“6th and 7th night of our Trafalgar Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

This was our stop for the 6th and 7th night of our tour, as we had a bus at our disposal the location wasn't overly important to us however if you were there on your own location is not ideal. It was quite a distance from the Venice Island. We had a reasonable continental style breakfast. The rooms were clean and tidy however the common areas were quite grubby and the hallway had a weird smell about it. Our room didn't have a very nice outlook however the back of the hotel overlooked a marina of personal boats so that outlook may not have been to bad. We had dinner at the hotel which was a little strange in the way it was served to us but was quite nice.

We stayed at the Laguna Palace for 2 nights at the beginning of October when it was still sunny and hot. From a previous review that I had noted...“Just check the smell before you settle. Try to get one away from the lifts, there are glass doors next to the lifts and many times people just shut them violently” The room we were finally given at the end of the day looked clean, modern and bright. When we arrived the room was hot and smelly so we opened the window (it only opens a little) and turned on the air con. As it did not seem to work we asked reception to come up and check it. They said it did not work if the window was open. I suggested that the room smelt bad so we needed the window open. He said he was a smoker so he couldn't smell anything. We were tired from walking around Venice all day while waiting for a room, so we went to bed and tried to sleep. The smell was so bad it woke us up and we ended up with a sore throat, so the next morning we asked if we could change rooms, even though it would have been a nuisance repacking all of our things. The receptionist said they all had the same smell, so we remained in the smelly room. I am not sure what the smell was, drains, the canal outside the window, or new synthetic carpets, but it was certainly toxic. All of this is a pity as it looks a nice modern hotel, the rooms a decent size and the breakfast is excellent. The hotel would be good value as it is close to Venice by bus and a cheaper option than staying in Venice. I have the feeling we had room 529 which a previous T A mentioned in relation to a terrible smell.
I think I would rather pay more for a smaller room in beautiful Venice where the ambiance is out of this world. I would not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Check out the air conditioning and toxic smell before you unpack.

My fiance was staying at the hotel for work and I met him there. The cab ride from the airport was about 25 euros which is much cheaper than the water taxis if you are thinking of staying in mainland Venice. Mestre is a great location to stay in Venice proximity. The hotel had great local food right by, even though they were more mainstream restaurants but still delicious food. There is a great coffee shop around the corner for a quick espresso in the morning. The walk to the bus is a nice walk that we both did during the day and at night to catch the bus into Venice. There is a grocery store right by the bus station which is convenient because you can stock up on water and food since the hotel has a mini-fridge. The hotel has a modern look to it with average room decor. The TV is small and outdated but if you are in Venice you shouldn't really have much use for it anyways. The service is a little slow and the restaurant/hotel bar close early. I would say to get a room in the main building as the second building does not offer room service and is a little bit further away. All in all I thought this was a really great value.

Room Tip: Choose the main building to book a room in.

Except for the Air Conditioner that never was cool enough, it was a very nice hotel. The biggest negative for me was the distance from the the train station. I booked this room on-line without knowing exactly which hotel I was getting. Big mistake and not a reflection on the hotel itself. In similar circumstances, I would recommend choosing one of the many hotels much closer to the train station.

This hotel is branded as a conference hotel and it feels business and a bit cold. As others have mentioned, the hotel is in Mestre, about 8 km away from Venice island. We took a taxi from Piazzale di Roma back to the hotel after midnight and it cost us EUR 25 (not bad for four people given the vaporetto ride is EUR 7 each. To get to San Marco, it'd take at least 45 minutes. The room rate is a bit steep in my opinion given its location. Of course, for the same-rate option on the island, you'd have to climb stairs and stay in a much smaller room... Well, it's all about give and take.

Room Tip: Pick a room with the lagoon view.

Venice was the last port of our Mediterranean cruise, so we decided to stay over for 2 days. This hotel was very nice, but it was very difficult to get to Venice. The hotel did not have a shuttle, and to catch the bus, you had to walk about a mile each way. Taxi rides to Venice from this hotel were extremely expensive. The next time we visit Venice, we will pay more for the hotel and stay on the main canal. We just spent way too much time getting getting there.

NH Laguna Palace seems to built to host large groups of people, tourist groups or conferences. The hotel is actually located in two building with water in the middle. To walk between them takes about 5 minutes. If you are in a group make sure that you get a room in the same building. The water in between the building creates a good atmosphere and the restaurant serves good food. The rooms we stayed in were large, but not nice. The walls were empty and there were two small tube TVs. For some reason there were light switches everywhere?! The included internet was very slow.
