“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We have just returned from Sorrento & we stayed at the fantastic Conca Azzura Hotel. The food was magnificent, the views outstanding.
The staff became like family to us. Nothing was too much for them & they always had a smile. The room was spacious & the bed huge. The only disappointments were the tv only got BBC World News & CNN. Not good when all you wanted to do was 'Have a quiet night in'. Also the room lacked any coffee/tea making facilities.
Other that I wonder recommend this hotel to anyone.
A special mention also to our Tour Rep. Lucia. She was fantastic & extremely hard working throughout our stay to ensure we had the best possible time. Her knowledge of the local area was native like.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view the upper 2 floors have balconies whilst the bottom level has a small gard...

Myself and husband and another couple stayed at this hotel last year (Sept 2012- but the drop down menu only went as far back as nov 2012)- and it is a wonderful hotel and we had a fantasic holiday. (The transfer from the airport was advertised by our holiday provider as 40mins but it was actually about 2 hrs- I guess its 40 mins if you went by taxi instead of by coach and stopping at other hotels...but this was a fault of the holiday provider not the fault of the hotel)

This is beautiful, quiet and relaxing hotel to visit. The food is excellent, the staff are very friendly, and cocktails were made throughout the day and delivered to your table or sun lounger so you didn't even have to go to the bar...or even ask for a cocktail. Even branded drinks (Jack Daniels, Baileys etc..were included in the all inclusive price). This is a quiet hotel (entertainment was a singer with a keyboard who was only there 1 night- ideal for people who do not want the 'party scene' and want a good nights sleep ready for early morning trips. (For those looking for a hotel near pubs/ clubs or lots of entertainment while you drink- look at hotels in Sorrento itself)
Please note that at the time of our stay there were no lifts (and the stairs to the rooms are outdoors) so if you have a wheelchair request the ground floor.

We thoroughy enjoyed this beautifully located hotel. It is at the bottom of a very steep and winding road, but the hotel provided a free minibus service to and from Sorrento which was very useful.

Sorrento itself is a nice little town to visit. We booked excursions to Pompeii and Herculaneum which were incredible....and are sites that you can not find anywhere else in the world. Perfectly preserved town, houses, and even bodies....very surreal. I'd advise visiting these sites in a planned excursion as the sites are massive and the tour guides take you to the most well preserved or facinating sites are provide loads of interesting facts.

In summary-
Excellent place to have a quiet and relaxing holiday
Food is fab, cocktails by the pool, and not too far away for coach trip to Pompeii / Herculaneum.
We would love to go back some day.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean...and as the hotel has no nightly entertainment or disco the whole complex...

My expectations were high after reading reviews on here but to be honest the hotel service cocktails and food at the hotel was a bit dissapointing.
We requested the third floor one of us was on 2nd floor but others were on ground floor.
The rooms were clean.
The hottub was icecold couldnt use it.
The drinks were not free flowing as discribed by others often having to wait a long time for a drink. One waiter was really good but all the others seemed tight with the measures and seemed to give us the smallest glasses possible.
The food was quite standard most of the nights there were a few good meals but on the whole it was bland and not what I expected. We ate out a few nights and the food was soooooooooooo much better.
One of the minibuses was dodgy the back seat colapsed when going up the hill with 4 of us on it. I ended up sitting on the floor as it was not safe.
Had a amazing holiday and Sorrentto is stunning and easy to reach other places by bus and train but I would not go back to this hotel.
The shuttle service is good to get into sorrento but limited we did pay 25 eurios to get one back at a time that suited us one evening.

Now I admit to being disappointed with this hotel when we first arrived. Partly there's no doubt it was because it was raining at the time. Also though there is a lot of concrete (sunbathing area etc). However I can honestly say dont let that put you off.

The hotel is down a steep and winding road - as mentioned by others this is in itself an adventure.

The best things about this hotel are the food, the bar service and the staff. Special thanks to Fanco and Christian for making our stay so enjoyable. These things alone are enough to make a return visit worthwhile.

The location is also stunning and the minibus into Sorrento a great little service (though you need to book). From there its easy to get on a train to Pompeii (station is just over the road from the entrance) and Herculaneum (walk straight down the hill from the station and you'll get to the entrance). Plenty to see in Sorrento itself too.

