“Lovely hotel with most breathtaking views of Lerici, st Tronez and the ligure sea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

The hotel is placed on top of the lush green hills of Lerici which gives great views to the beautiful surroundings... From hotel you can get to the seaside center through a rather steep but beautiful hike (there are stairs all the way) that does not take longer than 5 mins. You can also take your car down to the beach area in week days (its ZTL area in weekends). The hotel staff are really helpful and would make sure you get the help you ask for but not the most attentive staff I would say. The service was really good, good cold food, fruit and sweets buffet breakfast but limited warm food. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean and well kept, with lovely balconies! get a sea view room if you can.

A very few hotels can match the awesome views that the hotel offers. The hotel staff is very polite and the food is excellent. I was there in January last year. The only problem is that there is no free wifi and we have to keep buying tokens to run wifi in the hotel.

Room Tip: always ask for a sea facing room. it will help if you tell them that you are a smoker and need a roo...

Nice hotel, but the room I had at the back of the hotel overlooked an orchard/meadow that was less than inspiring. I was on the third floor and only just about level with the outside world. The lower floors at the back must have no views at all, so try to get a room with a view if possible.
The room itself was OK but even in late October was too warm with the blinds and windows closed. The AC unit was high up on the wall and was impossible to reach, so I never found out whether or not it was functioning. Eventually I had to sleep with the windows open, which led to an influx of mosquitoes.
Internet access was an additional charge and was at best slow, at worst non-existent.
Breakfast was good.
Steps across the road took you straight down to the town square and the walk back up was less arduous than expected!
The outside terrace at the front of the hotel was a nice place to relax with a beer or glass of wine.
Overall, it was OK.

Room Tip: Definitely front and high.

We stayed here for five nights at the end of September and must say that I cannot fault the place. The staff were fantastic and so very helpful - special shout out to Luigi from Johnstone at reception!

The breakfasts (as mentioned in other reviews) were second to none, with a fantastic choice and were available from 0600hrs-1200hrs, yet despite this time it is clear that everything is replenished and refreshed regularly as nothing was (or looked) stale.

Earn the views. It's a climb from Lerici, but it's worth it. Really worth it.

All in all - I can find nothing bad to say about the Grand Hotel Europa. Only praise.

I can thoroughly recommend Lerici too. It's away from the madness of the Cinque Terra (which is still absolutely worth a visit) and is more of a haven for Italian tourists. The town has a great array of excellent restaurants, and the locals are incredibly friendly and accommodating.

Stayed here for 2 nights while on a business trip. It is owned and run by the same folks who run the Doria Park Hotel just downhill. The hotel is very nice, clean, and modern -- more modern than I was expecting. I had a waterfront room -- large room and bathroom. Clean, well-lit. I had a great view from the balcony. Very nice common areas. Breakfast overlooking the town/bay is quite extensive (even has scrambled eggs). Downside is that it sits up the hill, so getting to/from town is a bit of a hike, especially in the dark, when the narrow path is not lit at all. The wifi is quite spotty -- kept having to re-log in multiple times.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

We stayed at the Europa for 4 nights in Sept 2013 and would agree with most of what had been written on trip advisor about the hotel.

Parking was easy (and free), just a few steps away, over the road and the appearance of the hotel from outside was really positive, as per the photos on their website. Stepping inside however was like stepping back 20 years - really rather dated and not somewhere I would want to sit for a drink. The reception staff were polite and helpful. Wireless was 5 euro for 24hours of 'online time' but the login received only lasted for 3 days - not ideal for longer stays.

Our room was on the 3rd floor with a sea view and a small balcony but again, there was another mix of good and not-so-good. The room and bathroom were very clean, the bed was large and comfortable yet the carpet and wardrobes/cabinets were very dated and tatty in places and the same can be said of the bathroom. It appeared that changes had been made to update the rooms - new lamps, headboard, mirrors, tv (although we only had one channel and couldn't get it to work properly with the ipod) etc but there was still some way to go. The balcony was ok and the view from there was wonderful.

Another reviewer has mentioned the noise and we would agree - we heard furniture being dragged across what we could only presume was the terrace of the room above and there was lots of door slamming and running water in the mornings when people were starting to move about - not great if you're planning a lie-in!

There was an excellent choice for breakfast and again, the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the tables on the terrace from where there were great views.

The views are something you will probably have earned - it's less than a 10 minute walk to get down to the town/harbour and a few minutes more to the beach (2 beds and an umbrella on the 'Lido' beach will set you back 36 euros a day though which is about the same as a meal out for 2 with drinks!) but the walk back up will depend on how fit you are - 180(ish) steps in the heat may be more than you'd like. We viewed it as a good way to balance out the pizza and other delights consumed.

Overall, a good place to stay, just be aware that some of the photos on the website are a bit more 'glossy' than in real life.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable. We went with my husband and child and had a king bed and a sofa bed for my son. We even had a small terrace with table and chairs. Breakfast is really good and you can enjoy both the view and the food. They even had a machine that makes fresh orange juice cutting the orange in front of you! Don´t forget to try the cappuccino.
The hotel is up a small hill so you need to walk quite a bit from downtown to reach it (and my husband hates to exercise...) but my son and I really enjoyed the walking. Take in mind that it is difficult to get a taxi.
