“cozy and quiet hotel, very good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

I've stayed at this hotel in June for about 8 days. It was very quiet so I had a very good sleep there. Breakfast was great, buffet style, it included capers on a day-to-day basis, among other things. The common area including the breakfast area was very cozy and comfortable. This was needed even more since wi-fi did not work in the room itself. The hotel is very very close to the main street in Lipari, and also very close to the port - useful to take a boat to other islands such as Vulcano and Stromboli - and also in the same area there is a bus stop for the trips to various interesting places on the island. Decor is beautiful, vintage theme, very nice. The hotel is not too big, it only has rooms on 2 floors. It was very quiet and restful. As soon as on the main street, there is a supermarket across the street, which was very convenient for buying water and food. Other vendors were also on that main street. Major sights such as Museo Archeologico and Duomo are within walking distance (10 minutes walk, given the stairs).
Overall, pros: - quiet - very good location, cons: - bathroom, it would be nice to have the shower area better separated from the rest of the bathroom, location: - Porto (Port) - for trips to the other islands in the archipelago - Museo Archeologico, Cattedrale (Duomo) - Bus terminal - for trips on the island

Room Tip: ask Reception for a quiet room (facing the courtyard), there definitely are such rooms, I've enj...

Kudos all around. One of the bet experiences in my travels.
Everything about the Hotel is as stated and more. Location is superb, the staff courteous and always willing to help with a smile, value for the $$ is outstanding.

Keep up the good work !

This is an old fashioned hotel in the colonial style, much in need of refurbishment, located in a side street close to the ferry terminal. The staff are uninterested in, and disengaged from, clients. No enthusiasm or desire to go the extra mile. The bedrooms are adequate, clean(ish) and reasonably comfortable. Air conditioning didn't work in my room, though it wasn't too hot and there was a ceiling fan. Traffic noise a problem. Breakfast pretty dismal with little fresh produce. Wouldn't stay again.

Villa Augustus is a really interesting building with a relaxing atmosphere. We stayed for 3 nights and were very impressed with it. Its location is absolutely perfect being a 5 to 10 minute easy walk from the main ferry port and a pleasant walk through the town to the smaller port where the tour boats leave from.

The room was clean, well sized with a comfy, firm bed and a fridge. The room was off a jasmin scented courtyard and it was lovely to sit outside with a book and a drink. The breakfast was good with a wide variety of food which is quite unusual in Sicily. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.

Would definitely book again.

We chose Villa Augustus in part for ease of ferry access. To get closer to the deep-water dock where the ferries arrive, you'd have to sleep on a gangplank. Post office, grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants -- pretty much everything you want is just steps away, and the not-too-be missed museum is an easy though uphill walk.

We had two rooms of equal size. The one for a single traveler had two twin beds and the triple added a couch/bed. The rooms had mini refrigerators (extra cost to add an ice block), safes, good pillows, small bathrooms.

The lobby includes a television space and a recreation space with a piano, two guitars, a chess board and decks of cards.

On some shifts the front desk was staffed with an English-speaker, which was helpful and appreciated.

Water restrictions meant undrinkable tap water and no sink laundering.

The room, breakfast and staff were more than satisfactory. The only reason for the middling rating was the location of our triple room -- facing a busy street and roundabout. Traffic calmed down late at night but an afternoon rest was impossible. With another Vespa buzzing by every three seconds it was like napping at a chain saw demonstration.

Also should add that we were there earlier this week, in the busiest part of the summer. Your experience some other time/season may be different.

Would I stay there again? Yes. With a room on the quiet side of the building or maybe on the top floor, it'll be the perfect base next time.

Room Tip: Ask for the roof terrace or the quiet side of the building.

We stayed 2 nights in Villa Augustus and loved it. We were initially given a room in the patio but on request (and at a small fee) we changed to a room on the top floor with a terrace. Definitely a great move. It had a private terrace that led onto a common terrace, what a beautiful room! The small bathroom had a funny shower (no basin but directly on the tiled floor) but the mild inconvenience was quickly forgotten. It was peaceful and quiet, the hotel is a former country house converted into a hotel in the 50s and still run by the same family. Beautifully decorated. Breakfast was the best we had in Sicily. Perfect location, right in the centre of Lipari.

Sound an oasis with its welcoming jasmin perfume coming from its trees. Italian and continental breakfast. The hotel helped out as well for the excursions making phone calls to find out which companies will go out, fares and when. Very good taste in the interiors designs (carpets, amphora, furniture ..
