“Good Value Option off Venice Island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Due to availibility problems we had to split our Venice stay between two hotels just off Venice Island. Having stayed the night before at the Novotel Mestre the Mercure Marghera turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. We arrived to check in very early as we didn't want to waste too much of our day changing hotels and were greeted by the friendly reception manager who advised that although the rooms were not yet available we were welcome to check in, (our allocated room numbers etc were provided and noted on our luggage for later reference) leave our luggage there and lock our valuables in a safe box whilst we spent the day sightseeing. He also directed us to the nearby bus stop where we could use the transport pass we had purchased the day before. When we returned later that night after our day sightseeing and dinner we were also very impressed with the rooms which were large and well set out. The bathroom was also very large, well set out and modern with a really good sized bath and everything else you could possibly need. Instead of the usual little soaps there was liquid soap in a dispenser provided for both the basin and shower. I felt this was a much better idea. The beds were really comfortable with good quality pillows - something you don't always find at hotels. The aircon also worked well. Breakfast was also a better standard than we had experienced at both the Novotel Mestre and also the Novotel in Florence. I had some problems with the foyer computer and the staff were really helpful and quickly solved the issue for me. Comparing the 2 hotels( Novotel Mestre and Mercure Marghera) we stayed in whilst visiting Venice the Mercure is by far the superior hotel for a number of reasons - Firstly the price per night was much cheaper, the rooms were bigger and more comfortable, the breakfast more enjoyable, service was good at both but from my experence at the Mercure was that the staff there were more helpful overall, nothing was faulty in the rooms at the Mercure( this may be because it was newer than the Novotel) and the public transport available from the Mercure stop to and from Venice Island was available later at night. Given all of this I would definately stay at the Mercure next time I was visiting Venice.

I spent one night in this hotel before to sail for a cruise. I paid £40.00 for 1 night breakfast included.
For what I paid I couldn' expect any better. Breakfast was simply and lovely.
The bus stop to reach Venice city center is only 5 mins walking distance.
The only thing that I want to make you aware is that they don't have 24hr room service so if you are landing in Venice with a late flight, grab something in the airport.

A very short walk from the Hotel is the bus stop and a quick bus ride lasting no more that 30mins gets one into the heart of Venice and the river boat stops.

Nice modern clean rooms with TV and the restaurant provides a very good buffet for breakfast catering for continental and UK style breakfasts.

The most disappointing thing was the companys' are moving on with ebe

All the information on Tripadvisor was what has assisted me in choosing this hotel so I can only add to the great reviews on here already. Travelling with seven family members ranging in age from 19 months to 71 years, in a mini-bus, as part of a tour of northern Italy, we needed somewhere close to Venice with parking and good accessibility. This hotel was just perfect for our requirements and ticked all the boxes for us, a great breakfast, comfy rooms, excellent local and city knowledge, perfect English. They have a cute kids play area which is great but I was surprised they only had one high-chair, but was assured further high chairs would be purchased!

A couple of tips for those who book the hotel. It is a little tricky to find if you have sat-nav, best to follow the clear signs the hotel have put up. Also the bus (no.6) into Venice is very convenient, less than a five minute walk from the hotel on Via Trieste, but on your return when you get the bus from Piazzale Roma just be aware that when the bus arrives to let people off, some way back from the actual stop, everyone boards the bus then! Don't be like us and be left standing at the stop and then not able to get on : (.

Room Tip: Although the hotel is situated at a very busy roundabout the rooms are triple glazed. I regularly ha...

We stayed for 3 nights in the hotel and after arriving at the airport I had done a google on what the price in a tax should be 24 euro but it was 55 euros for a 15 min cab ride. On the way to the airport we caught a public number 15 bus which was 6 euros each and a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Rooms were nice clean and good value for money, however there isn't much around you for dinner unless you want to eat at the hotel. We found a pizza place which was a 10 minute walk one night and had the buffet another night.

The number 6 bus is a 5 min walk and you can buy tickets from the tobacconist, however we got caught catching the 6/ bus home which after running for the bus home from Venice which ended up in a dodgy area. After hopping off the bus realising it was going further out and had a 35 min to the hotel after using google maps to get us there, so be aware if you are going to catch the bus.

When we walked about Venice we did see a lot of people struggling with their luggage so you have to toss up what is better, for the money you got much more in this hotel then what you would in the centre of Venice.

We stayed in this hotel in mid-September 2013 for three nights. The hotel is clean, efficient but a long way from Venice. Catching the bus is easy after a five minute walk. We could not purchase tickets from the hotel but instead from a small tobacconist on the walk to the bus stop. When the shop is closed on Sunday tickets can be bought on the bus but are slightly more expensive. Journey time was about 20 minutes. Beware when returning from Venice to only catch service 6, not 6/ or you will end up in a shopping mall (as did we the first time!).

The restaurant is good but it is expensive. The hotel caters for tour groups and at breakfast this can be chaotic. As vegetarians we found the menu pretty sparse and the smell of fish in the restaurant is all pervasive.

Rooms are well equipped but ours belied its All Seasons heritage and the decor was a bit sixties. Shower only, but pretty powerful. No views - from the front rooms only of a petrol station and the motorway - but it wasn't noisy.

Room Tip: High floor for quietness, but don't expect a view.