The rooms are good and the bathroom is great (although the light is not great for makeup). There's also a decent hairdrier.

A couple of minor niggles - the hot tub wasnt full much of the time we were there and was most definately not hot (freezing) and the pool was only just being filled (and was FREEZING). That didnt stop us though and it was really early in the season when we were there.

Room Tip: I wouldnt have liked 101 - the ground floor rooms have a little garden each but that one is right on...

My wife and I planned a relaxing all inclusive week at the Sea Club resort from 6th - 13th September 2013 based on the excellent reviews here on TripAdvisor. The transfer from Napoli airport to the resort took just under 2 hrs so the welcome meal that was served was well received. I did call the hotel prior to our visit to request a room on the top floor only to find out that a ground floor room was already allocated. Given that the hotel was full, we had no option but to accept the room.

THE ROOM (We were allocated the ground floor room at the furthest end of the hotel).
Good points - the room was clean, spacious and the air conditioning worked (slightly noisy). The maid did a great job and tidied our room every day to a good standard. Good service and response to the maintenance issue we reported on the constantly filling toilet.
Room for improvement - there was a musty smell that seemed to prevail during our stay and we could not determine if this was due to the damp which was evident in the bathroom or something else. The decor in the room was plain but clearly needed a lick of paint. We did see some ants in the room but these seem to disappear once we annihilated the initial lot. The ground floor 'balcony' to the rear of the room was clearly not maintained and not ideal to spend relaxing time in due to the location next to the car park. The room was inconveniently located adjacent to the cleaners room and at 7.30am every morning, the cleaners would noisily unload the huge bags of towelling and bedding into the area immediately at the front of our room. The cleaners area was also the place where hotel staff would congregate for breaks which invaded our privacy whenever we used the bathroom!!

Overall, acceptable but in need of a little TLC and maintenance/refurbishment.

THE HOTEL & FACILITIES
Good points - the hotel is located in a secluded area with a limited number of rooms giving an air of exclusivity with stunning views of the sea from a great location (only two and a half miles from Sorrento). The dining areas were well laid out and the hotel provided a dedicated area with sunbeds for hotel guests only. Receptionists were more than helpful and assisted us on every request. Trips to Sorrento on the free shuttle bus were prompt and reliable (times are fixed and not that flexible). The journey is definitely not as nerve wracking as I expected, but the transport has to be better maintained. Free wifi is available in the reception area and immediate adjacent areas only and the lobby seating area is comfortable and relaxing.
Room for improvement - the weekend attracts the locals to the hotel so the pool was certainly overrun, but there are plenty of sun loungers to choose from if you want to be nearer the sea front. The entertainment comprised of a solo artist playing the guitar and keyboard which was hit and miss but overall, not a bad experience, just limited variety.

Overall, good but could improve on the food and drink selections.

FOOD, DRINK & SERVICE
Good points - The service was good and Franco, Francesco,Ramon, Mauro and David looked after us and provided an excellent level of service. The quality of the food and drink was mostly good and we always found something that suited our tastes (bar one night). The highlights are most definitely the lunchtime menu and the starter course in the evening, both of which offered more authentic italian fare, which the chefs are excellent at. We decided to stick to the beer, which was good, throughout our stay.......

Room for Improvement - The breakfast menu provides a good selection to suit all tastes but could be improved by having fresh coffee (instead of machine) and real orange juice and probably better quality bacon, sausages and beans!! The evening main course choices are very much geared towards the english palate and were both fixed menu and buffet style during the course of the week. Premium brand drinks didn't quite taste athentic enough and the wine selection is limited to one type unless you want to pay for an alternative.
Also, a more attentive service would have enhanced our stay. Often we would have to go to the lobby bar to place orders.

In summary, we enjoyed our break at the Conca Azzurra hotel and would certainly return to the resort of Massa Lubrense but not necessarily this hotel. Aside from needing some freshening up of the facilities and improving the menu, this is a good hotel for the price we paid. Do consider the location for accessibility to resorts such as Sorrento before you book. This is definitely not overpriced and met most of our expectations. Remember to take insect repellant with you as the mosquitoes definitely live up to expectations!

