“Clean but dated. Not 4*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012 via mobile

Many of the advantages & negatives have already been pointed out & I read them before booking a 2 week stay with Thomson. This is rated Italian 4* but that must have been many years ago. More akin to UK or IRL 3*. Very dated stair carpet. Only found out how to switch on air conditioning in bedroom on 2nd day (only operates part of 24hrs). Hard bed and pillows but cleaners were able to provide a softer one. Very clean throughout. Pool on rooftop is like a child's paddling pool. Special offer of 5 Euro a day for private beach across the main road. Breakfast buffet was fine but only one coffee machine & toaster so queues formed. Head waiter was very efficient and recommended wines. Plenty of choice for dinner 2 courses fish/meat/vegetarian & choice of 2 desserts and waiter service. We asked for a jug of tap water with ice and it was provided instead of bottles costing 3 Euro. There are other 4* hotels nearby on seafront which might prove a better choice and better value. Opportunities for excursions to Amalfi, Portafino, Minori, Ravello and further afield eg Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Paestum. But you need to get used to the twists and turns of the coast road!

We stayed here for a week (28 Sept - 5 Oct 2012) with my wife's parents on half-board accommodation in en-suite sea view rooms with balconies. The hotel interior was modern, clean and well presented. The hotel reception staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful and spoke good english - unlike our very limited italian! The reception area has two lounges, a small and large lounge with modern, bright, comfortable settee's. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable and included two complimentary bottles of water in the small fridge. Our rooms also had a 32'' flat screen satelite TV and the view from our balconies was sublime!
Breakfast was served on the Roof Terrace (5th/top floor) with stunning views of the sea and part of the Amalfi coast road winding its way towards the nearby neighbouring coastal town of Minori with the breathtaking vista of villages nestling on the mountain slopes that dominate this region of south-west Italy. The same views at night fall takes on a special luminous magic of its own! Dinner in the main restaurant on the 1st floor was a wonderful experience. All the restaurant staff, not least our table waiter Pasquale, were friendly, helpful and very professional and the food itself was 5 star!! It was a delight to read the varied evening menus as we arrived at our table with varied and creative dishes which were always presented to a very high standard.
The weather during our stay was several degrees warmer than the average for the time of year, up to 30-31c most days so we were thankful for the air conditioning in our rooms at night!
Locally there are a number of good-looking restaurants/pizzerias and Maiori has a long, tree-lined promenade directly in front of the hotel and a small marina just a few minutes walk away which offers a great view and photo-shoot of the sea front hotels against the back-drop of the lush mountain slopes.
Minori is just a 20-25 minute walk from the hotel along the winding coast road and is well worth a visit, not least because of its own local history e.g. well preserved roman villa and bath and Santa Trofimena church.
Wi Fi was available throughout the hotel but the signal strength varied from 'poor' in our room (4th floor) to 'very good' on the roof terrace and reception lounge areas. Our only real criticism related to the absent 'Sky' and film channels after 2 days. When I enquired at reception about this, I was told by a gentleman that unfortunately the hotel Sky contract ran from the start of the summer season (April?) and ended 30 September. This appears to be a cost issue for the hotel but given that the hotel is open for business until 31 October each year, surely the broadcasting contract could be extended for a further month?
Because of this, we had to be content with BBC World News & Euro News as the only english language broadcasting for the remainder of our stay. (Although we had our ipad and laptop pc, we were unable to access our sky player or other UK broadcast facility, which is a matter for the politicians and service providers)
Despite the issue with TV broadcasting, our stay at this hotel was absolutely fantastic!! Would we stay here or recommend this hotel to others? Absolutely YES!!

This hotel lived up to all our expectations and more! The food was excellent and they were very attentive to my Gluten Free diet. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only negative aspect of this hotel is it's location!!!! We had planned to drive around the Amalfi coast but that is definitely not to be recommended unless you have nerves of steel!!!!!!

Room Tip: Request a balcony room at the front. We were given one without asking but other guests weren't s...

We stayed in September 2012 for ten days. The Hotel has a nice 'Retro' 1960's feel with spacious rooms and great sea views. The staff are attentive, the rooms immaculate and the food superb. The hotel is very well placed for walking-and suits all abilities from a saunter along the promenade on the level, to a hike in the mountains and villages.

Room Tip: If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Italian life choose a room at the back of the hotel-ot...

The hotel is in a great location just across the road from the beach. We were in a room with a sea view for which we paid extra. The room was big and very clean. The bed was hard, the furniture (two chairs with cushion pads) uncomfortable and fridge did not close properly. It needs general updating. The shower was very basic with plastic shower curtain and at certain times the water was only lukewarm. The furnished balcony had just two deck chairs but it was nice to sit out in the evening and admire the lights and watch the waves break on the shore. It also had lots of ants which were in the room too. This was an interconnecting room and we could hear quite clearly the conversations of the people staying there. There was a good selection for breakfast but the hot offering which included streaky bacon and fried potatoes was very greasy and seemed like it had been reheated. The reception staff were efficient and helpful for the most part. The waiting staff in the restaurant and staff at breakfast terrace were extremely unfriendly and unwelcoming. I did not see a smile the whole time I was there. It is important to greet people, especially paying guests. The staff need proper training in how people in the hospitality business should treat their guests. Their unfriendly manner would certainly put me off returning there and it is not something I have encountered at other Italian hotels.

My friend & I have spent the last 2 weeks here & we have found the staff to be very helpfull & friendly. We were central to all the amenities & across the road to the beach.
The room was adaquate, the bathroom was somewhat dated. The hotel was very clean & tidy.
The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety, the only downside was that there was only 1 coffee machine which always led to a queque.
The evening meal was second to none with a very good choice each night. The service was very prompt at every sitting & nothing was too much bother to the most friendly staff.
The views from our balcony were stunning & to wake up every morning to the sound of the sea was amazing.
All in all i would highly recommend this hotel for any age.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must.

I have spent two weeks in this hotel and have been impressed by the quality of the food and the staff. The receptionists are always smiling, welcoming and eager to assist. The bar staff and restaurant staff work extremely hard and are professional. The rooms are cleaned daily by staff who are friendly and helpful. The hotel is gradually being refurbished but this does not retract from the quality of food and service. Yes there is waiter service in the restaurant of an evening but this is excellent and even if you do wait between courses this is good for the digestion and is the 'Italien way' which I particularly enjoy as there is nothing better than to relax and enjoy good food and wine. Breakfasts are buffet style and are excellent but an additional coffee making machine would enhance the service. I did not find this a problem however as I am a tea drinker
