“We Keep Returning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Just returned from our eighth time over last nine years and thought it deserved a review. Have been as couple, with friends and this time with daughters their husbands and grandchildren. Fantastic location on lake in a hotel with a nice relaxed approach with staff who are friendly and helpful.
Rooms always well presented and very clean. Breakfast by the pool is a pleasure with a good selection.
Gala dinners by the pool, with drinks reception on terrace make a lovely evening.
Maybe entertainment only once or twice per week but plenty of choice for evening meal in Gardone, you can even take the train to the upper village.
No childrens activities other than pool but we found plenty to keep our grandchildren 12 and 3 occupied.
Everything about the hotel is relaxing, we will no doubt be returning.

Room Tip: Most rooms have lake view but 3rd floor have large terraces, whereas others have balconies or just a...

I think the fact that we have chosen to stay at this hotel for the past 11 years speaks for itself . We never tire of the hotel and location . We have seen some staff come and go and some return year after year and all without exception have always been completely courteous , helpful and extremely friendly , making for a most relaxing and stress free break . We do have our adventure's around the world , which are amazing , but we always feel the need to return to the Savoy Palace for our Chill Out time every year !
We have read some of the reviews written by previous guests and found them surprising and unfounded . It would be impossible for the maid to enter the room whilst guests were in it as a light on the door would show it was occupied so they simply would not do that .
Regarding the towels on the chairs , we saw that occur once or twice, and yes it is annoying , but it was never at the crack of dawn as suggested and the hotel cannot be responsible for the behaviour of a handful of thoughtless guests. Most people come and go throughout the day and there are always sunloungers to be found when required .
As regards to the remark about nightlife, if what is on offer is not appreciated then I would suggest that perhaps Italy is not the right destination for you !
The reason we love the Savoy Palace and Gardone so much is because it attracts mainly guests who appreciate what it has to offer and usually Italy in general . Every year we meet and keep new friends who like us look forward to returning over and over . You can't ask for a greater recommendation than that as far as we are concerned !
Can't wait to return next year , and we have only been home for 20 hours !!!

Room Tip: Book direct with the hotel and ask to be on the 4th or 5th floor with lake view if possible .

It is good location, although its not targeted for youg people, the evening events are boring, and there are not good recommendations for activities.
I would personally chose to stay somewhere else.
The internet keeps disconnecting and its a hassle to sign in.
I would advise to change the carpet in the rooms.
Although breakfast is rich, but no kettle in rooms.

Dear Jalal,

thank you very much for the review you left on tripadvisor. We appreciate yours comments and suggestions in order to improve the services the hotel can offer.
Gardone has always been famous for its quiet surroundings and loved by its visitors for a relaxing holiday. But obviously there are also a lot of restaurants and bars on the lake Promenade, directly in front of the hotel or in the upper part of Gardone Riviera. The botanical garden and the famous Vittoriale are only a 10 minutes walk away and for evening entertainment you can join one of the fantastic events at the Vittoriale with famous Italian and International artists.
There is also a very famous disco club called "La Torre", just five minutes walk from the Savoy, where you can both enjoy live music and dancing.
We apologize for the bad internet connection. We recentely replaced the whole system and we can now guarantee better connection for all internet users.
Regarding the kettle in the room we would like to inform you that in Italy it is not usual to provide kettles in all hotel rooms, but since we are aware that this service is very appreciated above all by our English guests, we provide them in some room categories – Deluxe and Prestige. As regards the carpets in some rooms, last winter we removed most of the old carpets and replaced with parquet pavement. This year we are going to complete the remaining rooms.

It would be a pleasure to welcome you again at the Savoy Palace!

Yours sincerely,

Silvia Dalla Bona

My mum and I stayed here for 7 nights July/August as part of a group travelling with Great Rail Journeys. We had a lovely room (304) with a balcony overlooking lake/pool.
Bedroom spotless, firm beds, crisp linen, luxurious bathroom (although shower head didn't fit into the attachment).
Our experience was completely ruined though by the eating arrangements. Having paid over £3000 for our holiday we did not expect to be treated as second class customers. We had to eat breakfast and dinner in a hot 'basement' with no windows, inadequate air con (the sweat started to trickle down my back after on 10 mins) and only one door leading from it to the beautiful poolside tables which we were NOT allowed to sit at. No, they were reserved for other hotel guests. Nor were we allowed to sit the other end of the ground floor. We were like cattle hurded into the far end corner. I've no doubt the tour company we used squeezed them on price, but the food wasn't good either and it took c3 hours to be served a 3-course meal. In fact, after the first night, my mum and I only had the self-serve starter of salad (leaves, grated carrot and tomato) and cheese (yes cheese), and then went to eat out in Gardone every evening.
We would not stop here again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 3rd floor have a big balcony with chairs table and loungers. Any lower than 3rd flo...

