“Lovely town, shame about the hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Visited Lake Garda in June and had a lovely holiday. We stayed in Garda Town which is lovely but chose the wrong hotel. Stayed at Hotel Palme. The temperature was well into the mid to high 30's but though advertised as having air conditioning we were told that it does not get switched on until July. The food was OK if you are more than willing to eat food that is made to please German appetites. This hotel's decor is very tired and our room could definitely have done with refurbishing, though it was clean.

Room Tip: Our room was nothing like as shown in brochure. Hotel did have nice gardens.

On the lake which is fantastic and beautiful. The hotel was very good, again nice setting and our room was above the pool at the side which was not noisy. You could hear the outdoor act singing and playing his organ nicely until 11.00pm. The food was basic but good value. We tried to get internet connection via the wifi (at 4 euros a day) but it would not work on our Tablet so we got our money back. We travelled with Inghams and you cannot fault them. Our tour guide was Chris who could not have been more helpful. Nice excursions organised by them included a day trip to Venice and wine tour near Riva at the top of the lake. Unfortunately we had booked for the opera in Verona to see Aida and it was the one day/night that it poured down plus thunder and lightning. It took them two hours before they decided to cancel so the only consolation was that we get our money back eventually. This has not happened in 30 years. Ferries across the Lake were expensive so beware.

Room Tip: Rooms above the pool seemed quieter

My wife and I stayed at LE PALME for a fortnight in May and it was terrific!
THE DOWN SIDE? -It was not a picture postcard type of place and was unimposing to see
THE UPSIDE? the staff were very friendly and welcoming - knew our room numbers within 24 hours. as soon as they saw us coming to the desk they had our key out for us. The hotel was very clean and our room was comfortable and had everything that was stated to be there (must admit, we never used the t.v. so can't say about that). our veranda looked out over the mountains and lake.
The food was terrific and plenty (I put on nearly a stone while we were there!). BUT please don't go to a foreign country and expect English style cooking or you'd be disappointed
We would rate this, for a 3 star hotel, excellent

the hotel is situated on a main road on a steep hill. the hotel caters mainly for germans as the brits were treated as second class the food is very poor, the same every day, no variety. the air conditioning does not come on until july. the drinks and snacks are expensive. the hotel its self is comfortable and cleanand the grounds are very good. the swiming pools are too deep for non swimmers.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the front of the hotel so as you can sit on your balcony and watch the entertainme...

This hotel has a central location, about 5-10 minute walk from lake and town centre.
Our room had a large balcony with lovely mountain and lake views, and it caught the sun
all afternoon. The bar was quite good with friendly staff and quite reasonable prices.

Now for the down-side. The hotel badly needs revamping. The corridors are shabby with
stained carpets. The rooms are very basic and small. There was no facility to hire a
fridge and the air-con is resolutely turned off until July, although our second week the
temperatures were into the 90s. The bathrom towels are like tea-towels! That said they
were at least changed daily. The worst part for us was the breakfast experience.
We booked breakfast only as we like to sample the local restaurants for dinner. Thank
goodness we did! The tables are piled in there with barely room to get in and out.
Most of the mainly German guests who I think the hotel favours, were on half-board.
If you were b&b you never knew where to sit as half-board guests had allocated tables.
We were frequently told to move (not that politely!) by waiting staff. The quality of the
food was 'adequate', but the breakfast juice appeared to have been watered down, and the
yoghurt was so runny it was like pouring milk! There was one lift serving what was quite
a large hotel so you often had to wait ages for it. One day, it broke down and we had to
walk up 3 floors!

In all, I would not go there again. That said, Garda is a beautiful resort, as is the whole
of the lake and the shortcomings of the hotel did not spoil our holiday. There are lots
of very nice restaurants and most of them are reasonably priced, even round the lake.
We did not find it expensive as compared to eating out in London.

Room Tip: Rooms facing mountains have great views and sun all afternnon.

We stayed here for a week in June 2013. Garda resort itself was beautiful with plenty to see and do. Excursions are recommended especially the lake tour as it is the best way to visit other towns around the lake plus it includes a boat trip from Limone to Riva Del Garda.
Another worthwhile trip was the excursion to Bolzano & Renon high up in the Dolomites, which included a cable car ride from Bolzano up the mountain where you then get on a tram and travel to Renon via stunning scenery.
Right, now the negative part. The hotel. This place caters for Germans primarily as we were told "they get a lot of business from the Germans" the Dining room is round and the food is laid out on the one side, then the Germans are all seated around the food 8-10 rows deep and the British are then forming the outside ring around the room where you have to maneuver a way to get to the food but be aware Germans do not Que !
Breakfast has a wide range of choice albeit the same every day and low quality ie: orange is squash not juice and the salad is German salad with sauerkraut and cereals are cheap quality.
Evening dinner is better and if you are lucky you may get a knife ! If you do require anything whilst dining only ask Alfonso as the rest are useless and very rude.
Bar staff were OK but slow. Rooms were very basic and in poor decor as stated previously desperately need updating. The beds were on the hard side probably because of the piece of wood under the mattress. Hotel was generally clean but not without cobwebs.
The absolutely worst thing about this hotel was the rudeness and UN-helpfulness of the reception staff. We will never use this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you must use this hotel get a room on the top floor away from busy kitchen noise and preferably a...
