breakfast in America. There were also poached eggs and a nice hot beverage machine offering a wide assortment of coffee's and hot chocolate. While our kids did not enjoy the breakfast, I thought it was perfectly fine.

Now about traveling into Venice from the hotel. I'm not sure why some other reviewers complained about the walk to the bus from the hotel. I agree with those who said it's a short walk. If it took us 8 minutes to walk to the bus stop it was a lot. It's a very short walk to Bus #7 and there are two stops within a couple of blocks from each other to pick from. We would go to the one in front of the commercial stores. The hotel provides a great map on how to get there and it's really not confusing at all. Bus #7 runs until midnight than you need to take Bus #4L after that that runs all night and drops you off on the other side of the square.

We found the busses to be jam packed (and we were the third stop of the bus) but never had to wait for the next one. With the exception of Sunday morning, when the bus was empty, we were unable to get a seat on the bus but that was fine with us.

Travel time to Venice seemed to vary based on other reviews and I now understand why. It has to do with the volume of passengers trying to squeeze on the bus. I timed the trip several times and it varied from 15-20 minutes. It sounds long but even with packed buses, it never felt terribly long. The bus drops you off at the P.Roma stop - end of the line in Venice City. Great spot to hop Vaperatto #2 or simply to walk from.

We never waited more than 30 minutes for the bus to pull out of P.Roma heading back to Mestre.

Staff at the hotel always tried to be helpful, though not always clear with information provided.
The last day of our trip, we had to catch Venezia Lines to Croatia at 5:00pm. The hotel was very gracious in allowing us to store our bags after check-out until we came back in the afternoon to get them.

Overall, a perfectly fine hotel in a very accessible location for Venice. For the price and location, a much better option than the costs of Venice Hotels. Definitely consider this place - having the square to walk around in at night was very nice. I did not load up any photos of mine from the square because there are plenty of those on the internet and they are all pretty accurate.

This hotel is right on the Piazza but we did not find it noisy at all, our room was not overlooking the Piazza but the small lane on the other side and very quiet. We had a lovely room which by European standards was large with a very modern bathroom. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay a very good experience. Breakfast was very well presented with a lot of great choices. The bus from Mestre to Venice takes approximately 15 minutes and runs very frequently both ways. The walk from Mestre Train Station takes about 20 minutes should you choose to do this. The only issue was with the internet which was a bit hard to receive in your room on laptops (smart phones didn't seem to have a problem accessing internet in rooms), but was available from the Terrace Room or the Internet area.

Room Tip: We were in room 116

Hotel Al Vivit met all our needs perfectly, the bus to Venice is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and only takes 10 minutes. The hotel room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff were fabulous, they were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and had a great variety of food. I would stay here again without any hesitation and have recommended the hotel to my family and friends.

We have just checked out of this hotel after a 3 night stay and I was not only very impressed by the hotel but would stay here again without hesitation! The staff are friendly, helpful and very tolerant of my non existent Italian!

The rooms were clean, very spacious and comfortable and there was nothing lacking. The breakfast was vast, fresh and delicious and coffee varieties, juices and teas were in abundance.

The staff helped us book a gondola ride, explained the transport system and took the stressor traveling away by selling us bus (both land and water) tickets before we left the hotel making it affordable and giving us the best value for money possible. Theysuggestedamazing places to visit and this maximized our stay in Venice.

Upon leaving they organized a taxi and it was waiting for us at the end of the Piazza when we got there as the hotel is situated in a no car zone.

The no car Piazza made for a welcoming "home coming" each evening as it was away from the thick tourist crowds in Venice and it was pretty, well serviced and we chose to eat here each night.

What a gem of a hotel and thank you for our stay!
