We were surprised at how cheap this place was. We had booked a bungalow and was expecting something simple. Well, it was simple but it was much more than we expected. Air conditioning (up to 38C outside, so this was a relief) for free and a simple kitchen (no oven or microwave) complemented the nice bedrooms - clean and comfy. Outside, the bungalow could do with some repairs. Our patio was crumbling, for example.
We had been warned that the site is noisy. Well, it is. But it's a nice, happy noise. And it stops at about 11 so it tends not to be any bother. In fact the "noise" is the events put on by GSF, the young "animateurs" who sing, dance, act, compere, supervise, coach and indeed do all the things to make your stay at Punta Spin very jolly. Make sure you learn the dance to their anthem "Have a colourful day" on the first evening to get the most out of the GSF experience. (Google it in advance to steal a lead on other holidaymakers).
The onsite Spar shop is well-stocked and there is probably no need to go anywhere else. Getting cash is more complicated. There is allegedly a cash machine in nearby Pinetta but it had been taken out of service when we were staying. Whilst that was a plasant half hour walk along the beach, the trip to Grado which has everything is a bus ride away. Large pizzas for 7 Euro or so from the on site pizzaria are a must.
The only real rip-off is the beach, where (as is normal in Italy) you have to pay lots of Euro to secure your sunbeds and parasol for the week. This can get very expensive (over a hundred Euro) for a large family, although it is possible to plonk beach towels further away from the site out of the jurisdiction of the beach-meister.
Language-wise, native English speakers may find it hard to find other native English speakers. There are many nationalities at Punta Spin. Italians of course, Germans, Austrians, Russians. Site staff all speak good English, though, even if the GSF staff and pizzaria staff do not. My young son however managed to play ad-hoc football with boys from many countries without language getting in the way.
If you are an easy-going type of family, not fussy about things being perfect and perhaps on a budget, this could be the place for you.