Room Tip: Ground floor room 101 is closest to the cleaners store room.....top floor room would have been our c...

I had done a lot of research in to this hotel on trip advisor and am happy to report that everything pretty much lived up to my expectations and some things exceeded them.
Wonderful staff who went out of their way to be friendly and super efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were a decent size with stunning views from the balcony. Our air con worked perfectly and was a welcome respite from the heat. One day the mini fridge was not re-stocked with water, but it wasn't an issue as we just grabbed a couple of bottles from the bar. Also our balcony was only cleaned once during the week we were there, but those are minor gripes.
The food was fantastic. I have stayed in many all inclusive hotels and it was great to have a la carte service at lunch time & the majority of nights instead of having the bun fight that can happen at buffet restaurants. It feels so much more civilised. I am not a huge pasta fan, but when in Rome & all that...I had several different types that were all fresh and delicious. The home made wafer thin pizzas were to die for and the whole sea bream we had for our last lunch was just amazing!
There were always plenty of sun beds in the garden area by the jacuzzi which was a nice peaceful area. You had regular waiter service for drinks in this area. You can also use the beach club sunbeds & pool which were open to the locals. It was nice to hear the local people chatting and really get a feel for being in Italy.
The grounds were clean and well kept, but make sure you take strong mozzy spray. The majority of guests did not escape a few bites from the little blighters. This seems to be normal for the Neapolitan Riviera from friends we had spoken to who had visited and also seeing other bite 'victims' whilst we were in Sorrento.
The shuttle bus was great. You can either go all the way to Sorrento or just to the top of the very long, very steep zig zagged hill to the main road. We walked to the Town of Massa Lubrense from the top of the hill. It took about half an hour. Parts of the road were a little scary as there were no footpaths. From the town centre we then walked to Marina del Lobra for lunch, which is a very pretty little fishing village with a few nice restaurants You can book the shuttles 2 days in advance, so if you have special plans, make sure you book as soon as you can.
We went in to Sorrento a couple of times and had lovely drinks in the Fauno Bar which was a great little people watching spot. Also we had pizza at Franco's one evening which was packed full of locals having cheap, but very authentic pizza served on plastic plates and beers served straight from the bottle or cheap, but very nice local vino. A great local experience.
We also got the ferry over to Capri (35 euros per person return) where we spent a full day discovering this beautiful little island. I had one of the best meals in my life at a restaurant called Da Tonino's there. A little off the beaten track, but I would happily do a 10 mile hike if I could eat there every day. I will be submitting a separate review about that. But Capri is a must!
All in all I would certainly return to this hotel in a heartbeat. Go there for the food, the service and the amazing local area with stunning sea views. If you are thinking of booking, just do it.

Room Tip: As others have said...top floor has best views. Bottom floor has a lovely garden area with sunbeds...

There is not much more I can add to the glowing reviews already about the Conca Azzurra. In summary the highlights are:
The food;
The staff;
The pool;
Swimming in the sea;
The water sports;
The location;
The access to some great days out;

In fact there is nothing I can find to really critise our holiday. It is fair point that the hotel would benefit from a lick of paint in the rooms and the air conditioning was not quite cool enough: but this type of thing does not make or break a holiday.

The shuttle service to Sorrento provided some great excitement, the road from the hotel to the main road is fraught with danger. During our stay the hotel helped organise our trip to Pompeii, organised suba diving for my daughter and I as well as providing equipment for watersports around the hotel.

Top of the list was food and staff, although we were pensive about going all inclusive we needn't have worried. Every day lunch and dinner was cooked freshly with a choice of meat, fish and a veggie option. Service was exceptional from all staff and they made a real effort to get to know all of the family.

Evenings were relaxed and with only 35 rooms you quickly got to know your fellow guests; evenings went too quickly chatting and working though the extensive cocktail list whilst the children played around the hotel grounds.

All in all as you can tell we had a great time. A week wasn't long enough to see everything the Amalfi coast has to offer, so we will break our golden rule. We have a long established family rule that the world is too big a place to return to the same place twice. We are already planning a return in 2015.
