“Fine hotel in a skier's paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

Previous reviewers are divided in their opinions. I am with those positively disposed. May be due to the term of our stay (end of March), in spite of having a front room, we could not compain about any noise in the night.
Room (219) was spacy enough for two and spotlessly clean. Towerls were changed not daily but after every use and beds were done twice - in the morning and during the dinner!
A great advantege was food. It was Italian cooking at its best. Breakfast was normal but at the dinner you should be careful. There is such a choice of very tasty snacks that it is easy to take too much and then, after coping with soup/pasta and the main dish, be left at the end withthe sad choice - either to be overfed or to resign from a delicious dessert.
Hotel is very well situated. For skiers ca 100m from the 5 Laghi gondola station or 50m from the skibus stop. Skibus stops then at the entrance of the Groste gondola station (8 min drive) on the right, or crossing the road, on the left, at the starting point of the Pradalso lift.
Madonna is a skier/s paradise.
For beginners there is a vast (biggest in Alps?) gentle slope of 4800m in the upper part of Groste (+3 bars to rest). For advanced there is a choise of red pistes everywhere and for experts a really steep Spinale Direttissima and a number of other black runs at interconnected Pinzolo or Mairleva. Everything in easy reach.
And for buyers, Savoia is surrounded with shops of every kind. Some offer a real bargaing as a chinchilla jacket for just 10000Euro!

We stayed at the Savoia
Palace in Jan 13 and had a wonderful holiday, the hotel had great charm, fantastic staff and superb food. On the strength of this stay we decided to return this year with our son. We visited in Jan,understanding that the hotel had new management. The hotel seemed to have very few guests and was very quiet until the latter part of the week when it was taken over by the Winter motoring marathon organising team. Our room was fine, quite large with a separate room for our son, however there were several missing light bulbs, which weren't replaced. Breakfast was moved into the bar, which was fine , the choice was pretty good but on three days when there were very few guests they didn't,t provide hot options, and no explanation.juice and coffee now provided in machines which both had days when they wouldn't,t work. Dinner was on the whole good, we were never hungry but like breakfast on the quiet days no starter buffet and very limited salad. Main courses could have been warmer. Last year the puddings had been amazing, lots of choice and plenty to serve everyone. This year, one choice or a selection of dry biscuits , not appetising and very disappointing. One real positive are the hotel staff who were outstanding and made us feel very welcome, top marks to them.
Madonna offers fantastic skiing to which we will return but sadly the Savoia Palace, which we had recommended to many friends after our first visit, would not be our choice of hotel. I think their four star rating is sadly no longer a true reflection of the service they provide to their guests.

Now under new management there have been a few changes- some good- some not so good.

1. Ski room revamped- much better though where the boots are kept it is still very narrow. A new ski storage rack where the children's play room used to be. However, still an awful walk from the ski room to the street squeezing between cars with there engines running from the next door garage. Disappointing the ski boot rack -supposed to be heated did not appear to work when there were only a few in the hotel but was fixed the next week when the hotel was full. Coincidence I am sure.....
2. breakfast now in the room next to the bar. This is OK but did not like the coffee machine where you had to help yourself. The drinks service has gone. These aspects are what used to make it a 4 star hotel.
3. Staff in the restaurant still very good. ( the serve at table stopped 2 years ago). However the starter buffet and dessert buffet did not appear when there were only about a dozen in the hotel. Reappeared when the hotel was full. It used to be that you had the same service no matter how many were in the hotel. Food as good as usual ( I think the same chef). One disappointing new feature is that the buffet items are not replenished well. Had to ask for salad and starters when they had been ravaged. When the desserts were gone then for most of them that was it. Before no matter what time you came in for dinner you had the same choice.
4. Bar much more lively. Prices much more realistic than before. Meant that you could afford to drink there. The bar revamped with the old window room now sporting lounge and bar furniture.
5. Free internet access in bar and foyer area. Well done Savoia.
6. A bit sorry to see the flat Italian towels in the room go but I expect few other guests liked them. Rooms now have duvets instead of blankets etc- bonus
7. New pictures in the foyer- really odd choice for a ski hotel-brightly coloured modern art urgh
Still good position for the 5 Laghi lift and right in the centre

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are quieter as the noise from the snow clearers start at 6 am outside the front of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Savoy Hotel is a 4 star hotel in the town of Madonna di Campiglio. It is centrally located on the Sissi Piazza, which is the gateway to the Viale Brenta Dolomites. Behind the hotel you will find the '5 Lakes Gondola' which takes you to the entire Campiglio Ski Area 'Val di Sole Val Rendena'. This is also an excellent place to start from for summer walks. The hotel has spacious rooms for its guests as this was the typical style in luxury hotels of the early nineteenth century. Constantly renovated and refurbished, the hotel offers high quality services in a warm and friendly atmosphere, suitable for family vacations or with groups of friends. With the new management under the Antonioli Family, they wanted to focus on the hotel's tradition of maintaining a top class service. The newly-refurbished rooms with hardwood furniture are nicely decorated in soft pastel colours. All rooms are equipped with precious white Carrara marble bathrooms. You can spend time relaxing at the piano bar in the Hotel while listening to Italian and international music, and sample delicious cocktails prepared by our barman . The hotel has a children's playroom where they can play happily while you are enjoying the music. As is traditional with the Antonioli Family, they continue focus on serving food as per local traditions and using local Italian produce. The hotel features a modern spa where massages and beauty treatments are offered, giving you a much-deserved rest at the end of an eventful day's skiing in the beautiful Dolomites. ... more   less
