Hotel Villa Barsanti is a clean, well managed hotel a short walk from the beach and promenade. The food, location, and service are excellent. In fact, the food was amazing--fresh, local and homemade. You get the sense that you are part of the family, and the chef is cooking just for you. The hotel is three blocks from the beach. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are a decent size. The balconies and patios are a nice touch and great for the Tuscan summers. You'll see great vegetation and flowers as you walk to the beach or to a local cafe.
If you want to visit Italy, but you dont want your neighbor's experience, visit places like Pietrasanta. The town is situated along the Italian Riviera and has the history, churches, cafe's, restaurants, and beaches that make Italy one of the most beautiful and memorable places on earth. Pietrasanta is no Amalfi Coast or Rome, but unlike the Amalfi coast and Rome, in Pietrasanta, you will actually be among vacationing Italians and Europeans. The beaches do get crowded during the peak months.
