“Return visit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Stayed about a week in August. Agree with the previous reviewer about "the owners trying a bit, but not hanging out the bunting". If you want a quiet room with balcony and lake view, book room 208. We've stayed there twice and it's very nice, well decorated and spacious. The room was clean upon arrival and maintained reasonably well during our stay. Avoid the hotel breakfast, it's poor and not worth the money! The best food is found at DiPaolo's - avoid texting your reservation and reserve a table well in advance if you want to eat outside.Their fish, especially, is excellent!

I swam practically every day in the lake - other than that there's not a lot to do in Menaggio. For sightseeing use the boat service, which is good, and make sure you visit Belaggio.

Menaggio overrun . A small place that only works in summer if you have some activity to pursue - boating or the like.
Everything is crowded , straining, noisy . The hotel is bang in the centre . picturesque. And after a grapple with the reservation system - all perfectly amicable. The room was OK but inevitably noisy and they clearly have issue with their laundry bill. One not large towel per person - not a huge setback . Pretty pricey = but then it's the Lakes in high summer so we made a mistake.

I’m an enthusiastic new reviewer, catching up on trips as far back as Trip Advisor will allow, so this is an August 2013 review relating to a September 2012 visit.

Like at least two previous reviewers, I haven’t actually stayed in this hotel, although we made its cafe bar our usual evening ‘haunt’ for post dinner drinks whilst staying in Menaggio, so I felt it deserved a few words.

The outside seating area occupies an extremely picturesque location just opposite the lake, in the centre of Menaggio, from where you can enjoy a relaxing drink watching the world go by, day or night. There is a good range of drinks on offer, including most of the traditional cocktails, at pretty reasonable prices by Italian resort standards.

During the indifferent weather that we experienced during our trip, we were forced indoors one evening, where the smart, attractive interior decor adds to the character and overall atmosphere of the establishment as whole. Service was friendly and impeccably efficient during all of our visits.

Whether it be for a daytime pit-stop, an aperitivo or a digestivo, the cafe bar at the Hotel du Lac more than deserves a visit.

I've visited Lago di Como several times, and I have found that the Hotel du Lac is the very best location at the lake. The hotel is lovely, the staff is friendly, the breakfast is sufficient and convenient in the café just downstairs. But the location makes everything just perfect: Right on the lakeside in Menaggio, just steps to several wonderful restaurants, lovely places to sit under the stars in the evening, and just a few steps to the ferry that will take you to all the other towns around the lake.

Room Tip: Ask for Lake View, of course.

Booked two double rooms with lake view for 3 nights - nice view of main piazza and lake, good aircon, good room size and friendly staff. No frills at this hotel - even breakfast had to be purchased sperately at the outside cafe - but this worked out OK. Expensive - but to be expected in the largest tourist city outside og Como.

Room Tip: try to book the top floor (3rd floor) which has a roof terrace.

OK we've never stayed actually stayed here. But we been on 5 or 6 occasions when we've been in the area & enjoyed each visit. The setting is just wonderful, over-looking the busy quayside of Menaggio and Lake Como. We've had snacks & drinks each time & vowed to return. The service is excellent & good value too. But the views across to Bellagio & along the lake are breath-taking. Perfect place to sit & relax and people watch.

Stayed at this hotel for one week and really enjoyed our stay. We had a lovely room (which was spotless) looking out over Lake Como. The hotel is very friendly and the staff are very helpful. Always with a smile!! The hotel has a limited, but very nice menu and there are plenty of lovely places to eat round about. I defy anyone to pass the ice cream shop next door and not buy one!
The location is great for exploring. Only a few minutes stroll and you can hop on a boat to take you to other parts of the Lake. Bellagio, just across from Menaggio is well worth a visit especially if you like to shop!! We took the boat right up the Lake, the scenery is stunning!
We also took the train to Milan whilst there. It was very easy. We got a boat down the Lake to Como City and took a train from there. The train station is within walking distance from the boat station.
We very much enjoyed our week there. Plenty to do or just relax in the sun. Lovely!!!

Room Tip: Facing the Lake.
