“Best food in Italy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Firstly, we must thank our lovely hosts Alessandro and Isabella. Also, the amazing chef Suzanna and Mario the happy waiter. All of you made our five day experience at the property very memorable. Don't be fooled by the laid back approach of the owners and staff for they have the perfect combination of professionalism and fun. We paid for the half board and boy were we surprised by the amount of food served to us for both breakfast and dinner. Like the previous reviewer stated, in the evening you are given at a minimum 8 courses.... our eyes were popping out of our heads. Each course is amazingly delicious. We got to try food we would not have otherwise had an opportunity to eat- authentic tuscan food. Everything looks and tastes like it came out of a 5 star restaurant. After our first evening experience we learned not to eat much all day so that we could enjoy all the culinary delights later. You also get a mega breakfast in the morning (at any time) which included a platter of fruit (I counted 8 different fruits one morning), juice, bread, sweet breads, eggs, ham, croissants, and hot drinks. Alessandro (the king as we called him) is in his element helping out in the dining room and at giving advise on wines. We drank some lovely wines from his supply. Isabella speaks perfect english and both owners went out of their way to accommadate any questions or needs we might have had. We should mention that the rooms are individually decorated and of a decent size with well equipped bathrooms. The pool area is very good with a nice grassy area to stretch out in shade also if needed. A car is a must to visit here we feel in order to sightsee. It is up a bit of a hill too. This property is a lovely place to unwind and forget a schedule. We went there hoping we would like it and came away with a slightly bigger waistlines I'd imagine, lovely memories, new friends, wine and their very own olive oil. Isabella and Alessandro - we will come back when the olive oil runs out....well, here's hoping :-)

Located in the south-west corner of Tuscany, just outside Val d'Orcia, this agriturismo is a good place to stay to visit Val d'Orcia, Maremma and Bolgheri. Since it's a 45-60 min drive from the coast, beach visits are possible as well.

The agriturismo... Well, let me start by saying the hosts were very hospitable and had genuine fun in their jobs. From the moment we arrived, they made sure we were not short of anything. Drinks, food... Everything was taken care of. The (male) hosts are responsible for a lively atmosphere in the evening, serving the dinner with bravoure.

The agriturismo is located on a hill near the road to Monte Antico. It has a dining room and a dining terrace and a decent swimming pool in the garden. The garden had many areas to sit and relax. The room was medium sized, clean, airconditioned and had a decent bed. The bathroom was good.

Now the dinner.... That is something special! Let me start by the only downside of our stay: if you try to eat it all, you'll be round as the Michelin guy when you leave. Every night, there is a bombardement of quality food. The antipasto is a 3-4 course meal by itself (the first night we had te impression that this was the dinner, until the rest was served), followed by various pasta's and meat dushes. In most agriturismi, the meat dishes are not impressive, but here... On our last night I had the a filetto di Vitello, which ended up in being a huge steak (I estimate at least 300 grams) with a great green pepper sauce. The deserts were excellent as well. All 3 dinners were 7-8 courses and excellent. So props for the cook, great job!

The breakfast was above average as well, with a wide choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, sweet bread, normal bread, ham, eggs - you could get it all if you wanted.

The most surprising this was the price/quality ratio: the price for half pension (so including stay, breakfast and 8-course dinner including wine) was 75 euro per person per day. Great value for money.

If you like quiet and calm or if you are already obese: don't go there. All others should consider La Piatina for a stay.

Just want to add to the already excellent comments. We came here for our anniversary and loved it. An 8 course meal, lovely local wine and fantastic service. Next time we will stay as well! The views across the hills whilst drinking a glass of prosecco will stay with me whilst I slave away at the 9 - 5!
Thank you very much and we will hopefully visit again soon.

I have traveled throughout Italy for years, and Piatina is my favorite place to be in the Tuscan hills. I have been staying there for the past 12 years. This family-owned and operated agriturismo is centrally located, so you can travel throughout Tuscany during the day, and return "home" to Piatina in the evening for a full-course, world-class Tuscan meal. Nearby places of interest include: Montalcino, Montepulciano, Siena, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, San Galgano, Pienza, Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Buonconvento and many more. There are also a number of fine wineries in the area to explore. The owners, Alessandro and Isabella, will ensure that your stay is delightful. Isabella speaks perfect English, so don't worry about being in the countryside, if you don't speak Italian.
