“Fantastic location and hospitality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

The balcony views from Parthenope are so wonderful that we spent half a day of our hols just sitting there all afternoon and evening! Our host, Tina, was extremely helpfully without being intrusive - the perfect balance. Although the villa is some way out of town, the surrounding area is beautiful and bus services reliable if you don't mind walking 1km to the stop. All in all we wished we had stayed 2 weeks not just 5 days. There is even private underground parking for cars. We cannot recommend Villa Mon Plaisir highly enough

We found Villa Mon Plaisir on the internet for our visit in late September to the Amalfi Coast. The welcome and care for us by Tina, Gianni, and their daughter Livia was exceptional. They are a warm and hospitable family. Tina and Livia have good English language skills, which was great as we spoke no real Italian.

Villa Mon Plaisir is in a small village (Torca) between Sorrento and Positano. It is perched high above the Gulf of Salerno with breathtaking views to the Amalfi Coast. The balcony overlooked the Il Galli islands - famous as the home of the Sirens and the Greek legend of Jason and the Argonauts.

Our accommodation was lovely with a fabulous, large balcony where we spent a lot of time soaking up the view. Our breakfasts were a delight with home made cakes and fresh pastries. Nothing was too much trouble for Tina and Livia as we were treated as family.

Villa Mon Plaisir's accommodation was very comfortable, the location spectacular, with the wonderful Tina and family making it truly memorable.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a three week holiday travelling around southern Italy.

On arrival we were served some delightful chocolate pastries and coffee and were given a very thorough run-down on what to do in the area by our hostesses Tina and her daughter Livia.

Because the street parking is restricted outside the house we were able to park our car in a very secure subterranean garage only a minutes walk away.

For dinner Tina booked us into a restaurant that needs a plug here even though I've given it a separate trip advisor review. Il Fienile is the name of the restaurant, that at most is 5 minutes walk from the house. This was not just a great meal, it was one of life's great and memorable experiences and it is worth driving onto the peninsula just for this.

For our second night we walked to Sant'Agata due del golfi and had an excellent meal at Lo Stuzzichino which was also very nice. It is about a 15 minute walk, which gave us the opportunity to walk off that extra course.

Back to the house -the kitchen is fully stocked and the room and kitchen are excellent and very comfortable.

There was a problem with the wi fi which lasted the duration of our stay and was a pain, but I understand was due to electrical work being done during our stay. All in all, recommended.

To get there seems complicated.

Put Torca into your GPS. On reaching the Torca church, you will see the sign for Mon Plaisir straight ahead of you leading down a narrow road. Follow that road and then take the second left. The house is two doors down.

We stayed in the apartment for three nights and it was one of our better choices for our Italy tour. Tina and her daughter were exceptionally friendly and helpful. When I mentioned that we wanted to go to Capri on one of the days, Tina booked us on a boat tour that she said was the same price as the ferry but you got the whole tour plus a van picked you up a block away and brought you back. That worked out well, except that the boat was a lot smaller than we anticipated. The tour was great though. You may not want to use that tour in rough weather.

Even though we had the apt. that did not include breakfast, Tina had left us a huge selection of bread, pastries, home made desserts as well as fresh fruit. She even refreshed the selection each day which was a pleasant surprise.

The apartment is spacious and includes a full kitchen. We ended up going twice to a local restaurant that Tina suggested. 'Il fieniele' ended up being fantastic with great food that was reasonably priced. It's about a 6 minute walk on the other side of S. Agata. Well worth it.

The views from the balcony are awesome. Sunrise is not to be missed but you are facing the wrong direction for sunsets. The only thing I didn't expect is that the large apartment actually comprises two of the three balcony sections on the B&B photo. One smaller unit has the left side which would have a partially obstructed sea view and the other one is to the rear, right side with a partial view also. Book the large apartment if it is available for sure.

Wifi was a bit of an issue. Tina's daughter looks after it and it's not on when she is at school teaching and is turned off later in the evening. I had trouble logging on but it was a password issue, not signal strength.

We did have some trouble finding the place. Tina's instructions were clear but the signs are easy to get wrong along the way. Our GPS took us on back roads and streets for the shortest route. Each time we drove in & out we seemed to take a different route and it wasn't until the last day that we found the best way, which was not exactly what Tina or the GPS told us to.

One problem is that you are living right in the local neighbourhood. Tina's dogs were not a problem but there are lots of other dogs that do bark late at night and early in the morning. Traffic noise is very minimal.

Overall a great place that we would use again.

Room Tip: Book the large apartment for the better balcony.

We wouldn't normally book a B&B but thought we'd give this a go and were very glad we did. Tina & Gianni + family are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They gave us lots great advice on where to go & where to eat without being intrusive. The breakfasts were divine and fantastic having them on our balcony with sunrise. We didn't have the greatest weather all week but Tina helped us make the most of it. Torca is a great place to stay if you don't want to be swamped by tourists yet you are close enough (15 min drive Sorrento or bus available) to Sorrento, Pompeii, Bay of Ieranto (which was gorgeous & we wouldn't have known about with Tina's suggestion). Also on this side of the peninsula you have the Marina beach (far better than Sorrento). Tina also booked our excursion to Capri with the local co-operative, great day out.The room has it's own access so you can come & go as you please. The room was cleaned everyday & was spotless. We didn't get time to see everything we wanted to (bit of rain played it's part) so we will be going back to Villa Mon Plaisir. Very friendly hosts and excellent English (our Italian is none existent!).

We have never tasted croissants so light and pastries so delicious as we gazed at an incomparable view over the Bay of Sorrento. This was just one aspect of the pleasure of staying at Villa Mon Plaisir. The greeting by Gianni at Sorrento as if we were old friends; the smiling welcome at the Villa by Tina, Livia and Nonna;the spacious room with kitchen and patio to relax in; and the continued helpfulness of the family, were just a few of the other experiences. The recommendation that we dine at the only restaurant in the village - Bar Vittoria - was genuine, and we were not disappointed. My husband, a chef, was fascinated by the innovations that owner Carmine came up with and we dined 4 nights out of the 5 of our stay. Carmine and his wife Monica make their own pasta, wine, sausages and oil, and we had not tasted such tomatoes in many year.
