“Good food & wine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012

We booked a table earlier in the day as the owner had spoken to use while we were reading the menu and we were greeted with enthusiasm when we arrived. We'd realised that the full Sicilian menu was too much for us and decided to go for main course and side orders. This was the only restaurant we visited during our week in Marsala that offered specials, and I chose Spaghetti con Sarde as we'd seen some sparklingly fresh sardines in the market. It was very good, with lovely pieces of fish and no bones. My friend had pasta with mullet and pistachio cream, also pretty good. The star of the the meal was the caponata: utterly divine melting aubergine, giant green olives and celery in a rich tomato paste. The owner was very chatty, helping us chose which Nero d'Avola to try (Cutaja from Carusa and Minini - delicious) and talking about his sons in London, but never while we were involved in the important matter of eating! A little on the expensive side at E50 but recommended for the welcome and food.

“Social owner and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

We visited the place during our first night in the city. We were very cordially seated. We ordered as "antipasti" bruschettas, which were very much ok, but nothing special. As a main course one of us had "risotto ai camberetti" , which was really delicious. To my opinion risotto is a real "benchmark" for an Italian restaurant. "Come dolci" we had strawberry sorbets, which also were really well made and tasty. The price tag to all of this for 4 persons with 1/4 of wine and 4 bottles of water and fanta was 96€. Is it much or not is up to one's budget.

“Traditional in a modern key, low value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011

In the middle of the old town just some 200 meters from the fascinating hotel Carmine, you will find this nice restaurant. The tables are well distributed there is a nice modern atmosphere. As a starter , I shosed "Bresaula di tonno" quite nice but too much oil in the salad alla julienne. The second course, "innvoltini di spada", innovative and quite good. I ordered some local white wine of the tap: not good at all. Do remember that we are in one of the Marsala district! You will most certainty be better of ordering wine in bottle, "Donna Fugata" or "Leone".
adding desert and some digestive the bill was 40 Euro. Tomorrow I will probably go else ware.

“Very nice Sicilian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2011

I found the place almost by accident while on a business trip to Marsala.
Typical family business, with the husband taking care of the tables and the wife enjoying her work in the kitchen (and not disdaining to chat with the customers whenever possible).
The food is consequently based on strictly Sicilian recipes, very nicely prepared and well served.
I had a pleasant mixed seafood appetizer and some very good pasta con le sarde. And then, for an unforgettable finish, a traditional cassata (without the frosting).
Very honest prices. Recommended