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for your review. Your comments are very helpful to understand wether we are doing well or if there are some services that has to be improved.

First of all we would like to thank you for your nice compliments about the room. We take very much care when reserving the rooms for our guests and we always try to give the nicest room available or even to upgrade the room if possible.

We would like to apologize for the broken air conditioning in the restaurant, but we point out that it has been repaired immediately during your stay.

We understand that you would have prefered to sit outside, but unfortunately we do not have enough sitting space for all our guests by the pool. That means that sometimes in high season we have to reserve some tables inside the restaurant for our guests.
The menu you had during your stay was different from our menu à la carte, but we are sure that it has been carefully chosen by your tour operator before your stay. We cannot understand your comment about the quality of the food, because usually we receive a lot of compliments by our guests. We are sure of the care and attention the kitchen staff reserves for the preparation of all dishes.

We will take your comments as a chance to improve and thank you very much for the time you dedicated to write them.

Yours sincerely,
Silvia Dalla Bona

Lovely feel to hotel and friendly, helpful staff, but the food - no. Room that we had was spacious, always cleaned, comfortable, large balcony and great view of the lake, but the food - no. Most chefs do not offer 2 fish dishes on the same menu - usually meat and/or fish or vegetarian, but not during our stay. Going with a tour company was not ideal and private guests were treated to a different - and better - menu.
It was a shame because we really liked the hotel and it has so much potential to be special. The pool is a bit small and guests should be discouraged from placing towels on the poolside chairs and leaving them there while they go off for the day. We never found a beach(see Mariehelen007) but we did find really nice people which is more important.Just outside the hotel garden are restaurants selling lovely food which made the hotel seem even more at a disadvantage. Not up to 4 star anyway!

Room Tip: Book rooms facing the lake and on floors 3,4 or 5.

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for the comment you left on tripadvisor.

We are very glad to read your compliments about the room and the staff.

According to our agreements with the tour operator, every menu has been carefully chosen before your stay. We are sorry, but we do not agree about the bad quality of the food, because our chef takes very much care of the preparation.

As regards the beach, there is one very nice close to the hotel, which is called "Rimbalzello".

We would be very glad to see you again at the Savoy Palace on Lake Garda and wish you all the best.

Yours sincerely,

Myself and a friend stayed here for 4 nights towards the end of July - what an experience! It has so much potential but the customer service leaves alot to be desired.

On arrival we were greeted by Oana, no smile or friendly welcome, we felt like it was an inconvenience for her to check us in. Naturally we had a few further questions about our stay and asked her for suggestions on what to do in the local area- whilst she provided us with maps and leaflets to her best ability her attitude and customer service leaves alot to be desired. Many of our questions were met with a frown and 'no'. We dreaded seeing her again in the hotel as she seemed to take an instant dislike to us!

We stayed in a classic room which met our low budget and needs however we were a bit disappointed the room had no tea or coffee making facilities...(it's a 4 star hotel) yet had complimentary bathroom supplies and a mini bar? Our room (101) had a partial view of the pool and another building. Classic rooms also have no chest of draws, just a big wardrobe with a few hangers so we had to live our our suitcase most of the week.

On our first day housekeeping decided to let themselves in our room at 9.30am! When I told reception (Oana) that it isn't really acceptable as people are likely getting ready (as we were) or still asleep at this time. She explained that 'this was normal in most hotels as people are checking out at 11 and this is the time they clean'. From my experience housekeeping is from 11-2pm when people have checked out or when guests have left their room for the day. I asked that they please come around midday for the rest of our stay which was followed through.

As we didn't have tea of coffee facilities (and would not supply it for our room) in the evening after dinner we would come back and ask for it at the bar. This seemed to always cause all sorts of problems.
One night the barman was very stressed and told my friend to wait a moment and sit down. He said the hotel won't pay for another barman and he was the only one making drinks for the whole hotel at the moment.
On another night we wanted to sit outside by the pool and have coffee,so we ordered at the bar with no issues and he said he would bring it out. On sitting by the pool a waiter told us that we couldn't sit here and have coffee and that he had to speak to his manager, we told him however that we had already ordered it. We also wanted to pay for our coffee's as we went along (to budget well) but were told it wasn't possible by bar staff and reception and had to put it on a tab and pay at the end of our stay. Although on 1 or 2 occasions we did pay there and then.

On speaking to guests who were staying via Great Rail Journey's, we were informed that some of them who did complain about service/facilities were told that they were '2nd class citizens because they did not book direct'. Pretty shocking, but unsurprising because we also did not book directly with the hotel and received very poor treatment.

