“4 Star hotel, 5 Star service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2011

From Tony and his wife to the other 5 key members nothing is too much trouble, also the chambermaids are highly efficient and you don’t really notice them until you come back to a very clean room with fresh sheets and towels every day. The hotel itself would be called boutique if in the UK. General decor is sort of art deco with Italian colours, although it did remind me of lovely small French chateaux that I’ve stayed in on my travels. The rooms are not massive but house a king size bed and plenty of furniture for storage and have 15 foot ceilings which, with shutters, help keep the room cool. There is air conditioning in the rooms but we did not need it. Bathroom is shower only in most rooms and the rooms at the front of the hotel have nice view over pool and garden. The pool is only small but plenty big enough for a cooling dip and the sun loungers around it are very comfortable. There are one or two other seating places and the terrace has seating for breakfast and lunch or anytime you might want to sit yourself down. For a diversion there is a sauna in garden, free bikes and a massage chair. It is on a road so some noise but you don’t really notice it either in the garden or with shutters closed at night.
Back to the service, I was lucky enough when working to be able to travel first class in 5 star hotels everywhere I went. The company even had its own airline. I can honestly say I have never experienced a more helpful group of people even in the service culture of the US. You can remain anonymous if you wish, merely nodding greeting, but as soon as you have a question or request they are there to help. Whether bookings, printing timetables, advice on trips or just getting a drink, they are superb. One or two have limited English but it is not a problem to make yourself understood.
There is no evening restaurant but breakfast is great with enough choice for all (even scrambled egg and bacon for those like me who need it) and as much fresh coffee or tea as you wish. Lunch is snacks but we found that a walk to the lovely bakery over the road was good value and sufficient. Drinks in the hotel seemed much cheaper than drinking outside but an itemised breakdown is not given so keep an rough guide on your spend yourself although when our bill came they can’t have charged me enough!! We did three trips during our stay with Hotel help (I had researched possibilities before so just needed times). One long afternoon to Pisa, Lucca and Viareggio, a couple of hours to Forte dei Marmi (to frighten myself with prices) and a day to Florence, all by bus and/or train. Tony also gave us a great restaurant to go to. –all of these I will report separately on. We got a return taxi transfer to hotel, bus is possible as it stops outside hotel but it only runs every hour and there is no room for suitcases. It also stops early and doesn’t run on Sunday. Taxi was Euros 120. Viareggio train station is a 40 min walk or an expensive taxi ride. Bus from outside hotel goes to train station every hour. Would love to go back sometime.

Room Tip: rooms at front of hotel are best

Booked double room for 3 nights. Room spacious with French doors leading to small balcony, with lovely view of pool area. Room cleaned daily and towels replaced. Ensuite shower room (with hairdryer.) Plenty of storage space. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool area has very comfortable sun beds and we had pool to ourselves most days as hotel was very quiet. Free bicycles were great for getting to Viareggio and cycling along coast. Breakfast included and good choice of fruit and cereals and breads. Limited cooked items though. Beach only 2 minute walk away. Taxi to hotel from Viarregio Station cost 15-20 euro!! (only about 3km away) Great choice of restuarants along seafront and side streets. Had wonderful, relaxing time here.

Room Tip: Request room at front of hotel with balcony

This is a wonderful hotel with a great pool/garden area for relaxing at. The beds were the hardest we slept on, and the pillows felt like they were filled with the rubble of a marble quarry. Bring your own pillow, and you will enjoy this hotel!

The hotel is one street back from the promenade/beach front in an excellent location. Parking is free in front of the hotel, but you need to leave keys at reception as cars have to be moved around to allow them all to be parked. Lovely pool and pool area, though small. Very comfortable sun loungers. Never crowded. Free bicycles and a great flat cycle path all the way along the promenade, from Viarregio to Marina di Pietrasanta (maybe further...we did not go any further). Rooms a little dated, but quaint and in character with the hotel. Lovely book in reception, detailing the hotel's history (English and Italian version). Bookcase full of (English) books in case you need something to read. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was typical continental, but very nice. Staff were really helpful, suggesting and booking restaurants, arranging for two teenage boys to watch English Premiership soccer in the relaxing room on big flatscreen TV! Also, explained the beach arrangements (our first time to the beach in Italy, so it was a bit confusing for us) and reduced rates at a private beach very close by (about 2 minutes walk!)Free internet/wifi also a bonus. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again if we were to return to the area.

Location was OK. It wasn't on the beach but close enough. Close to restaurants, shopping, nightlife, etc.. Outside area nice. Pool was small but with nice terrace area - relaxing & quiet.
Rooms were disappointing:
1.Not so clean
2.Furninshings very tired and dated.
3.A/C did not work well at all. We stayed there for 4 nights and they never were able to fix it. After complaining for the second night in a row, the front dest man offered to move us. Thankfully, I checked the room prior to moving. It wasn't any cooler and was smaller than the room we had.
The breakfast was OK, nothing special except that it was pleasant sitting on terrace. They offer bikes to use, at no charge, which was really great. Parking was free.

We spent 3 nights in Hotel Europa with our two girls aged 14 and 10 and we had such a lovely, relaxing time. The hotel is spotless, cool and has old fashioned elegance. We were greeted on arrival by a lovely girl who presented us with our room key and asked if we required any assistance. My husband required internet access which she duly advised him on and we asked for information on the nearest bagno. She gave us a card which offers discount on sunbeds etc on the beach. The hotel is one street back from the beach and a very easy stroll to the promenade. We had requested a room for the four of us and it was was just perfect, we had a balcony and a little terrace with a couple of sun loungers which was great for the afternoon sun. The girls loved the pool, although not large it was very nice with sun loungers all around and always some available. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. There are free bikes at the front of the hotel and are available to use whenever you like. We took them a couple of mornings and rode to Viareggio one morning and to Pietransanta the other. Breakfast was served between 8-10am (I think) and was perfectly nice, a typical continental breakfast with coffee/tea provided on request. We ate out most nights and having been before to Lido di Camaiore we like to eat down on the promenade to watch all that's happening and take in the sights. We ate at the Europa which was very nice but I'm sure we're missing out on experiencing some lovely restaurants further back from the beach. We really enjoyed our relaxing few days at the beach and would like to thank all the staff at the Europa for such a lovely stay. We'll certainly be back!
