“Wonderful Spot for Exploring the Italian Riviera”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

We had originally hoped to book a hotel in Portofino but found that all the hotels were out of our price range. A friend had recommended that we stay at the Doria Park in Lerici due to its proximity to Portofino and Rapallo. It couldn't have been a better recommendation. The Doria Park is located on a hilltop overlooking the Gulf of Poets. While our room didn't have a view of the water (we didm;t ask for one) the lower terrace (where the restaurant is located) and the upper terrace (where one can kick back and relaxed) had beautiful views of the water and the beautiful rooftops of Lerici. Our room was a great size. Very modern and clean as was the well appointed bathroom. Breakfast was included and it was delicious and plentiful. It was a short walk downhill to the centre of town (which located right on the water) and all the restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

After reading a lot of good reviews about this hotel we decided to stop there for 3 nights. We were travelling with 2 kids and in laws, so we have booked 2 rooms. One was room for 4 people( called quadruple room) and the other one double comfort park view. After sending a lot of emails and asking to have nice view and have comfortable rooms for 6 of us we got 2 terrible rooms!
Our room was not in the main building but in the attached building on the first floor partially sea view we had a huge house infront of our balcony( on the web site was mentioned sea view). Room for 4 was so tiny so you can walk inside only if other 3 people are sitting on the bed. VERY tiny bathroom with cracked sink!! , wall paper also had scratches here and there, a table lamp broken and clued, on the balkony ashtray was also dirty. AC WAS NOT WORKING AND WE COULDN'T SLEEP ALL THE NIGHT BECAUSE OF WARM. it doeasnt look that Miss Marina (the manager) was taking care about our room at all!!My in laws room also was terrible with a view of Old AC infront and and old wall. And when we were trying to complain Miss Marina did not take any action or give as apologises, she was very clearly saying if you dont like you can go to Forte dei Marmi or somewhere else. Saying to us that thwy are not 4/5 stars hotel.( it means we should be happy staying in an old room with full of scratches and Ac broken)she was very rude with us . It looks that she was making a favour to accommodate us !! For this disaster we were paying 900 euro!! For 3 nights! After travelling around the world and being in the hospitality business myself I suggest to the management to take actions and change there attitude toward their customers.

We spent two nights at the Doria Park Hotel early in June. Do not be put off by the rather uninspired exterior, once you get to your room and its balcony you will be transported. Amazing view of the Gulf of Poets over the rooftops of Lerici. Our room was modest in size but very clean with a large and well appointed bathroom. Booking a room with a view and balcony is a must. Ask for a higher floor. And, then there was the staff - very friendly and service oriented. They offered great advice on restaurants. If you want a beach day - book a spot at the nearby Eco Del Mar beach (the hotel can help you). Unlike the crowded European beach scene, it is set in a private gorgeous cove, with a serene almost spa like feel. Fun swimming, gorgeous setting and amazing lunch. Would stay at the Doria Park again and recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room and on a high floor.

Well located just above the old town, the famous bay of the Poets, so just above the spacious bayside piazza, plenty of bars and restaurants. Room was very comfortable, fine views of the town below, and bay. But breakfast was less than optimum? Better to find a good café below on piazza? Bread / croissants were basic. Too many rich cakes. And wifi was not free.

I've stayed at this hotel about a half dozen times and its one of those hotels that feels like home. It isn't perfect: the rooms are small drop the soap in the shower and you'd better get another bar as there's no room to bend over to pick it up. The amenities in the room are sometimes odd and the wifi is of variable quality. One minute great and a few minutes later terrible.

If at all possible chose a room with a view of the harbour and the town of Lerici. Better yet a balcony with a view of the harbour. The view is stunning - especially at sunset. You'll want to set as side at least an hour a day to enjoy the view and all the sounds of the town below. Early evening is a good time - while you're waiting for the restaurants to open (8 pm at the earliest)

As much as I like the view, the food in the hotel restaurant is even better. It's best if you like sea food. This is a fishing village and fish features prominently in the menues of all the mica restaurants. The portions are the right size so you can enjoy a couple courses and not feel overfill (north Americans may feel "ripped off" by the modest portions but unless you're a triathlete and need several million calories a day you are much better off with European portions).

The town of Lerici is quite charming. You can spend a very enjoyable couple hours walking from one end to the other along the waterfront. There is a ferry that will take you to Cinqua Terre.

The driveway to the hotel is a real "wish I'd left the range rover at home". Narrow, long, winding and a very steep descent. I find it very appealing - probably helps that I don't own a range river.

A GPS is also highly recommended - or at least look at the map as the hotel is not especially easy to find.
