“Beware the beds!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I visited this hotel in July 2012 with my wife and 2 children. We booked the 2 week stay via Expedia and were under the assumption we had booked a large room with 2 Queen sized beds. On our arrival (late at night) we were shown to our room to find 2 beds of "French Queen" size. Beware these on the Hilton website as there is no mention of "French" Queen, merely Queen. Each bed was the size of a large single and certainly not enough room for 2 adults (or indeed 2 children!!). We raised the issue with Reception on the night of arrival after discovering the bed sizes and were told by the Night Porter that our request for a room change would be logged for the morning.

In the morning we went back to reception to find no record of our previous night's conversation. We spoke instead to a Repectionist who said that the French Queen was a standard sized bed and the mistake sadly was ours. She did show us a new rom which did have a proper Queen sized bed, as well as a single, and were told another bed could be put in there (it was a much bigger room). However the extra cost would be 30 euros extra per night. Apparently we had already been upgraded to a sea view room in our original room (there was barely any sea view to be honest!). We asked to see the Manager and later in the day he agreed to see us. He explained that the bed sizes were on the website and it was up to us to check when we booked. We made the point that something advertised as "Queen" sized should be that, especially in an American hotel company. He said the room could be upgraded for an extra 60 euros a night!! Eventually we agreed on 15 euros a night extra for the new room - admittedly a lovely big room that looked over the beautiful hotel next door plus the sea. Apparently others we spoke to had had similar bed size problems! The hotel put in an extra bed for us too.

Other than the bed fiasco, the hotel is very nice. The breakfast was good but we had it as part of our deal - some were paying €25 each per day for the breakfast so check when you book (it's not worth €25!).

The pool was nice although there were not really enough sun beds for everyone and one had to arrive early. The Lifeguard would occassionally get fed up with people complaining that there were not enough and remove towels of people not on their beds. To be honest, as long as you got to the pool after breakfast you could get a bed. If you arrived mid morning you'd probably be out of luck. Lots of people then vacated their sunbeds after lunch so more became available. Occassionally the wind would get up and the Lifeguard would charge round closing all the sun brolleys!

The beach was a short walk away but beds were chargeable on there. The beach and the sea were beautiful, very warm water.

The local town is a short walk away too, plenty of restaurants and shops.

Tip: don't bother with the beach Blue Bar or the cafe in the hotel lobby for lunch - walk 200 yards up the road (turning right as you leave the hotel) for the Euromarket supermarket - they make superb baguettes and rolls in there for a fraction of the cost of the hotel.

There is no wifi in the hotel unless you pay the extortionate 9 euro/day charge. Don't bother - there is a bar cafe over the road from the hotel where it is free.

The hotel car park is a 5 minute walk away but costs €10 per day. There are 2 attendants there at all times but it is basically a piece of scrap land. Occassionally when leaving the car park one of the attendants will giev your car a hosing down to get rid of the dust and leaves. Our wing mirror casing disappeared whilst parked there but the Scillians have a very liberal approach to driving to be honest. Whewn you arrive, tell Repection you wish to park in their car park, and they give you a chit and then add the final cost to your bill when you leave. It is not that easy to park in the local town so we generally walked into town (about 10 - 15 minute walk).

When we got home I complained to Hilton about the beds. They kept repeating the same old mantra, but in the end after about 8 emails asking for a refund they sent me a "Be My Guest" certificate for a free nights stay in a Hilton anywhere in the world.

Overall a lovely hotel, good place for a holiday, very hot when we were there, shame about the beds though!

Room Tip: Check your bed size when booking - dimensions are given on Hilton website - ignore the reference to...

The team at Giardini Naxos could not have been more helpful and welcoming - and it started with our booking and went on all the way through our stay. The service was quick response and friendly.
Breakfasts were very good - particularly the local flavour, with lemon marmalade and pistacchio granita and lovely local bread rolls.
We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite (courtesy of Diamond membership of Hilton Honors) and it was incredibly spacious and comfortable, with balconies with views of both Etna and the sea.
One great thing about Giardini Naxos is that there is no shortage of places to eat - the excuse being to get out and about and see a bit of the place. It's nice being a bit away from Taormina, and the provision of sunbeds, towels, help with coastal trips is very good. I think that the reception staff could make a bit more of the spa and the services of the beach guards - you had to do your own digging for information, which we did, and were rewarded with excellent, good value service
We would definitely return there for another holiday.

True to its international American hotel name; personnel are friendly, pkace is clean and the rooms are very spacious and enormous in size compared to other European size hotels.

This is 20 minutes from Taormina; about an hour from Messina and 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Siracusa.

Excellent breakfast choices of food, drinks, bread and local especialties.

It's a Hilton inclusive of all the stuffy service. But that's the only thing that's included. Wifi costs €16 per 24 hours, parking costs €10 per day and breakfast €20 per person. Prices are obvious upfront but they are still pretty steep.

The room was good although there was a stain on one of the towels. We told reception and all towels were changed within 15 minutes.

The a/c in the room was fantastic. Held the required temperature and was super quiet.

We didn't think the area was very good and the restaurants around the hotel are average. Worth a trip a bit further to find a better restaurant, like Le Desir Piquant a few km away. Good local restaurant that is an absolute bargain.

Ok, of all the hotels we stayed at while in Italy, this one was tops...in all regards. The rooms were spacious and well appointed; the staff members were polite, friendly, and helpful; the grounds were well maintained; the pool and beach areas were delightful; the breakfasts were excellent; the lobby was clean and inviting; and even the location wasn't as bad as some of the negative comments lead you to believe. There is excellent bus service nearby to Taormina and numerous opportunities for decent eating just across the street. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Stayed here for one night for business. Location was good as you can walk to the other restaurants in the area. Right on the beach if you have time. Very friendly and helpful staff. On the bad side you have to pay for internet and parking but the nightly rate wasn't that bad. Good choice at breakfast too.
They upgraded me to a suite which had a huge balcony over looking the sea which was appreciated.

Spent a week in this hotel in October. Nice surroundings and 'theme' decorations. Good breakfast selection. Nice room with plenty of space and the air conditioning was on constantly and could be regulated by us - a definite plus. Overall a good hotel however, three 'gripes':
1. Disappointed they charge for beds and parasols on their small pebble beach.
2. Staff took ages to clear 'used' tables at breakfast and often had to sit at a table with used dishes etc, still present as other non prepared tables were 'reserved'.
3. Rather excessive charge for use of the internet - 3.50 euros for 15 minutes (we needed to use this to confirm our transfers).

Room Tip: Not the best sea views from the left hand side of the hotel (on approach).