This hotel is certainly not a 4 star based on facilities. The pool area, 'spa' and the hotel in general is acceptable for a 3 star. Many areas seem quite dated. For service, I would rate it at a 2 star.

It seems if you want a 4 star experience you need to book direct or book one of their superior rooms, this seems to be a big indicator on what level of service you will receive.
By day 3 we were done with being annoyed at the level of service. As a general rule of thumb you should always mention if things aren't right there and then but the hotel seemed so disinterested in helping us we ended up laughing about how ridiculous it was so we could enjoy the remainder of our holiday!

Just to note, if you don't like birds Gardone isn't for you! Little birds everywhere that come and take your food at breakfast, swoop past your head and sit on your table. Nothing can be done but can be entertaining at times.

The hotel also should address the 'reserving pool loungers' issue. Every morning many guests would get up at the crack of dawn and 'reserve' their lounger for the day by placing a towel and a book on it only to not return until 10/11am, or later that day. We didn't often use the pool but when we did at say between 1-3pm it was always an effort to find spare loungers.

To sum it up, the hotel is in a great location close to restaurants, shops, ferry crossing and right on the lake side but if you are to stay in Gardone, stay at the Grand - we had dinner there one night and the service was impeccable, they could not do enough for us. The Grand itself was outstanding for a 4 star.

I'm surprised at the level of positive feedback of the Savoy on T.A, perhaps we were unlucky but on speaking to other guests that week they had the same experience!

Room Tip: To best experience Gardone, choose a room with a balcony overlooking the lake, by choosing a superio...

Dear Guests,

in reference to the review you placed on tripadvisor we would like to express our complete disapproval.
At your arrival our colleague at the front desk, Oana, has welcomed you in the best way as she always does. She has worked with us for the last 3 years and we have full trust in her professional skills and cordiality confirmed by the compliments she receives from many guests. Our reception staff is always at our guest’s disposal and does the best in order to help them with all requests.
According to your reservation, you booked a Classic room. In 4 star hotels in Italy it is not mandatory to provide tea&coffee making facilities, but it is an additional service that can be offered to the clients. In case of the Savoy Palace it is provided for room types DELUXE and PRESTIGE.
Concerning the restaurant we guarantee a very high level and excellent cuisine with first class fresh cooked food. Numerous compliments of many guests expressed on Trip Advisor and in our Guests Book are the best proof of an excellent friendly and attentive service. We cannot understand how you can make a comparison to other restaurants when you did not even have dinner once in our restaurant.

Another comment does not correspond to truth: you are claiming a chamber maid came into your room at 9:30 am. In our computer system we can see when doors are opened and closed (http://www.microdevice.it/) and on July 23, the day after your arrival, you left the room at 8:45 am and came back again at 8.57. The chamber maid came into your room first at 1.29 pm and left it at 1.45 pm.

We would like to point out, that if you had reported your disagreements during your stay, our management would have been pleased to help by verifying your complaints, and if justified, to provide an immediate remedy.
We are very dissappointed by your comments, but if you would wish to stay at the Savoy Palace again we are sure that we can reverse these unjustified comments.

Yours sincerely,

Silvia Dalla Bona

We had a week at this hotel and really enjoyed it. The hotel itself is right on the lake front (although there is no access directly to the lake from the hotel, the beach is only 500 yards away). The rooms are nicely furnished and lovely and cool. The pool is a bit small, and there really aren't enough deck chairs so people go a bit crazy first thing in the morning trying to reserve their spaces. The gym is REALLY small with very few bits of equipment.
There's loads to do. All along the lake front there are really good restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance. It's easy to catch one of the many ferries which criss cross the lake to other lakeside cities and islands. The trip to Sirmione was one of the highlights of the week. We also did a day trip to Verona and spent a spectacular night at the opera - Verdi's Aida - in the open air amphitheatre.
We had a car so it was easy to explore the little villages around the lake and it made the trip to Verona really easy.

Room Tip: There are rooms with really small balconies - which barely take 2 chairs - and MUCH larger balconies...

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for your kind comment regarding both the hotel, it’s surroundings and the leisure time activities on the Lake and in it’s neighbourhood. The hotel has a central position in Gardone Riviera, this is definitely one of it’s strengh, so it is a good choise for those, who arrive without car and have to use public transport. Your annotation about the different balcony size might help other guests in booking the right room type if they desire to have a large balcony, like a Deluxe or a Prestige room.
Regarding the sunbeds we inform you that we already provided to buy more for the swimming pool area.
We would be very glad to welcome you again as our guest at the Savoy Palace.

Yours sincerely,
