“Fine location, nice proprietors, improvements needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

The hotel is on a relatively isolated headland from which the bedrooms overlook the small private beach at the bottom of a steep path. From the dining room terrace we enjoyed magnificent sunsets over Corsica and a 180 degree view of the sea. From the hotel paths lead to another more popular and accessible cove and along the coast and inland. The dinner is OK (we were on a half pension deal), but even better à la carte. The proprietors and those who work there are pleasant and helpful. However, the rooms (or at least ours and another we saw) are beginning to show their age. As the mattresses rest on wood planks, I found the bed too hard to sleep on (and had to find a cushion to protect my hip). There are no mosquito nets; and no way to keep insects out of the bathroom. There also some mean touches: half broken plastic shop coat hangers (as IKEA wooden ones are so cheap, there is no longer a reason to skimp on these). At breakfast, you have to pay extra to get real coffee, the fruit juices are the ersatz supplied by cheap hotel chains, and the jams are factory products in small pre-packed portions. In Italy one expects better.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms on level with restaurant have their own balconies, whereas you enter the rooms below...

The only good thing about this place is the location high above the ocean at the western tip of Elba near Sant'Andrea. Still, the location alone does not compensate all the negative aspects, such as
- primitive room (uncomfortable bed, furniture looks like a teenager room from the early seventies, no pictures just a fire escape plan on the wall) and bathroom (miniture), super clairaudient!
- The terraces (in itself nice with a nice view onto the ocean) have no privacy since the sides to the neighborings terraces are open, no good to relax with everybody else watching and listening.
- terrible Restaurant with waiting room asmosphere, way too bright neon lights and disturbingly loug humming ice cream counter (the humming never stops)
- unfriendly / unintestrested / owners who spend the day sleeping in front of the TV, obvioulsly feeling disturbed by guests coming to the reception
- Food ranges from solala to terrible, side dish (vegetable out of the bag) has been served ice cold on all three nights.
- English spoken only between 3.00 pm - 10.00 pm (by one ermployee), otherwise bad luck! No German at all to my knowledge.

The pictures on the internet are deceiving, there is a reason why the bathrooms are not shown anywhere...

It seems cheap (60 € p.P./N incl. half board but considering the nasty food and terrible rooms it's not even worth half this price!
There are much better options in Sant'Andrea which are just slightly more expensive, so don't waste your time and money at the Hotel Oleandro

My boyfriend and I went here in July 2013 not knowing what to expect and we had a fantastic time. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for to have a romantic weekend. The beach was private, the food delicious, and the staff were very accommodating. I can't wait to come back someday to Elba Island, and when I do I want to stay here.

The hotel offers Bed & Breakfast or Half Board accommodation. In the morning our breakfast is served inside or on the panoramic terrace during the warmer months with a rich buffet. For dinner our kitchen offers genuine mediterranean dishes with fresh fish and meat and the choice between 3 starters, 3 main dishes, 2 side dishes and deserts.
