“Great family-run hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2010

My wife and I stayed for 4-5 days at Hotel Castello in September. We highly recommend it for several reasons:

1. Location - The hotel is directly on Lake Garda with its own beach and only a 5 minute walk to the stores and restaurants of Malcesine or the tram to the top of Mount Baldo (highly recommended - especially on a clear day). Views from the hotel balconies out over the lake are spectacular.

2. Rooms - We stayed in 2 separate types of rooms. For the first few days, we stayed in the newer wing of larger, nicer rooms. These directly faced the lake and the room design was extremely clean and modern. We loved these rooms. The last night, we moved to an older room in another wing. It was much smaller and had not been re-modeled in some time. It was fine - nothing to complain about, nothing to write home about. If you can afford the nicer rooms, they are much, much nicer.

3. Staff - All of the staff were pleasant, funny, patient and helpful. Clearly a family operation. Nice to support the family.

4. Food - We ate breakfast and dinner here multiple times. It was pretty good and the dining room faced directly out to the lake.

All in all, we had a great experience and really do recommend the hotel to any visitors to Malcesine.

Last year we stayed in Malcesine in a beautiful room in a hotel with a view from Heaven. However, we were not over-impressed with some other aspects of the hotel, especially the food and the general atmosphere. We could not get the same room to fit in with our touring holiday this year, so we looked on tripadvisor for opinions of other hotels. we contacted 3 hotels, and quickly decided on the Castello.

This is truly a family-run hotel and we were warmly greeted, both in the car park and at the reception desk. We were delighted with our very comfortable premium deluxe room with a spacious bathroom and two balconies overlooking the garden and the lake. The view is gorgeous and we would rate it one of the best ever if we had not had the view at the other hotel last year.

And joy! the food (as stated by tripadvisor reviewers) was very good indeed. We ate in every night, rather than having to go out to expensive restaurants as we did last year. The service was excellent - efficient and very friendly. Breakfast could not have been better, either.

The hotel is very centrally located, but also very peaceful. Parking was easy and there were plenty of spaces. There are plentiful sunbeds, and the lake bathing looked fun. Unfortunately the weather was not totally brilliant, but this did not spoil our stay. We had a very long walk along the lakeside path towards Riva - just take wet-weather gear with you in case! We managed to go on the cable-car to the top of Monte Balde on a beautiful sunny day, and again had a great walk up there. It was useful having a hotel so near to the cable car station.

another day we took advantage of the discount vouchers from the hotel to take the boat right down the lake to Sirmione. This was fun, although a long journey (we paid a small extra premium for a high-speed service - well worth it). We liked Sirmione, but not as much as Malcesine which is more laid-back with more reasonably-priced shops! And, more importantly, not only is the scenery very much superior at the northern end of the lake, but Malcesine does have the glorious Monte Baldo. (it also has two world-class model car shops, if that is the sort of thing that interests you). There is even a bit of culture with not only the castle itself, but the concerts that are held there.

All the hotel staff were consistently friendly, warm and helpful. no problem or enquiry seemed to be a bother. We truly felt valued as guests and recognised as individuals.

Would we stay there again? You bet! Thank you Hotel Castello, and thank you TripAdvisor!

Myself and my new husband are just back from our honeymoon where we had the good fortune to stay in Hotel Castello for three nights. We booked in online before we left and so we didn't know what to expect, albeit we hoped for the best given that this was a very special holiday....and, we were not dissappointed in any way. The hotel was right on the lake - it couldn't have been closer!! Although it wasn't quite warm enough for a swim when we went (mid October) it was easy to imagine how glorious it would be during warmer months to just step outside your hotel room and take a dip from the private hotel beach. All rooms seemed to overlook the lake with stunning views. We were given the Miralago Suite which was huge, had a big terrace and a seriously comfortable bed. The place was spotless and the food was gorgeous - so much so, that I had gone there wanting to eat in the town two of the three nights but we ended up eating in the restaurant two of the three nights instead. It was lovely. What really makes this hotel quite special though is the staff - everybody was so warm and it was quite apparent that this was a family run business where everyone took pride and pleasure in their work. Special mention must go to Matteo at reception who was so accommodating and just an all round lovely guy and the owner who would visit each table at dinner time to make sure everyone was happy - a lovely touch that you don't find many places nowadays. This hotel is a gem. And, given how great this place was we expected to have to pay a premium and couldn't believe our final bill which was the best value we experienced on our 18 day honeymoon travelling around Italy. I would highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

We spend a Mid-October week at the hotel to explore Lake Garda. The hotel is ideally located in the friendly little town of Malcesine, directly at the lake front and in the shadow of the castle with beautiful view of the lake and the city of Limone at the Westside of the lake. The hotel is spotlessly clean, great breakfast buffet. The Treccani family takes care of every little detail, the staff in the restaurant always friendly. The half-board menu from chef Claudio (with choice of six first and six second courses plus starter, dessert and great salad buffet and extensive choice of wines) simply delicious. Parking (in the large parking garage) and high speed internet (in the room and throughout the hotel) is free. The only little minus for us were the beds, the mattress was too hard for us.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 wonderful days and were so impressed with the staff, its family run and it shows, the service was great, attentive, warm and welcoming!! Breakfast was a mini feast and you should make time for a nap after! (they also serve Prosecco at breakfast!) The hotel is on the lake and at the edge of the town which means you get the best of both!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the service was faultless. This coupled with superb food and very comfortable rooms ensured that we had a holiday to remember. Without hesitation we would recommend it to all our friends

This was our fourth holiday to Lake Garda & our first at Hotel Castello, after experiencing the total joy of our stay this year how I wish we had used this hotel previously. The owners and staff alike are superb and really do care about their guests. If you decide to stay at this hotel and you should! Make sure you stop full board as the dining is superb also the wine choice is excellent. The location is heaven, I love the lake and you are just a few meters away from it at the foot of the old castle.A few people have objected to the lack of a pool, why would anyone need a pool when the lake is at the bottom of the hotel garden! It is such a fantastic experience swimming around the foot of the castle and a fantastic way to view the surroundings from the waterline. As we always travel to Italy on our Harley Davidson it is great to be totally spoilt when we arrive and we were! Without a doubt this holiday was better than our three previous visits put together. We definately intend to stay again this next year and so should you!
