“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

What a clean, welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The staff were so good during our stay. Although the hotel was on the outskirts of the city so a car was essential to visit the old town, being close to the Tangenziale gave excellent access to explore the whole region. Pool and other sports facilities where good. The food was wholesome local produce.

Lecce old town is full of interesting bars and restaurants and the Roman Amphitheatre creates a buzz.

The location is ideal for the main routes in and out of Lecce making this hotel a great base for discovering Puglia. it's too far to walk into the centre but the fact the hotel has parking and a fantastic pool outways this minor inconvenience. A taxi into town can be arranged within a few mins and costs €10.

We visited in September just after the season had ended and had great weather and on the days we stayed in we had the fantastic pool virtually to ourselves.

The staff on reception were extremely helpful and the head chef personally prepared a fantastic salad for our lunch one day. Nothing is too much trouble.

Staff are so welcoming you feel like you have arrived at a friends house. Non stop smiles and offers of help. The Hotel is smart, modern, stylish and VERY clean. Great pool and grounds and above all quiet, its the place where the smart Italians go for a break. A little far from town but a 14Euro taxi ride you are in town. Its worth staying here if you are in Lecce and want a place with a pool and has that edge of art and style. There is even a spa should you decide to stay indoors. Big, air conditioned rooms with all the goodies you expect of a non, mass tourist hotel (shower gel/shampoo, free internet, mini bar etc). Should I ever return to Lecce, I will stay again.

We stayed here for 2 nights towards the end of our Puglia holiday. Having stayed at a few locations, including two different trulli villas further north, we wanted to travel further south and Lecce (Le-cha) was considered the Florence of the south. We booked the hotel during our first week in Puglia as we hadn't managed to decided on our final accommdation.

Used Sat Nav to find the hotel and as usual was out by about half a mile across open fields and busy road.

Reception staff were welcoming and showed us to our suite, walked straight into the 'lounge' area which had already been converted to the childrens bedroom with the sofabed. Wardrobe, safe, dressing table and fridge were in this room, door connected through to our king size bed and on to our large ensuite shower room with rain head shower. Plenty of towels. Rooms, in fact the entire hotel, is minimalist and modern in design.

As it was the hottest part of the day we immediate went down to the outdoor pool, gave in our 4 tickets for pool towels and the lady lifeguard sorted out sun loungers for us. We ordered two cold panini's to be cut between four of us and four cokes and two ice creams (lots of choice) = 25E. Pool toilets were just ok. Pool itself was a good size, temperature and has a large shallow area for very little ones.

Drove the 10min drive into Lecce that evening, too far to walk.

We ate in the hotel restaurant the second evening as we had been out most of the day. Antonio Raffaele is the hotel chef and reception were very proud to say he was chef of the year in Italy in 2008. They didn't have a childrens menu. They shared a prawn cocktail off the menu - two langoustines each and we asked the head waiter if chef could do them a pasta with tomato, mozzarella and basil dish, it was no problem and delicious. We all received a chef's taster dish which was very nice indeed. Tuna steaks and especially the sauce was delicious and also ordered a green salad to accommpany it. The salad was not good. Thankfully the young waiter asked if everthing was ok (a rarity we found in Italy) and we explained the salad was a let down (it was also 6E) - it was just ripped up iceberg lettuce, fine if you love iceberg but we find it the most boring of all lettuce. I suggested oil, cherry tomatoes to be added to liven it up a little - he did with a flourish and came back very pleased with the revised salad which also included red onions. He explained that he had spent time in Germany but plain green salad was the way things were in Puglia - maybe, but a chef of the year shouldn't in our opinion but punting out a bowl of boring iceberg lettuce all on its own. The new salad was a vast improvement. Dinner was very good value and local wine - a good dry white (Bolina) was only 12E.

Breakfasts had a good range of cold offerings, hot was scrambled egg and bacon from the same container (possible problem for vegetarians). We ate inside the first morning and outside under shade on our second morning, however the second morning was very uncomfortable......

The restaurant really needs a front of house manager as we had an upset when another group of four were shown to our table after it had been allocated to us. Food areas were busy and we were sorting out the children, when we returned to our table another group consisting of two couples had started to use it, we were a bit confused as our Italian is virtually non-existent and the girls were talking excitedly to their partners - disgruntled, rightly so, that they felt the table was theirs. We were about to move our things from the table (as we really didn't need this problem) when another Italian man explained in Italian to the two girls that we were in fact allocated the table first. The men of the couples were very kind and apologetic over the whole incident, as were we, as the only fault was with the restaurant staff. Unfortunately I'm not sure their partners felt this way. One waiter should allocate residents to tables - alleviating this problem of guests getting caught out and trying to sort out a problem they didn't create themselves. We hurriedly ate and left.

We stayed at Art Hotel & Park in July 2012. We planned to stay 3 nights but ended up with 9 nights. The hotel was cleaned, the food was great and the staff was the best. The outdoorpool was very nice and good for a family with small children. We will definitely visit this hotel again very soon.

The hotel was very clean, the rooms were spacious, cool and well maintained but it did feel a little souless at times. The hotel only opened this year and there were some teething problems. The hotel is situated about 2km from the centre of Lecce and we didn't have a car ( even if we did parking in Lecce is not easy without a permit) . The walk into town is not too far but the road is a main road, unlit and without pavements, so it didn't feel very safe after dark. Taxis in Lecce are very expensive and not overly reliable. When we asked about taxis we were told that they are currently looking into setting up a shuttle service for next summer to rectify this issue.

The outdoor pool was lovely, breakfast was generous and offered a wide choice of options. Staff were always friendly and willing to help, but not always able to answer our questions.

We would recommend the hotel, but only if you plan on driving yourself.
