I'll skip straight to the conclusion of my one week stay in Capriolo and say that there is really no reason to stay in this Hotel. The location is far from the city center and night life, the food is bad but worst of all is Fabio, the hotel owner, who has no idea how to run a hotel. He is rude and impolite and so is the staff at the reception. They provided us the wrong information about the opening hours and cost of several places and overall gave us the feeling we are not welcome.
The hotel owner and its staff managed to ruin our snowboard vacation, wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Upon arrival hotel stuff (probably even owners), give us stinky room in which someone before us smoked. It was unbearable, since my daughter and me has lounge condition causing us to go for fresh air in the mountains in the first place. On all our demands for changing the room they did not reply and even yelled at us, at some point.
Otherwise rooms are not that bad, location is near the one of the ski lifts but very far from the town (free ski bus is near the hotel, but operate only to 20h), and there is the problem for parking in town if you choose to go by car.
For the breakfast you can choose very little, but in all hotels in Italy we stayed it is not mutch better (they do not serve for example hot meals like ham and eggs or sausages of any kind). Dinner is, like someone mentioned before me, small, but I think it is enough (barely) and everything is well prepared, well served and, for me of the very good taste.
For internet connection you must pay 4€ for two hours, and sometimes link is very slow.
Hotel, in my opinion is not bad for the money if you stay away from disputing with management of the hotel. Otherwise they can totally ruin your holidays like they manage to do with mine.

We stayed at the Hotel Capriolo for 5 nights over xmas of 2008 and must say we had an absolutely excellent time.
The staff were great , very welcoming , the hotel itself was homely and the rooms (our one anyway) was awesome (room134 i think).
Make sure you ask for a room at the front of the hotel so you get a view over the valley and the city. The wellness centre they have is great for unwinding after a hard days skiing. The food was filling and tasty , there were a few grumbles from other people staying but if you want flash go to a 5 star.
Make sure when you get to Livigno you already know what direction you're going in. Basically the Silvestri bus just dumps you with no after thought so catch a Blue or Yellow bus up to a couple of stops before San Rocco and you'll be set. Also the bus that leaves to go to Bormio on the way out stops up the back of the hotel on the secondary road so theres no need to rush into town to catch it from the main bus stop. Get your tickets from the cafe (where main bus stop is) in the days leading up to before you leave.
Hire your gear from the friendly inhouse shop (out back) and take your own ski clothes with you.
Capriolo made our holiday really.

Stayed in the Capriolo Apartments for a week last year - booked a 2 bed Apt between 5 of us which consisted of 1 reasonably sized double, 1 twin (bunk beds) and a Sofa bed.

Overall it is small so i don't recommend you stay here if you don't know your rooms mates very welll as it is quite cramped! It has the basics - comfortable, warm, hot water (shower only), cooker, fridge, oven etc. and as we didn't spend too much time there it was fine. Decor is quite dated!

The no. 1 great thing is the location! Right beside the Ski Clinic where you pick you your ski equipment, stop for free bus service right outside and slopes across the road. Ski Skool meeting point only 10 mins walk in one direction (but bus bring you there in 2 mins) and town centre 10 mins walk in the other.

Plenty of bars and Restaurants in the area as well as a small supermarket!

1 word of advice for all 1st time visitors to Livigno and indeed all Ski resorts - Please ignore star ratings on Apartments and Hotels as they do not come close to standards we are used to outside of the resort. Don't expect too much and you wont be disappointed! As long as the place is warm, comfortable & secure, thats the main thing!

We paid almost €500 Per person for this and for next year a large group of us have opted for Hotel Accommodation on a BB basis for €640 which should definately worth it considering you have you own room/bathroom etc. I will reserve judgement until i get back!

Overall, enjoyable stay!
