“Good Hotel, great town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2008

The hotel is good, clean, efficient and priced appropriately. The food is good but the restaurants in the town are great ( Restaurant Alex especially) that it would be a shame to miss them. We were half board but ate out 4 out of 7 nights. The restaurant manager (Marco) was exceptionally good, nothing was too much trouble and it seemed like he was running the hotel on some days. The waiters also deserve a mention for great service. There is nothing very special about the hotel itself apart from the restaurant staff, but then again if its just a base for going to the beach or travelling that you need then this is fine.
It costs 15 Euro on the private beach for 1 bed, 2 deck chairs and an umbrella, this is quite costly but comparable to others in the area. Overall the town is very relaxed and has a great atmosphere. The people are very welcoming and friendly. It is worth hiring a car to explore the area as, apart from the beach there is very little to do during the day.

  • Liked — Restaurant staff and cleaning staff were excellent. The location is great
  • Disliked — It can be a bit regimented and is a bit out of the town for disabled or elderly people to walk to

Stayed four nights on this hotel with my daughter and wife and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are clean, the food is good, the staff is very nice. The hotel has a nice pool and is situated only 300 m from a very good beach. The little town of Marina di Pietrasanta is beautiful and quiet, but have one street with restaurants and bars, enough to give you a little nightlife-feeling. I strongly recommend the hotel and location.

Our group arrived at this hotel very late, due to the traffic on Autostrada 1, and the chef stayed up so we could have dinner, at 10 p.m., which we really appreciated. Hotel is spotless, like new, my room, though a single, was very clean and comfortable, with nice bathroom, all the fittings look new. The dining room was large and provided a good selection for breakfast and dinner. I didn't like all the courses offered, but that is just personal taste. I didn't like the coffee, which is what the Italians drink - espresso - and you couldn't have capuccino unless you paid extra for it, which I thought was rather pennypinching. But the staff are all very friendly, from the cleaners to waiters. Marina di Pietrasanta is a lovely place, yes I know they have rows of regimented sunbeds etc., but it looks like the sand has just been laid down there, it is so clean, the promenade is wide and beautiful, and the shopping area, is good during the day, but comes to life at night, with little bars and cafes, Italian families with their children, all completely safe, and you feel if you left your purse behind, someone would run after you to return it. I felt completely safe walking back to the hotel alone.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and location
  • Disliked — The coffee - would have been nice to have had something more to British taste.

The problem with reviews is that one man's meat is another man's poison... :)

We just got back today from staying a week at the Hotel Venezia on a B&B basis (with two sorties into the dining roof for an evening meal) and we were both very sorry to leave the hotel and the area.

The hotel is perfectly situation in our opinion. It takes only ten minutes to walk to the shopping and restaurant areas, where there are some seriously nice restaurants (pricey but good)... there are Pizza restaurants naturally... all good.

The reason why it was so perfect is because we didn't particurly want to see the regimented private beach areas from our bedroom window, preferring to see trees and mountains instead. From the roof of this hotel, which is the tallest at only five floors you can see the Med on one side and the most gorgeous mountains behind you... We fell in love with the area... Parasol Pines grow everywhere, providing the perfect screening...

The Italians love children and because of Siesta's their children tend to stay up quite late... The town is busy in the morning... all shops close at 1.00pm till 3.30-4.00pm... and the town comes alive at 8.00pm... the area is very safe for all, no rowdy kids... just a wonderful way of life...

Specifics about the hotel...

Breakfast caters very much for Italians and Germans... and is NOT an extensive buffet. I wish there could have been fresh fruit and juice.

The breakfast buffet consists of:
Fruit; (daily alternating between tinned fruit salad , tinned peaches or prunes).
Two flavours of yoghurt; (unsweetened natural or strawberry)
Cereal; (a kind of cornflake, muesli, choc rice krispies (i think) and grape nuts).
Bread; (Croissants, White breakfast rolls or thick slices of brown kind of bread) and the usual small packets of butter, preserves and honey.
A small selection of cheese, ham and sausage.
I cannot recall there being orange juice, only a sort of grapefrut juice and another fruit type drink.
The staff will happily provide a fresh boiled egg on request and they are perfectly cooked... seriously good eggs!

My advice would be if you are travelling with young children who like a particular breakfast cereal then take some with you... there is plenty of milk available.

The coffee at breakfast is very, very nice but much stronger than an average Brit would like... copious amounts of coffee and steamed milk, in two separate jugs, arrive at the table...

After about three days we were a tad bored with breakfast and that is virtually my only criticism of the hotel.

The two evening meals we had were okay... If you have been to Italy before then you will know that they have different courses to us.

Antipasto:
Usually consisting of a choice of mixed salad, a bowl of grated carrots, tomatoes, and either tinned mushrooms or beans.
There is a very good supply of oils, vinegars and other flavourings to make your own dressing

First Course:
Choice of two pasta dishes or a soup.
Unsurprisingly this was unique every evening and pleasant although the pasta was not al dente but a bit overcooked... this was a bit disappointing.

Second Course:
A choice of three meals
The choices normally were a meat dish, a fish dish or a cold dish. The fish dishes were disappointing and the cold dish usually was the more tasty and fresh.

Dessert:
Ice cream, Peach Melba (tinned peaches again but nice all the same) or cheese (dolcallette and parmesan)

The hotel does have an extensive wine list catering for all budgets.

The 'American Bar', adjacent to the pool, provides snacks and icecream. We ordered a sandwich one lunchtime and it was very small for the cost. The bar's alcohol stock is somewhat limited also but they still conjure up a very nice Pina Colada :)

That is the minor negatives out of the way... and seriously, they are minor when taking everything else into consideration...

The pool is the cleanest one we have ever seen and although not large, has a jaccuzzi element at one end and a major pump for pummelling yourself with at the other end. The whole pool area is kept immaculately clean... you will be very happy to have your children play there... quite a few ants but then isn't there everywhere?

The hotel bedrooms are also kept very clean, the bathrooms the same. There are free room safes in all rooms but I left the odd piece of jewellery and cash out and nothing was ever taken by the cleaners... which brings me to the staff... they are charming and so very, very helpful... nothing is too much trouble. We got a parking ticket on our last day and they filled in the documentation, told us what to do and even offered to take the money and pay the fine on our behalf at the post office the next day... and we would have trusted them to have done it too... We went down and payed it ourselves for the experience. Never have we met such kind and courteous hotel staff.

We would certainly visit this hotel again, for its location, the friendliness of all the staff, the pool, and the cleanliness of the hotel. If your budget will stand it then I really recommend eating out in the evening... the ambience is so very worth it.

One very important element, if you are hiring a car... the hotel provides free parking, which many hotels in the area charge daily for (around 15 Euros a day which soon mounts up).

The hotel gates are locked every night and consequently the car park is very secure. A 24 hour manned front desk soon rescues you if you stay out quite late...

All in all - Marina Di Pietrasanta is a lovely and relaxing area to visit... for all ages...

Ciao ;-)
