“Excellent if you are not disabled”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

My wife, who uses a wheelchair, and I returned last week from a weeks stay at Hotel Esplanade.
The hotel is excellently located for the beach, restaurants and shops. We cannot fault the friendliness of the staff or the choice and quality of food available for breakfast or dinner.
We requested a room with a walk-in shower which meant that we had to have a family room, with a price higher than a normal room. The room, however, was fine and spotlessly clean.
Unfortunately the room was on the second floor which meant taking the lift. Although the wheelchair we took is an ordinary fold-up type it would not fit into the lift without my wife getting out and the chair being folded. This process took a while as my wife cannot walk without assistance.
Another inconvenience was the fact that the ramp from the hotel to the street was far too steep and slippery to use. On two occasions I had assistance from fellow guests to go up and also to go down the ramp. Going up was impossible whilst on the downward trip the man who kindly helped us did , in fact, injure his leg. The lady at reception said that they would assist but I do not think they would have coped any better.
To be fair to the hotel they did not claim to have any disabled amenities. Unlike most other countries Italy does not appear to particularly cater for disablement. We had contacted several other hotels in the town without success and also contacted the local tourist board who didn't favour us with a reply. This is a great pity because the town and area are wonderful attractive venues.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

We have just returned from a week at the glorious Esplanade. We have been regular visitors to this coastline usually in Viareggio at the Grand and Royal. After a terrible time with poor food there last year, we decided to try Marina Di Pietrasanta and were guided by Tripadvisor to the Esplanade.
We have at last discovered a hotel which takes you back to traditional excellence in food and service. Every meal was an adventure and the food is outstanding in taste and preparation. Luca and his staff run an expert team, similar to top hotels in London. Effortless and attentive service. We were delighted. Lovely breakfast on the terrace.
Our room facing front was large, modern and cool. Excellent bathroom all refitted to a high standard. Housekepping superb. Kettle and tea/ coffee in the room
A fridge with mini bar if needed.
A safe. All the amenities of a higher grade hotel.
The location is without equal. Opposite the beach, the pier, the shopping and promenade area. Close to everything.
To my knowlede, there were no other English guests at the hotel, so do not come here expecting other Brits! We will be learning Italian for next year. So many lovely and interesting guests to meet.
We did a beach package at Sirena beach opposite. Yes it is expensive if you want a gazebo, but all of this made for an outstanding beach holiday. We spent morning and afternoon on the beach and either had lunch at Sirena, or usually, took an excellent full board lunch at the Esplanade.
The reception staff are without doubt the most helpful and friendly team. Car parking is tight and off street parking very very expensive. You do not actually need a car for the resort, only to get here. We kept ours in it's space for the week! A good idea may be for the hotel to offer some parking permits for the street parking at a better rate.
We enjoyed the gala dinner with pre drink. Fabulous barbeque on the roof.
We did not use the roof terrace during the day, or the grass area in front of the hotel. We would have liked some swing seats on this area and a piano bar on the roof or terrace would be wonderful.
So, a five star holiday in all respects. We cannot wait to return. Thank you Esplanade. Arrivederci. Al prossimo anno.

Tuscany is a weird place, not always up to the beauty around.

this hotel is fairly priced, very week-positioned on the promenade, management is very careful and smiling, my room with a view had very recently restored bathroom, which is very ice for a 3 star hotel

This hotel is well located and has some great views of the sea and the mountains. It is generally a very good place for families. We recommend that you request a renovated room with a view and also reserve for the super barbecue on the roof-top terrrace. It is interesting to note that Italian families are omnipresent here as opposed to foreigners. There are a number of very good eateries (and other shops) on a strip behind the hotel. Well worth the visit! The employees at the hotel are very nice.

I stayed at the Esplanade recently and highy recomend it . What a super hotel! Location is second to none smack in the centre of Tonfono and straight accross the road from the beach and the new pier. Staff are professional and friendly. I was amazed at the standard of food served in the restaurant, great value for money. Dont miss the roof top terrace, a great place to relax, take in the views and soak in the hot tub, fantastic! I'll be back to stay here again and again.
